Communi-Tuesday V: THE FINAL COUNTDOWN (dee-doo-doo-dooo!)

UNBELIEVABLE!!!

You have turned these final few hours of our Kickstarter campaign into this just incredible, insane, runaway bullet-train (it rhymes, even!), out-of-control in the best way possible, powered on pure joy and hope, with vision and purpose spilling over the sides, and everyone cheering as it roars past!

Each time we turn around, we’re smashing through another stretch goal (PS4 & XBOX VERSIONS GET!! VITA & 3DS VERSIONS GET!! ;D NEW STRETCH GOALS, DETAILS BELOW!), zooming past another milestone (100,000 comments plus! 3rd most-funded Kickstarter video game in history!), or -- and this has always been the case from the very start of our campaign -- running smack-dab into more amazing fan art, songs, videos, and you-name-its! 

(Above) Natsume-san at Inti Creates was so moved by the huge reaction to our community vote that he worked up this final call to vote for Call in his own free time! The vote is open to everyone, but there’s only a few hours left to participate, so hurry and get in if you haven’t already! 

So yes, we know last week was supposed to be our final Communi-Tuesday, and yes, we are busy tallying your opinions for our Call design community vote / prepping for our final livestream where we’ll announce the results (taking place in the last few hours of our campaign, 3 - 6pm PDT, today, right here! Check here for the time in your local time zone), but just the same, we wanted to whip up this extra final-final Communi-Tuesday.

And we wanted to start it with a special tribute from all of us (courtesy of the wiz-kids at 2 Player Productions, along with a special new arrangement from our main theme composer Matsumae-san) -- to all of you, our AMAZING becker backer community, thanking you for your support:

Our final new stretch goals, ever! (...Well, maybe! :)

  • $3,800,000: OPTIONAL RETRO-STYLE CHIPTUNE SOUNDTRACK + FX! You’ve seen the names of the legendary musicians attached to this project: Manami Matsumae, Takeshi Tateishi, Ippo Yamada... It’s a veritable who’s who of veteran game composers. So we thought, why not tap into that retro vibe and cook up an optional chiptune version of the entire Mighty No. 9 game soundtrack, including classic sound effects? That’s right – we’ll remix the entire soundtrack, retro 8-bit-style, and the game’s sound effects, for you to listen to in-game as you play, as an option you can toggle on or off in the settings menu!
  • $4,000,000: ONLINE BATTLE RACE MODE!! The ultimate online competition! You and a friend compete online, racing to the end of slightly customized versions of single-player stages. You can see your rival as a "ghost" image in your game, but you can't affect each other...save for the enemies you defeat being sent over to impede your opponent’s progress! It's an all new twist on versus mode play that will give Mighty No. 9 life well beyond the single-player campaign!

  • Expect a message or email with your Mighty No. and password for our community forums in the next few weeks (community forums will be hosted at MightyNo9.com, and are expected to go up in late October or early November of this year).
  • Re: the USB "cart" add-ons: these are currently planned as 2GB in size to fit the game. However, we won't be manufacturing these until the game is released in 2015, so if it's cost effective to do so, we'll increase the size.
  • For the physical disc add-on version of the game: The disc will be a DVD, and, we can announce, will ship in a full, proper, standard DVD case!

      None of the designs appear to be battle-ready, except if they're fighting with a stack of forms and the coffee machine. It's a cute and cool but there's nothing in those designs that indicate any offensive role.

      Just imagine these action-oriented Roll clones popping with her bike or jetpack to help Beck cross unaccessible areas...or even kicking the hell out of Beck's butt with her "coil feet" to launch him in the air for long range jumps! Much cooler for such active-looking characters than Call's role. ^^

      This way Call-E can fullfil her destiny of making Call unique and the clones can take the more constant quick support role! ^^

      I was thinking...since Roll-F and H look more "action-oriented" they also would fit best at support character sidekick (AKA Rush spot) than Call, always popping in the fray to help Beck, having a more active support role than Call herself at single player mode.

      IMO the main point of Call-E is exactly the fact that, regardless ppl say she looks like a call center girl, flight attendant or w/e else ppl want to call her, she's actually unique. She actually resembles no one, leaving her full of potential to, over time, become fully linked to MN9 w/o any pending references.

      I don't get a Roll vibe from H at all. As I've said before, she looks to be Astroboy-inspired. I think E is a bit stereotypical, and F is much closer to Roll than any of the others. So for me, it's a no-brainer. I've been going with H from the start because she's both cute and badass, and looks like she'd be good for both information AND butt-kicking, whereas E and F look built for one or the other...

      H 4 lyfe.

      @Tops: Maybe not. F and H got votes because they're too close to Roll, but all others (Call-E included) were voted by those claiming for new characters instead of clones!

      Call-E was only 5% behind Roll-F so it's very possible that she can revert it once the refined versions are added! I'm really hoping Call-E gets the spot so they can add Roll-F as support character.

      Anyway, Call-E for live! /o/ In the end Call will beat these Roll clones! (`_´)ゞ

      @Aetherealbunny: That works too! ^^ would love to see all Calls (including ones left ou of poll) actually used ingame.

      But my comment wasn't to be a racial pun...i apologize if sounded like this. I actually treat "white" from Dr White as a speech pun, having matching pronounce of last sound, like matching Wh"ite" and L"ight" just like Be"ck" matches Ro"ck" and Ca"ll" matches Ro"ll". IMO White could easily be replaced by Night, Knight, Dynamite, w/e. ^^

      The name and the character doesn't always have to involve some relationship. But, anyway, you're right. It would end bringing issues to them and that's the last thing i would want. ^^ My visual and personality opinions about White stays tho regardless of skin color! ^^

      About Dr. White...who think he should be black? For some reason when i think about a crazy doctor making a bunch of deadly robots it always come in mind a mix of Samuel L Jackson's Nick Fury and Morgan Freeman! ^^ Those docs full of weird crazes, always busy running from a side to anuther while munches the tip of a screwdriver and moaning about algotythms.

      How do you guys imagine White to be? Please just don't say "a fat Santa clone" ^^:: From those arts at main page (this one: https://s3.amazonaws.com/ksr/assets/000/860/807/54241c3194cfedbe42f716db52f2f708_large.jpg ) i'd certainly pick the "Doc-D" (4th one).

      @ Steven: Indeed! As a Megaman fan i had the very same first glance as 99% of the ppl here..."It's megaman re-skinned" But over time i already was able to notice that the differences proposed actually may change the game core, allowing it to be unique in its own way.

      After seeing that i was able to embrace the idea that, while i love MM, all its characters and lore, for now all i hope is that the only resemblance this game has from megaman being the game "feel".

      A good way to see this is to actually place MM and Beck side by side. The only real resemblance you will find when not using all those nostalgic memories is the helm shape. All the rest is different, going from body, powers and even facial expression. With such strong expressions, if Beck were to appear at MM he would certainly be something like "Mightyman", a boss, and not another version of MM, just like White info makes he actually sounding more like Willy than Light. ^^

      This is exactly whay makes me so excited about this game...it can feel the same as MM but at same time be completely different! ^^

      @Bruno: I agree with you 100% but we all have to remember what brought us here...the blue bomber ;) Mighty no 9 may not "be mega man" but Inafune and staff (mostly comprised of the original mega man teams) is giving to us what Capcom wouldn't...and that is the spiritual successor to mega man :) I mean the 1st time you saw this project that you saw beck that you saw the trailer, if your brain didn't scream MEGA MAN then you're either A: not a seasoned vet or B: lying about it lol don't take that personal there I can tell you know your stuff just as much as me or any other veteran of the series :) and that's what this is about...the title might not say "mega man" but it's written on the wall and highlighted so that we can all see it and appreciate it for what it really is supposed to be. Now what Inafune and the team at Comcept are doing is completely revamping and reinventing the "genre" as we're calling it now for obvious reasons. Mega Man was Inafune's baby and it must make him furious to see what capcom has done with the series and to it's core base of fans and that's why he did this kickstarter and got us all involved...we get a fresh start :) we get the game we've been asking for just with a new name and character...just as mega man and mega man x were their own beasts so is beck. We have to keep the core values and spirit and the look and feel and everything that these guys did to make mega man great alive in this game otherwise we just end up with something that doesn't resemble the "genre" at all and that's not what any of us wants and Inafune knows that otherwise he wouldn't have comprised together the team that he has and started work on the game that we've all been asking for in the 1st place. There is room for a ton of new innovations here and that's already obvious even from day one of the kickstarter....take everything that was good and add onto it...mega man+mega man x+new character+the original team+new blood+new innovation+us=perfection :D

      @Actar: It's simple to see:

      1- Beck "resembles" megaman X a bit...but from original megaman all it has is the sihouette. Roll-F, instead, is a flat Roll clone.

      2- Call wasn't made by White so it CAN'T match Beck. Beck was made by a "warrobot freak" doctor while Call was made as an assistant robot. Roll-F, however, matches Beck perfectly...like if they were borthers, making no sense at all.

      3- Call is an assistant robot, not a fighting one. she CAN kick butts but she wasn't meant to. The core role between they both it different...it's like comparing David (AI movie) with Robocop...this comparison also is valid on why Call, even tho doesn't have "a heart", visually looks way more human than Beck.
      4- Ppl may think she looks like an flight attendand, but ignoring the fact their uniform is based on army one. So not a problem at all. Also, it could simply be a "Barbie" feitish of White. Always keep in mind the "assistant robot"...IMHO i certainly would want an assistant that looked way more of a Barbie than those action figures full of pointy joints and all. For a potentially old, male scientist in a lab filled with war robots i bet the last thing he would want was an "Optimus Prime"-looking assistant. =P
      5- IMO the most important point...this is not Megaman. Even tho i'm a fan of megaman since its very first game i am aware the resemblances should be minimal. I want this game to be unique in its own way, not being a "megaman clone" at all. So yep, i'll be always picking the concepts i love the most, but at same ime avoiding any clone possibilities like blondes with ponytails or pigtails in red, red dogs robots, blue bird robots, red armored dudes with laser swords, ninja-like rebels that use shades and like whispering when they enter, crazy scientists looking, etc.

      IMO this game can be unique...but since they had the right of choosing it to us then, at same time, it became our duty to prevent it from becoming a megaman clone.

      IMO Roll-F doesn't need to be discarded. She can be the support character just like Rush and Beat used to do for Megaman. she just shouldn't be Call. As a great fan of Megaman, Inafune and, by now, Mighty No.9 too, i don't wanna see it turned into a clone mass. I wanna see MN9 becoming a success by its own means! ^^

      Soooooo Call-E for life! /o/

      Also, I know voting is over, but I just wanted to say that my favorite Call design is Call A, but unfortunately it doesn't seem to be that many others' favorite.

      Though when I pointed out this to a friend, he observed that Call A "looks like a protagonist".

      ...maaaaaybe? Something starring a character with that design? Might be interesting. I mean, you already have eight other character designs right here waiting to be used for something...

      I've never backed up a Kickstarter Project, although there have been a number of great projects I almost did. This one though, just struck a cord in me. Made me remember how awesome Megaman was. The music in the Megaman series was very memorable and I am happy to see how important music was to you guys at Comcept too. I just wanted to say congratulations and thank you for making both your and our dreams come true!

      I knew that there were a lot of megaman fans, but I would have never guessed in 4 million years that just out of fans pockets and some special prizes of a game that doesn't even exist yet, in a month we would raise 4 million dollars. I'd have backed up Mario, Sonic, and Zelda just the same if their creators backed out of Nintendo and Sega.

      I think it speaks for itself just how much fans want the blue bombers legacy to continue in the right direction. Legends never die.

      This is the first time I have ever funded for a kickstarter project and and I am absolutely thrilled that Mighty No. 9 managed to blast through each and every stretch goal that has been placed in front of it.       (Now if only we could persuade a certain company to rescue a stranded hero on a not so distant moon... )

      And as a side note, the Aero/Pink call design should definitely be utilized in some way. That was one of the best if not the best character designs you spoiled at the start of this campaign. Perhaps she could be the support character, or possibly as Aetherealbunny keeps on suggesting, becoming one of the doctors. I just want some sort of callback to her (yes, that pun was intended xD)

      You guys, I really like we have made history here!!! This past month has certainly been a memorable ride but.....WE DID IT!!! >XD
      Originally set out aiming for a small scale project budget and since then quadrupled our intended mark. I mean come on, $4 MILLION!!!!!
      Whatcha gotta say about THAT capcom!!!?!?
      However we americans have a saying: "It aint over till the fat lady sings" and its true because now all thats really left is the grand development of future history, i can hardly wait for 2 years to pass.
      Like most out here, i too have high hopes and confidence for the success of this game after its release. I want to see EVERY respected game critic give this game a 10 out of 10 rating; I want this game to do what its predecessor (mega man) has done and go down in history as a game that "Changed gaming history"...
      and now......till then......we play the waiting game..

      Hmm I used to not like the F design cause I used to think it looked so much like Roll, but then I realized that G is far more like Roll than F. The F design reminds me more of Ciel than Roll, and you can tell it is Inti Creates inspired.

      @Alistair - heck, that design was why I wanted playable Call in the first place... So I felt an ironic twist of fate on that one update. I don't feel up to the playable Call parts as much, especially now without the design I picked being in the final vote ;u;

      Still hoping for Pink/Aero Call design to be used as maybe one of the doctors or something like that XD

      I've asked this before, but can someone explain to me how E is a good design for Call?

      The expressions included in that picture do not mean that the other characters will be devoid of expression. Also, the outfit makes her look more at home in an office or something instead of kicking ass and taking names.

      Not to mention, if people don't like F because she looks like Roll, why even like Beck because he looks like Megaman? F's design even compliments Beck's so well. E doesn't make sense to me at all.

      We did it! I had my doubts that we weren't going to reach the later stretch goals but the money just kept piling up. This has been a truly awesome experience, I look forward to more updates and the creation of this game! (`_´)ゞ
