Vengeance is a miniatures board game that embodies the essence of pulp revenge movies like Kill Bill, Old Boy, Django Unchained and the like. You play a hero that has been left for dead by shady underworld gangs, out to avenge yourself.
You win by building your hero up into an unstoppable killing machine, mowing down the villains who wronged you, bursting into their bosses’ dens to lay down your vengeance upon them in action-packed fight sequences.
Over 80 testers in Europe and the US have participated in the game's blind testing process. The following are the elements of the game testers enjoyed most:
- fights feel fluid and dynamic, like an actual fight sequence, despite their being turn based.
- building a string of combos and pulling them off during fight turns.
- the variety of strategies possible.
- the balance of chance and strategy/puzzle solving.
The Vengeance core game supports 1-4 players and takes 30 minutes per player to complete. The core game includes 4 gangs: Zuce Clan, Lordz, Tengu-Kai and the Hell Riders. The Rosari Gang Pack expansion adds a new gang, a new hero and the necessary components to take the maximum number of players to 5.
Vengeance will include rules in French, Spanish and German available for download in .pdf format soon after the campaign ends.
The core game comes with 80 highly detailed miniatures sculpted by Slawek Kosciukiewicz from Titan Forge. The Rosari Gang Pack adds another 10 miniatures.

To buy the add-ons, all you need to do is to increase your pledge by the cost of all the add-ons you want. To do this:
- Press the "Manage" button next to your pledge on the Kickstarter project page. If you have not pledged yet, it will say "Back this Project".
- Click on “Change Your Pledge”.
- Increase your pledge in the "Pledge Amount" box by the sum of all add-ons you want to order.
- After the Kickstarter campaign ends you will receive a link to the project's Pledge Manager.
- Within that page you will then be able to select the specific add-ons and quantities you want.
- You will also be able to purchase other items there (games, expansions and add-ons) using paypal.
The game alternates between Montage and Fight turns. In Montage turns you heal and upgrade your hero with new abilities and items. You also scout gang dens to find the bosses who wronged you and take revenge in the Fight turn. This is done through a combination of a pooled dice draft combined with a selection of possible Montage actions unique to each hero.
The Fight turn is the heart of the game. Pick a gang den containing a boss you have beef with and burst in to exact bloody revenge. You gain VPs for killing the boss, clearing the den from all the minions or both for maximum points.
Fights are basically dice-based puzzles. In each round of the Fight you roll a set of dice and decide the order in which to play them. Upgrade skills and items allow you to swap die-results or string them together to perform enemy-slapping combos giving you more control over their fight actions.
Postage and packing will be calculated at the end of the campaign. It will vary depending on the number of stretch goals unlocked, their volume and weight as well as the number of backers from various regions. Here are the current estimates:
Gordon Calleja is the designer of Vengeance and Posthuman. Gordon is also a video game designer and has done the game design for Will Love Tear Us Apart and Posthuman: Sanctuary. He is also a game researcher and has written a book about game immersion.
Axel Torvenius is the lead artist on Vengeance. He works in the video game industry and was concept artist on games such as: Wolfenstein: The Old Blood, Wolfenstein: New Order, Syndicate, Chronicles of Riddick and The Darkness.
Slawek Kosciukiewicz is the miniature sculptor for Vengeance and Lobotomy along with a long line of miniatures from Titan Forge.
Fabrizio Cali is an illustrator, 3D modeller and animator. He worked on illustration, graphic design and video assets for Posthuman and Will Love Tear Us Apart. He is the hand behind Vengeance's den illustrations and the Kickstarter video creation and editing.
David Chircop is the lead developer on Vengeance. David is a game designer and developer currently working at CD Project. He is the designer behind the award winning And Then We Held Hands and The Pursuit of Happiness.
Adam Brimmer is the lead graphic designer.
Marvin Zammit is in charge of production and fulfilment. He is managing director and tech lead at Mighty Box.
Test Leads: Paul Trundle, Mikkel Rosdahl, Jean-Luc Portelli, Matthew Agius Muscat, Rafael Cordero, Alessandro Canossa and Arda Cevik. These guys were a huge help in the six months of blind testing the game went through. A heartfelt thanks goes to all of them and the 80+ testers they recruited and managed to make Vengeance the great game it is!
Vengeance received funding from the Malta Arts Council.
Risks and challenges
Vengeance has already been developed in full and tested by a pool of over 80 testers around the world. Note that most of the stretch goals we have lined up have also been tested during this process. After this campaign finishes we will, however, be doing more blind testing to ensure clarity of communication in the rulebook and the game's graphic design.
Then we will be preparing the final artwork for submission to the manufacturers. Most of this is done, except for some stretch goals we have prepared for the campaign. The whole team is very experienced in this process already so there is minimal risk in this part of the project completion.
The next step is manufacturing. We have been in contact with a number of manufacturers and we have selected three who are able to produce the game to our highest quality expectations. We have learned a lot through our first game, Posthuman and we are applying all the lessons learned in order to select the best and most reliable supplier of these. Titan Forge will be assisting with the manufacturing process of the miniatures. Having said this we are giving extra care to miniature production as it is the only part of the process we do not have direct in-house experience in.
We are also in contact with some of the most highly recommended shipping services in order to ensure a smooth process until the game reaches your doorstep.
Having said all of this, there may be some unforeseen circumstances beyond our control which may affect our meticulous plans. In that case we can assure you that we will do everything in our capacity to get the process back on track.
