CALL OUT THE VOTE

It’s going to be a tough Call -- and yes, there will be lots more puns before this is over -- but right now, it’s all up to you backers and fans to answer the Call:

Check out these nine designs for our future Mighty No. 9 heroine, Call, and then hit the link at the bottom of this page to vote for your favorite!

The top three most popular designs based on this open-to-the-public vote between now and the end of our Kickstarter campaign will be announced as part of our livestream around 5:30pm PST on Tuesday, Oct. 1 -- right at the end of our Kickstarter! Those three designs will be colored and refined for another round of backer-only voting on our (by then) new Mighty No. 9 official forums, due to go up sometime in late October or early November!

A couple of character notes we have set for Call, just to keep in mind as you weigh her various design options:

  • Call is a female robot originally created by Dr. White’s friend, Dr. Sanda, to help assist him with his research; she somehow avoided being infected by the virus causing all the other robots to go berserk and has pledged to help Beck.
  • Call was not imbued with the human characteristics that make Beck unique, so she’s more of a pure robot -- as you might imagine, this contrast can lead to some interesting differences and misunderstandings whenever they interact!

Note: Our survey system limits everyone to one vote per person, and we will be checking IP logs to root out any attempts at multiple votes (so don’t even try and vote twice or you’ll risk your vote not counting at all!). Also, we aren’t going to say whose design is whose (some of you can guess by now, we’re sure!), but we have designs here from Yuuji Natsume (Inti Creates), Hirokatsu Maeda (Inti Creates), Yoshitaka Hatakeyama (Inti Creates), Yuuta Watanabe (Inti Creates), Makoto Yabe / KOU (Freelance), Kimo Kimo (Comcept), Shinsuke Komaki (Comcept), Hideki Ishikawa (Freelance), and Keiji Inafune (Comcept)!

Now, happy voting! (Again, you'll find the link to the actual survey down below!)

Got your favorite all picked out? Great -- now hit this link and let us know your choice!

And hey, maybe share your choice on Facebook or Twitter, or tell a friend about the vote?

Here's this update url, written out for sharing:

We want all the fan opinion we can get for this first phase of the contest, so let’s let everyone know!

Then we hope to see you all back on Tuesday, Oct. 1, around 5:30pm PST to see the results as part of our Kickstarter finale livestream!

Thanks for your vote! Have a great weekend, and we'll see you again soon! (`_´)ゞ

I see people kept going with what comes down to the most basic/common/unimaginative designs. B and C were definitely the most interesting one's here and went along best with what they said was intended for the character.

    7. Missing_small

      Creator Treleus on November 6

      C. She's different enough from the typical Roll style we're familiar with, so it doesn't feel like a rehash, and she's looks like a formidable opponent as well as a valuable ally in combat situations.

      And she has a unicorn.

E has a ton of class in that uniform, which means any "less human" characteristics will contrast nicely. F looks very generic "spunky girl" with a little too much 90s attitude, and H is irritatingly wholesome as well as being Penny from Inspector Gadget. Of the 3, E makes for the best cosplay.

    9. Missing_small

Creator Luis Francisco N V de Vasconcelos on October 17, 2013

Since the creator is trying to make a diferent main character - different megaman - Call has to be different too - Roll.

      Right?

Went for E first round but now I'll vote F as she suits better the description of "less human". H is fine but it's a little too cute for my taste.

Haha, some people seem to know everything about a game that has hardly begun development. We don't know the story, all the characters, mechanics, level designs, color palette. There are so many things that aren't set or revealed yet. The vision is only in your mind, we have to wait for Inafune and his team to show us before we can say that a character doesn't fit the game or the description of Call. I suggest saying, I want call to be strong and heroic, she shouldn't be a simple cleaning robot. I don't think it's fair to state that Call is this or Call isn't that, since we still don't know her story or exactly what the development team has in mind for her. For all you know she may be a spy for evil. I doubt it, but I'm just saying.

Here a comment i did at last activity. I know it's only my opinion but it does may work for you as explanation regarding some of Call-E concepts and why she should/will beat the Roll clones at finals! ^^

      http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/mightyno9/mighty-no-9/posts/614969…

But hopefully they won't discard these concepts, letting them be used ingame somehow. You see...this game isn't even close to be a flat MM-like game...the rewards alone point this way. If you see the 2.5k reward, there's 36 backers having their face ingame...it's ALOT of stuff even if you think they will just use them as zone figurants or at outdoors and other decorative stuff.

They do can easily find a place to not other Calls instead of simply phasing them out. Maybe at challenges, maybe at regular stages...and we will have 1.5yrs to bother them about this! /o/

If the backers ask for them to be ingame they shall be there! /o/ And meanwhile Call-E will be getting the Call spot and putting an end to the "clone nostalgia" feeling before it gets out of control! =P

Creator Mefuki on October 3, 2013

I'm disappointed that the 3 least creative (though not necessarily bad) won the top slots.

No clever robot body interfaces from B, no controller units and transformation mods from C or even the extending arms from G.

It's like people read the design notes as:

*Call is a female robot originally created by Dr. White’s friend, Dr. Sanda, to help remind him how to design better human looking robots.

*Call was imbued with more human characteristics than Beck, so she’s less of a pure robot.

I mean, I'm not saying they're bad designs but they just don't fit the design specs. And frankly I'm mainly disappointed that the artists who did what was asked of them (in the case of B especially, who followed the design notes to the letter IMO) aren't going to get any credit for their unique designs. Meanwhile, we went with designs that, if I didn't know better, I'd think were entirely human.

I really don't know who I'm going to go with now. I guess maybe H because she KINDA has a robot, Astro Boy vibe to her though, again, if it weren't for her knees, I'd think she wasn't a robot at all. Plus when she's put into the game, she may very well lose that "Astro Boy" touch she has when her art style changes to fit the game.

The other two aren't even close. E in particular looks like a flight attendant or someone who works at a call center not something that assists a professor in his research. And before people mention the "CALL" center, the design notes say she was not designed to work in such in an environment. It would be like if they wanted to design a salaryman-type character and instead of going with the design of the guy in the suit, they go with the 6 foot 5, 300 Lbs in a barbarian outfit design. It just doesn't fit specs that were given to us to start.

She's also not the least bit robotic. Not at all. Heck, the only thing about her that is even the slightest bit futuristic is her headset but that really isn't saying much.

      Anyway TL;DR:
      At this point, MAYBE H.
