Initial Goal Content Revision!
As explained in our most recent update, the funding we received from FUZE Entertainment now allows us to create the full story of "The KalKanon Incident"! You can read about our partnership with FUZE Entertainment here!
Thanks to the investment from FUZE Entertainment, we have now secured the budget to create our original vision for this prologue game, which means we will be able to create KalKanon in its entirety. This means that backers will now be able to explore and uncover the mysteries of KalKanon that are hidden in each area and episode that we originally planned for this campaign. We have updated our map of KalKanon as a result!
With this new development, it is necessary to explain exactly what will change in regards to game content if we clear our initial goal of $800,000. We updated our Stretch Goal graphic so that users can see the changes at a glance!
We are hoping to add these three previously unannounced gameplay contents to the game! These were always planned as extra content for “The KalKanon Incident”, and the support we have received from FUZE Entertainment allows us to focus on extra content for the remainder of the campaign!
A mode for all the action gamers out there looking for a challenge! This dungeon will be much longer and more dangerous than any of the dungeons in the rest of the game! We will include new enemies and new traps for this dungeon, and plan to design the Challenge Dungeon so only the most practiced players will be able to reach the end! What could be awaiting them at the end of the dungeon!?
Tyger Playable Character
Tyger will be added as a playable character in the game! Not as agile or dexterous as Beck, Tyger does have a wealth of knowledge regarding ancient languages and technology, along with his proficiency at piloting various vehicles and machinery. Playing as Tyger will allow players to explore KalKanon from a new perspective that is different from Beck’s own. His knowledge of ancient languages and technology may even allow him to access previously inaccessible areas of KalKanon!
Call & Gofer Village Reconstruction
This is a mode that will unlock upon completing the game. There is very little chance that the village on KalKanon will survive this entire incident intact, and Call won’t let a business chance like that pass by! Together with Gofer, she will work with the villagers to reconstruct the village in this special light-hearted post-game event/gameplay.
There is not much time left in the campaign, but we very much hope that our supporters will come out and pledge their support to help us make RED ASH an even better experience.
UPDATE (July 30, 2015): WE'RE FUNDED! But how?! Thanks to the support of FUZE Entertainment, Red Ash will be developed in full for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One! Now your money will go purely towards extra content -- how cool is that? Read the update for more information!
UPDATE (July 23, 2015): STRETCH GOAL UPDATE! PlayStation 4 has been officially confirmed as the first console port! Help us reach our goal and more consoles could be next!
UPDATE (July 17, 2015): TIER UPDATE! Now, when you pledge $79 or more, you will receive the main story of RED ASH ("The New Order Conspiracy", estimated at 12 hours) for free! This will be a digital copy on PC or console, and you will receive it in addition to your copy of "The KalKanon Incident".
RED ASH is an opportunity to not only fulfill Keiji Inafune's desire to create a game that pays homage to Japanese animation, but also his vision of "immersing players in a freely explorable anime world." The RED ASH team is spearheaded by Art Director Kazushi Ito and Director Masahiro Yasuma, key members of the original team that pioneered open world game design with Mega Man Legends. With the RED ASH project, they aim to build an action adventure experience with a new level of freedom, complete with the polish expected from such veteran creators.
Sharp-eyed readers may notice that this project has inherited some of the DNA from our Mighty No. 9 project--specifically, the shared character names Beck and Call. We feel that this is an important part of the project: we're taking this opportunity to create an altogether different type of game together with the support of fans and backers. We want to continue embracing this new style of game design and production, challenges and risks included. With RED ASH, we hope to channel your passion for gaming into our creative process, and fulfill both our own dreams and the dreams of our fans around the world!

Red Ash -Magicicada-
RED ASH is a very special project: an unprecedented collaboration between anime and gaming companies, working together to create their own unique content based on the same property and characters. These projects are based in separate, yet parallel worlds, giving creators on both sides full freedom to create whatever story or world they want.
The game project will be lead by veteran game creator Keiji Inafune and comcept, while the anime project will boast the distinct style of the critically-acclaimed Studio 4℃. Both teams will shape their own independent works with full creative freedom.
RED ASH is a very different project from a retro action game like Mighty No. 9, in terms of both scale and concept. The primary goal with RED ASH is to tell a story on a grand scale; all of the primary concepts are clearly visualized in the minds of the creative team, from the overall plot to historical background. Even the final ending scene is planned out! However, the reality is that we cannot fulfill a vision of such epic proportions with funds collected through Kickstarter.
That's why for this Kickstarter project, we've decided to start with a prologue chapter we call "The KalKanon Incident." This story has always been planned as a key jumping-on point for the universe, and we hope to use this small, but dense taste of the RED ASH universe as a foundation on which to build future content. Whether it's through additional funding, revenue from "The KalKanon Incident" sales, or teaming up with a publisher, this is a story we are determined to tell, and we want all of our backers to be on the ground floor for the creation of this new game universe. We have a vision of a story and universe that we feel deserves to be told, and we need your support to make it a reality!
"The KalKanon Incident" is planned for a playtime of 8 hours across 4 chapters. The number of chapters may change depending on the status of the stretch goals reached.
On a planet not unlike Earth...
As a result of the Robot World War, humanity is driven to the brink of extinction. Humanity has managed to persevere and survive, battling now feral robotic weapons at every turn in a world of nothing but wasteland and ruins...
With the advent of Lost Technology, precious legacies of a forgotten era, they have managed to rebuild their society. A wealthy class has emerged, helping to expand these newly formed cities and settlements and living in opulence as a result.
However, their livelihoods are supported by the brave fools who hunt the dangerous ruins and wastelands for Lost Technology. These people are known simply as Delvers.
Gecko Company, one of the organizations central to Great Slope, has prepared a massive electromagnetic cannon christened "the Peacemaker" to combat this catastrophe. They announced their plan to destroy the massive Mobile Citadel before it reaches the settlement. Great Slope quickly switches from a city enveloped in panic, to one ready to sit back and enjoy the fireworks of the special, once-in-a-lifetime Burning Cannon Festival.
"I think we should grab the treasure for ourselves, before those rich blowhards blow the whole dang place sky-high!"
"We have about 14 hours left until KalKanon is within firing range of the Peacemaker."
"Hop on over there, grab anything you can get your grubby little hands on, and hurry on back! Simple, huh?"

RED ASH is a 3D action adventure game with third person shooter elements. One of the main goals behind the project is to inject more modern design elements into the classic action adventure RPG formula.
The main character, Beck, is tasked with infiltrating the interior of the Mobile Citadel KalKanon, exploring it's village, castle, and hidden dungeons. His goal is to stop KalKanon before the Peacemakers make piecemeal of the whole thing!
- How are Beck and crew going to stop KalKanon? Is it even possible?
- What is the "Legendary Legacy" that is rumored to be hidden there? Can Beck get his hands on it, if it truly exists?
- Who exactly is this so-called witch that lurks in KalKanon?
That being said, we also want to include a myriad of elements to set this game apart from your typical RPG--specifically, bargaining between partners, interaction with NPCs, an almost mischievous sense of freedom, and dungeons built with elements of horror.
Of course, a key part of the game will be delving into dungeons to earn money in order to have Call develop parts and upgrade Beck's abilities (in true action RPG fashion).
We have more plans and concepts we would like to implement, and we've integrated those ideas into our stretch goals. This includes making Tyger a playable character, special challenge dungeons, a village reconstruction system and more! The more stretch goals we clear, the closer we can take this game towards its original concept!
Beck: Male, 16 years old
A young boy who teams up with his partner Tyger, aiming to hit it big as Delvers. He is very dexterous and excels in using his fleet-footedness in battle, and adept at infiltration into the most heavily guarded areas.
His left arm can be interchanged with different types of tools and weapons, allowing him to adapt to any situation or terrain.
Tyger: Male, 30 somethin' years old
Call: Female, 17 years old
A young girl who runs a rinky-dink shop called Bones Company inside Great Slope.
She's run the place on her own since her parents disappeared on her at the age of 10. She's poured all of her time and energy into protecting and improving the shop they left behind, making sure everything is in order just in case they ever come home... Also, she loves money. Like REALLY loves money.
This mechanic specializes in buying lost technology excavated by Delvers and breaking it down into scrap for her own custom weapon designs.
An autonomous A.I.-powered robot created by Call, and official employee of the Bones Company. Seems like it receives a salary, but no one knows the details.
Its face is actually a digital monitor capable of displaying a wide range of expressions or different types of information.

For this project, we are looking to use a special backer exclusive forum, surveys, and updates to keep our backers informed regarding the development progress, and to gain feedback from our community. We already have experience in this area, and we believe we can create an even better communication flow this time around.
For example, we plan to send out surveys to our backers after the campaign has finished. We want to hear your opinions on everything--art style, design ideas, desired play-time, you name it! We will take your feedback and use it to make an even better game!
Many rewards will have multiple items included, so please use the Reward Chart at the end of this section as a reference. The following images are artistic renditions of the planned rewards, and are not representative of the final products. If you have any cool ideas, feel free to send them in!

Risks and challenges
Any endeavor of this scale is going to entail all kinds of risks at all kinds of levels. The most obvious risks are development delays and increased costs. This project will face these risks as it moves forward, and has already overcome many up to this stage of pre-production.
However, this project is also led by Keiji Inafune, who has a track record of releasing over 30 action games, including simultaneous AAA title development and releases. His first Kickstarter project, Mighty No. 9, also met with success and is just one step away from release. The progress and state of Mighty No. 9 can be seen from our alpha and beta footage, articles and tweets by users, and can be experienced in playable form at events around the world. That being said, there were issues such as delaying the release in order to add more to the original vision. We are utilizing our experience from the Mighty No. 9 Kickstarter to set realistic stretch goals and keep a tight control over the project.
If you become a backer, you will be able to experience the challenges together with us, and your opinions and feedback will be a crucial part to guiding the project to its success. It is important to note that we have a very solid vision for what sort of game we want to create with RED ASH; however, this is going to be a community effort, and as such there will sometimes be split opinions. We want to make sure that even if a group is disappointed with the result of any polls or decisions over the duration of the project, that we will at least communicate our reasoning to everyone involved as clearly as possible.
As with anything in life, the creative process is at its core a learning process. We believe that over the duration of this project, both the team at comcept and the fans supporting us will be able to learn a great many things together.
