My good friend Jesper and I had considered the idea of a joint project for quite some time. In March we decided to do a true design collaboration and HALO was born. HALO represents an evolution of design, communication, CAD work, and prototyping... A true Collaboration where each designer is fully represented and no compromises were made. Denmark and Hawaii are literally 12 timezone hours apart. HALO is a product of design sessions occurring every 12 hours. One designer was fresh with morning while the other was seasoned with daily "maker" activities. This "design evolution" result is what you see here.
HALO, an acronym for High Altitude Low Opening, is a technique used by special force paratroopers across the world. It is a well planned and coordinated "feat" that parallels and embodies the design of our EDC carabiner... HALO
Tumbled Titanium -- We've selected Grade 5 Alloy (6Al4V) for both the frame and gate for the titanium versions because of its incredible strength characteristics. Grade 5 has double the strength of steel with a UTS (ultimate tensile strength) of 138,000psi and at half the weight.
FallOut Titanium HALO
FallOut Titanium HALO, both frame and gate are made from grade 5 titanium that is media blasted, tumbled and twice anodized blue/bronze.
Stainless Steel HALO
Stainless Steel (Marine Steel) 17-4 is the strongest / hardest of the line up. The 17-4 HALO variant is Heat treated H900 yielding an ultimate tensile strength of 200,000 PSI and 45+ Rockwell hardness. This is a great choice for heavy prying, scraping, chiseling and all around abuse! The gate is grade 5 titanium and anodized gold.
Our Copper HALO is made from high strength alloy 145 (Tellurium Copper). After tumbling, the frames are given a sulphur wash forced patina for a stable vintage look. The gate is grade 5 titanium and anodized blue.
Bronze Tumbled HALO
The bronze HALO frames are made from alloy 614 which are hand sanded and tumbled. Termed "high strength" this alloy touts an 82,500psi ultimate tensile strength. The gate is grade 5 titanium and anodized Gold.
Acid Wash Bronze HALO
Same as our bronze tumbled version with the added process of media blasting, acid washing and tumbling to give a unique distressed look. The gates are titanium and anodized to match.
Zirconium HALO -- Coolest Metal Ever? Its rare and expensive and not for everyone, but the finish is unlike anything. When heat treated, a dark grey / black oxide layer forms at the surface that is very hard. These offer excellent wear resistance. The gates are made from grade 5 titanium and anodized blue. UTS is 55,000psi (about the same as steel)
The design is a result of a multitude of ergonomic tweaks. Jimping is strategically placed for the various utilities within the design.
Box Opener / Tape Cutter / Chisel / Prybar / Scraper
The HALO's stylish shape coupled with a "hollow milled" sculpted pry bar offers excellent strength for chiseling, prying and scraping.
The large key ring slot allows key rings to slide out of the way while used in different configurations and accommodates split rings, para-cord and lanyards.
The gate is an ambidextrous design allowing positive action right or left handed. Made from grade 5 titanium, it will last a lifetime.
Drive 1/4 hex bits with HALO. Also, doubles as a lanyard tie off.
All good EDC most have the means to open your cold beverage after a long day. We've designed the HALO to accomplish this by designing the cap lifter right into the gate opening. The design allows the cap to be "popped" without deformation.

HALO has been scrutinized for design and utility. Our frames are cut using a waterjet and CNC machined with precise detail. Each HALO is tumbled for 24 hours leaving a "stonewash" matte/smooth finish.

Risks and challenges
I have a background in design, machining and experience managing production jobs. I know the kinds of problems that arise in the shop and how to deal with them quickly and efficiently.
If this project funds and in order to fulfill we will need to:
1. Source Material -- Multiple vendors and quotes are lined up.
2. Machine the parts -- Lowest risk of the process, our machines are optimized for parts like this insuring quick production and high quality parts.
3. Finishing -- We have multiple finishing tumblers that can accommodate the tumbling needs.
4. Fulfillment -- We do our fulfillment in house to offer direct communication with our backers. Our experience on our last projects have helped us develop accurate fulfillment protocol.
