I bought my first carabiner in 1992 as a college student and specifically for securing my keys to my belt loop. As luck would have it, I still use and own the same Carabiner. A while back, shop owner Peter says to me..
We're gonzo for multi tools, own piles of them, use them often. So we thought maybe there is an opportunity to integrate a multi-tool in the same footprint. We did a bunch of research, reviewed successful multi-tools, made a list, prioritized it, sketched, jetted, machined, tweaked and repeated.
We've come up with 3 variations and refined every feature in an effort to maximize usefulness, not just cram things in for marketing purposes. We are proud to present the Ti2 Para-Biner in hopes of securing project funding to cover the costs of material and manufacturing.
Grade 5 Titanium (6Al4V) constructed body. -- The shape is water-jetted using a high quality setting out of 5/16" (PB-7) or 1/4" (PB-5) thick sheets of grade 5 titanium. Then it is CNC milled, chamfered and drilled. Once the machining process is finished, the part is tumbled in a proprietary stonewash leaving a uniform matte grey finish.
- PB-9 measures 1.875" x 4.375" (48mm x 111mm) Weight 100 grams
- PB-7 measures 1.625" x 3.625" (41mm x 92mm) Weight 53 grams
- PB-5 measures 1.375" x 3" (35mm x 76mm) Weight 30 grams
Grade 5 Titanium billet gate (PB-5 & PB-7) -- A unique design water jetted from sheet stock offering an ambidextrous ergonomic thumb catch built for abuse.
PB-9 hooking gate (Grade 5 Ti construction) -- Since the project start we've received many urgent requests for a version with a gate that would hook and substantially increase load capability.
To keep with the all grade 5 construction we created a unique labyrinth/torsion spring. Unlike traditional springs, it will never rust or corrode even in the harshest environments.

Ti2 Para-Biner Para-System
The Ti2 Para-Biner was created for today's "Paracord Generation" (myself included). Paracord is readily available and great for just about everything. The Para-system includes:
Para-Pulley (PB-7 and PB-9) -- A first in market integrated carabiner pulley system specifically designed to be used with paracord. Use the Para-Pulley singularly for directional change and greatly reduce friction. Or, use 2+ Ti2 Para-Biners and create a "block and tackle" scenario for a 2 to 1 mechanical advantage.
The PB-7 Para-Pulley is made from Titanium (pin is stainless steel)
The PB-9 has 2 pulley options made from high strength bearing grade bronze 544 (pin is stainless steel)
- Single pulley allows for lines up to 1/2" diameter
- Twin pulley for use with paracord. Use (2) PB-9s with twin pulleys in a "Double Tackle" configuration for a 4 to 1 mechanical advantage.
Para - Cleat A simple knotless gear tie. Simple, feed through the 7/16 hex hole and one loop around the cleat and your tied.
Para - Cinch / Bottle Opener Use to quickly cinch a paracord in tension. Use to pop the top of your favorite beverage.

Why these sizes?
Here at our shop we use standard hex head fasteners everyday.
15/16" The PB-9 and PB-7 main opening we wanted something around 1", but no SAE fastener has a 1" hex (weird huh?) 15/16" fits a standard 5/8 bolt.
3/4" The PB-9 and PB-5 have a 3/4" hex opening which fits a standard 1/2" bolt.
5/8" The PB-9 Pulley Location (not so common)
9/16" PB-9, PB-7 and PB-5 -- Standard hex for 3/8" bolt (common) also standard for 1/4NPT pipe fittings.
1/2" PB-9 and PB-7 -- Standard hex for 5/16" bolt (not so common)
7/16" PB-9, PB-7 and PB-5 -- Standard hex for 1/4" bolt (extra common) also standard for 1/8NPT pipe fittings.
3/8" PB-9 and PB-7 Fits some 1/4" bolt (not common) and we needed an opening for the Para-Pulley©
5/16" PB-9, PB-7 and PB-5 -- Standard hex for #12 and #10 bolt. Also common radiator hose clamp hex size.
1/4" PB-9, PB-7 and PB-5 -- Standard hex for #8 and #6 bolt 1/4" is perfect for bit driving. The Parabiner gate works in tension to retain the bit a first in market design.
Screw Driver / Pry Bar / Box Opener -- Use to drive flat head screws, pry a staple out or sever the tape on your latest inbound shipment.

We load tested each version of the Ti2 Para-Biners for informative purposes.
The PB-9 failed at 3,905lbs!!! After a close inspection we found that the stainless steel pulley pin was the culprit. It started to bend causing an uneven loading on the pulley legs and failure. Production run will have a grade 5 ti pin. The hooked gate worked fantastic, there was very little stretching or movement prior failure. 3905lbs is a lot, about the weight of an average car.
PB-7 failed at 2,125lbs (just over 1 ton)
PB-5 failed at 1,350lbs
Risks and challenges
I have a background in manufacturing, machining and experience running production jobs. Having done the actual work of manufacturing, I know the kinds of problems that arise in the shop and how to deal with them quickly and efficiently.
If this project funds and in order to fulfill we will need to:
1. Source Material -- Titanium sourcing may be one of our biggest hurdles because of the large Titanium consumption by the airline industry. Fortunately we have secured 3 vendors to meet demand. We've experienced great communication with these vendors.
2. Machine the parts -- Lowest risk of the process, the machine shop we use has lots of capable machines and I run them myself personally. By doing so, we can insure high quality and the parts are finished in a timely manner. Having access to multiple machines helps because to reduce the machine time, speeding up fulfillment.
3. Finishing -- We have multiple finishing tumblers that can accommodate the ceramic tumbling needed
4. Fulfillment -- We do our fulfillment in house to offer direct communication with our backers. Our experience on our last projects have helped us develop fulfillment systems we can depend on.
