Mighty Mighty Becker Backers!

Wow, do we have a big day in store for you today... Three big doozies, one after the other! (And that’s not even counting our Call community vote, coming in another update later today!)

To start things off, let’s get physical! (BTW, if you’re here for the podcast, just keep scrolling, you’ll get to it :)

That’s right! Due to overwhelming fan requests, we are happy to offer extra, physical copies (of the Steam PC, Mac, or Linux version) of Mighty No. 9 for an additional price!

These are called “add-ons” because they are items you can order individually, by “adding on” money to your existing Kickstarter pledge (these aren’t yet available on our PayPal page, but will be very soon!).

For our Kickstarter-based fans: Everyone at $20 and above already gets one digital download copy of whatever one version of Mighty No. 9 they would like—but if you want to add-on extra money for extra copies of the game, with this you can!

Here’s what we’re offering, along with prices for both (domestic and international):

  • An extra physical copy of Mighty No. 9 on disc (Steam version for PC, Mac, or Linux ONLY, your choice—you will choose via a survey later): Add $26 to your pledge ($31 for international backers)
(above) Please bear in mind the disc-art is a placeholder mockup and will change!
  • An extra physical copy of Mighty No. 9 on a special USB memory stick shaped like either an NES or Famicom cartridge (Steam version for PC, Mac, or Linux ONLY, your choice—you will choose both the platform, and whether you want the NES design or the Famicom design via a survey later): Add $36 to your pledge ($41 for international backers)

(above) These are renders FanGamer is working on of what these USB “carts” will roughly look like; please bear in mind the labels are placeholder mockups and will change, but you can get a sense of the scale by the size of the USB connector.

See anything you like? Here’s how to adjust your Kickstarter pledge to order it!

STEP 1. Everyone who has already pledged to the Kickstarter at any level will see a “Manage Your Pledge” button on the upper right of the Kickstarter page. Click this button, then adjust the amount of your pledge there, in green (see prices above, or check below for some common examples). You should not change your reward tier.

STEP 2. Next click “Continue to Next Step” and finally “Confirm.” Don’t worry that you haven’t told us which version of the game you want for your extra copies yet! After the campaign is over, you will get a survey confirming exactly which items you want added on, and which versions—if applicable—of these items you would like!

And that’s it! Not so hard, right? Well, just in case, let’s walk through the math of some common use cases, so you can make sure you have the idea. Again, you can use add-ons for any reward tier, in combination with as many add-ons as you like. These are just some random examples!

A few examples of add-on scenarios…

The prices again, in case you forgot:

  • An extra physical copy of Mighty No. 9 on disc: $26 in the U.S., or $31 international, each
  • An extra physical copy of Mighty No. 9 on a special USB memory stick shaped like either an NES or Famicom cartridge: $36 in the U.S., or $41 international, each

Ex.1 So, for example, let’s say you pledged at the $20 tier already, but you would like an extra physical copy of Mighty No. 9 on disc, for a total of two copies (one digital, one physical)—you would keep your reward tier at $20, and just add $26 (you live in the U.S.) to your pledge:
$20 + $26 = $46 total pledge

Ex. 2 Another example: If you pledged at the $40 tier already, and would like an extra physical copy of Mighty No. 9 on disc; you would keep your reward tier at $40, and just add $26 (you live in the U.S.) to your pledge:
$40 + $26 = $66 total pledge

Ex. 3 Another example: If you pledged at the $99 tier, and you wanted an extra physical copy of Mighty No. 9 on the special USB stick; you would keep your reward tier at $99, and just add $36 (you live in the U.S.) to your pledge:
$99 + $36 = $135 total pledge

Ex. 4 You can add more than one add-on as well! Let’s say already pledged for $250 (so you’re already getting a game download code), but you also want another copy of the game on disc, and two USB copies (one NES and one Famicom-style, both), for a grand total of four copies of Mighty No. 9! (God bless you!) Also, you live outside of the United States, so you’ll need to use the international prices. In this case, you would keep your reward tier at $250, and add $31, $41, and $41, all to your pledge:
$250 + $31 + $41 + $41 = $363 total pledge

If you’re still having trouble, your best bet for a fast answer might be to ask the kind folks in the comments section of the Kickstarter page to see if they might be willing to help out, or maybe they can check if your math is correct! We’ll be around as much as we can as well, but with the sheer volume of requests, we’re afraid your fellow Beckers are often a better resource for this kind of thing than we are!

Next up, a long-awaited stretch goal announcement:

$3,500,000: PlayStation Vita and 3DS versions!

That’s right! At this level, we can make digital versions of Mighty No. 9 for the two most popular handheld systems out there: the PlayStation Vita and Nintendo 3DS! (These will both be added to the list of available systems to choose from, so every backer who is set to receive a download version of Mighty No. 9 can choose either of these as the system for their game download, instead of a home console or PC version.)

We spent the last few weeks running the numbers and talking with various companies to make certain we could not only deliver great handheld versions of Mighty No. 9, but do it for a price that we could set with confidence. Luckily, we found a great potential partner in Abstraction Games -- the team that recently brought Hotline Miami to PS platforms. If we can hit our stretch goal, they are all set to dive in and handle porting Mighty No. 9 to these handhelds!

And finally -- thanks for your patience, but we’re here at the final Friday of our Kickstarter campaign, which means our final MightyCast! What? No, don’t be sad -- no time for that now, we got too much awesome pod to get castin’ here! Listen in for a breakdown of all the announcements this week (including those in this update below!), your Skype questions, and best of all, an in-depth interview with Mighty No. 9 game designer Tom Pon! This man is a legend to Mega Man fans, and hopefully will be soon to our Mighty No. 9 community as well -- listen in to find out why!

Sorry for asking a very stupid question that might have been asked but...if I add $6 more to my $20, would that allow me to have a physical copy. Honestly would rather have that. Just hard to get it for what system now. :(

    2. rhetoric on

Folks it says this is an "extra" copy so I assume you will still get the digital copy from your original pledge level and then ALSO this drm copy.

valth it says "($41 for international backers) "

      valthshade on

Hey, in regards to the extra physical copy of the game, if you ship internationally, does shipping cost count towards the pledge?

My case: pledged $75 (60+15) I understand i need only to pay 36 if I want the usb stick. Thats correct??

    4. metaphist on

For those of you concerned about the USB prices, the guys over at the River City Ransom Underground kickstarter stated that the high cost of those was the main reason why they weren't doing that themselves. So, the high price here seems to have some merit.

    5. Team F on

Well, I hope we get some more information wether we can get a DRM free disc version or not before the time runs out, if we do I am all in, if it is just Steam, I don't see any value over a self burned disc with a burned cover.
Really a little disappointing how so they didn't understand why people care for a physical version of the game, it is of course because they want to really own the game and not be limited by DRM. I kinda get the need of DRM for digital only games but it should not be combined with physical versions. That is why so many people were so upset about the original plans for the Xbox One and here offering a physical version of the game with only a Steam game on it is the same, useless for a collector.

Hello. The USB sounds pretty cool, but, is it a typical gift USB? I mean one of those shitty super slow USB sticks that look kind of pretty but suck really badly.

Can it be used for something else?
      Is it USB 3.0?

    7. Justin

@Jonathan - It says it twice in the article above:

"Steam version for PC, Mac, or Linux ONLY, your choice"

    8. Jonathan Perez on

Wait, so if i get a USB will it have a version that will allow me to play it on my PS3 or just on a PC? Anyone know? Need to know ASAP

    9. Charles Short on

Sooooo many comments o.o Any news on a non Steam Crippled physical version? If they're selling a DRM free digital version I don't see why we can't get the disc as a DRM free as well.

      Vincent Lee on

so... for the $250 + $30 shipping to Europe.
I added another $41 for the USB.
      Total: $321
Will I need to email the Mighty No.9 Kickstarter to let them know I want the USB? I think I'll do it just to be sure.

    11. Yoeri Goldewijk #TeamPrissy \[J]/

I'm wondering the same thing, Djidane. o.o I also currently have the $60 + $15, since I live in Europe. I do kind of want to add the CD.

    12. Djidane535 on

Hi guys ! I pledge for 60$, but I have to pay some shipping because I live outside the US. So I currently pay 75$. However, I want to add an extra disc copy. Do I have to add 31$ (75$ + 31$ = 106$) or do is it enough to add 31$ to the initial pledge ? (60$ + 31$ = 91$).

      I hope someone knows :p.

How big is the USBs capacity? :0c

      Jaryl Chong on

I got an official answer via twitter. If any folks were wondering, the USB memory stick will indeed be a generic memory stick that you can use like regular. Its use will not be limited to installing/running the game.

    16. Missing avatar

      Xian on

So I have the 250 tier and I pledged 280 for international shipping way before this, does that mean I have to add another 41 for the USB copy or do I just add 11$ to make up the difference?

    17. Missing avatar

      Jaryl Chong on

Question: Will we be able to use the USB memory stick like a regular memory stick? Or will its use be limited to just installing/running the game? I guess since it's a *memory stick* it'll be like a regular USB memstick, but I just wanted to be sure before I threw money at it. Hope a staff can answer this question!

    18. Missing avatar

      FH on

Yeah, I pledged for the $ 99 reward, but I'd rather get the $ 80 all digital PLUS the USB-copy now. The instructions say not to change my reward tier if I want the addon, but it should work like that, right? I can just change my reward down to the $ 80 tier and use the money to go for the USB-copy?

    19. Ryan Morgan on

I pledged $60 to get the physical game box, but I was wondering if I want the physical version of the game will that come with a game box as well or will it just be a disc by itself??

    20. Missing avatar

      Wild Wolf of Mibu on

Is the copy on the USB drives just an installer, or can I play and save my games directly onto it?

    21. Missing avatar

      Jacob B on

I was planning to get a physical disc copy. But since they couldn't guarantee that it will be DRM-free, I instead created a second kickstarter account with a $20 pledge for a second download.

      Bjorn Hargestam on

Wouldn´t it be awesome if the USB was packaged in a way that made it fit the "physical box" in the $60 tier? They would make a beautiful pair!

I too wonder if international shipping should be calculated twice...

    23. Missing avatar

      Alex Kupse on

Hey, in regards to the extra physical copy of the game, if you ship internationally, does shipping cost count towards the pledge?

Like if I pledged $119 to pay for shipping in a $99 reward tier, for a physical NES usb copy to ship internationally should the pledge be either $140 if shipping counts or $160 if shipping doesn't count?

    24. Missing avatar

      Gino Pacheco on

Is there a deadline for the add-ons?

    25. Christopher Wheat on

I want this but is there any way we can get this as a cart for this on the vita instead? My fear for a USB or cd copy is that eventually it won't work with ever changing pcs without patches that removes the benefits of a physical copy. Where until a console physical copy so long as you have the system you are good to go.

    26. Ryan Fox on

@Jörn Büchler. I think that would be cool, however I do not believe that it will be actual size of the old NES / Famicom cartage. If you take a second look at the image, the concept image shows a relatively small cartage in comparison to the usb portion. I hate to rain on your parade but it looks like it may be no larger than your thumb. Its still really cool nonetheless!

    27. Jeremy Seal on

Its a steam version? Why cant it just be a regular pc disc? i want a physical copy, but not a drm one. I hope the ps3/4 has physical copies eventually.

    28. Protoman Red Bomber on

We can expect some mysterious character with similar abilities to Beck? Like a rival or something like that. Also, if a character like this is planned, have any chance that we can play as him?

While I understand a MightyCast every week isn't possible. I would love to have a semi-regular podcast to catchup on development and to keep the public involved. Maybe once a month, or every other month at the latest. The podcast has done a great job of making the whole project seem very real and active. I believe it would be a huge disservice to lose the "voice" that the 8-4 crew has given Mighty No. 9. I believe I speak for most when I say, keep the podcast alive! :D

    30. Christopher Robert Brech on

Please help... I'm not trying to be mean, I think everyone in 8-4 is truly wonderful. I am unable to listen to the Tom Pon interview, which I was really looking forward to, and I am hoping there is a transcript available? Somewhere on Google Docs, or anywhere?

I literally (real meaning of that word) threw my headphones across the room in frustration. I can not stand excessive uses of the sounds "uhm", "uh", "soooo", and other filler verbal noises. I am not an angry person, mind you. Maybe I need therapy! In person, although it's rude, I have to zone out of a conversation when it happens just to get by. But in this unique situation, my enthusiasm to know what was said is equally striking.

I nearly cried listening to the last interview too, as I clenched my teeth and paused the interview frequently to take breaks. I just can't do it again. This is probably trivial and pathetic to most, but I really want to know what was actually said... without breaking things. Please. And if this comes across as anything besides a serious request, I am not joking. :(

      Thank you so much!

I am pledged in at $60+ so I cna ge the physical box and manual...

Now, My ORIGINAL plan was to "fake up" a physical release using Steam's backup feature. I don't need to do that now, it looks like. What I DO need, is to know. I want a physical DISC and a physical USB. What do I increase my pledge to to get both of them? And is each separate copy a different copy of the game?

    32. John Weston on

not much time left to reach these new stretch goals though....

    33. Jonathan Goldberg, the harmony artist on

Could we get physical copies of Mighty No. 9 for consoles?

      : )

Is the USB NES cartridge in the original size like the old once ?

    35. mrfatso ~ Defender of The Goat on

could someone tell us if it is possible to pledge for an additional digital copy. I dont have enough space at home for physical disc. But i would love to be able to play this game on pc and on my ps3. so.... help?

    36. Alexandre Hong Huot Tiv on

      @Alan Manganti Lalonde.

Thanks. I was wondering about that myself.

Well, looks like it's multiple pledges for me. I want one for PC, for PS3/4 (PS4 prioritized) and PSV. So that's an extra 120$ from me.

Maybe also an extra 42$ as well just because of the USB Steam version for Linux since I enjoy switching back and to from Windows and Linux OS.

    37. Missing avatar

      SirSoupcan on

My biggest question is as follows: would the 3DS version have the multiplayer that the other versions do? Even if it's local wireless, that'd be amazing. IF that's the case, and if we're getting close to that goal by Tuesday, I'd probably chip in another $40 (getting my pledge to $60) just to have a gold beck to use in there :P

    38. Missing avatar

      Alan Manganti Lalonde on

Hey everyone, I asked @MightyNo9 and they responded saying that Gold Beck and the Special Transformation are only applicable to one copy of your pledge. If you want multiple Gold Beck and Special Transformation codes, you need to donate multiple times at the $60 level (minimum) on PayPal.

I think I'll drop by and post that here every time the question pops up and my post exits the first page of comments.

    39. Chevy James Pirart on

i want a physical copy of Mighty No.9 and will take one in disc form for the PC if need be but i would really want a physical copy of it for ps3 or 360? how many others out there want to see this happen! it would be nice to have an actual console physical copy since Mega Man back in the Day was on console only, it seems only reasonable to make this happen? at least thats my opinion on the matter, i want a 360 or ps3 physical copy! that's just me tho it would be sweet if everyone got on board with that concept to make it happen for console owners as well. I think there is enough support to make this happen seeing the numbers rising just in the last few hours even, please make this a possibility!

    40. Ubence Quevedo on

All the talk seems to be about adding an extra physical copy to your pledge if you adjust the amount/level, but what about extra digital copies? I pledged at the $40 with $40 more so I could potentially get 2x$20 pledge levels for a total of 3 copies of the game. Will that work...?

    41. Missing avatar

      Ignatius P. Amsterdam on

Also, since I am here, I might as well give my opinion re. Steam/DRM on the physical copies. I understand what you are saying about this being the easiest way to patch/update the game if you can to play it way down the line, 5 or 10 years. But to me, it's a fair trade-off compromise -- as long as the original shipped version is a complete working product in itself -- to be able to play it hassle-free even if there were no ability to update to the latest version. As it stands, it sort of goes against the pick-up-and-play philosophy which is one of the main reasons I like my physical collection so much.
(Of course, I'm not accounting for compatibility updates with new hardware or the like, if it should ever become incompatible. But, old hardware can always be kept around or acquired; once a closed online service goes down, it's away forever.)

    42. Missing avatar

      Ignatius P. Amsterdam on

I don't know if Comcept are still scanning these comments, but I am just wondering if the physical box, if you choose that reward, will actually be big enough to fit the disc and/or USB cartridge properly inside it? Probably, but just making sure. The most logical place to put something is in its box :-)

    43. Christian Otero Vazquez Pagan on

Yeah, I would like to know if we would get all the in-game beckers exclusive in both versions. Mine is Wii U and PC.

    44. Casey Culdice on

I have opted for the $99 reward tier, and I plan on making that my Wii U version, however I want a version for PC. If I pay extra for a disc copy for PC, will that copy also have all the bonuses that my Wii U copy will? (golden beck and exclusive transformation)

Hello, I am an international backer (South America) who wants the extra physical copy in USB, but my sister lives in the United States. Can I have the game sent to my sister's house in the US for $36 or do I have to add $41 eventhough I will still request the game to be sent to her address anyway?

I am looking at getting all three physical copies, but do not want to make any mistakes. I am in the US. My original pledge was for the $250 tier. So to that I add $26+$36+$36 right? That would make a total of $348 the $250 tier and the three physical copies right?

    47. Timothy Glore on

It seems the physical versions are for PC only.

@Imani - From what I understand, the "physical box" is actually more for show. From what I read, the box will be like the boxes that old game cartridges came in. Here's a quick image search:
