Tendrils in Her Mind: Finale! + even more SGs unlocked!

Dr. Miraine found Sharpie at the gate to the zoo, running her fingers over the words tattooed on her arms, repeating them to herself over and over. The biologist could see clarity and focus in her companion’s eyes – she knew that, like her, she had managed to get through the worst horrors the Whisperer could throw at them. They had both followed a treacherous path through the darkest recesses of their own minds, and found their way back out into the clear light of sanity just as the first rays of dawn were beginning to break.

All along her long journey from the Fortress, Dr. Miraine had kept her clear, simple objective before her eyes: get to Romolo Park Zoo, however hard the journey. Now that she was here, she had to admit to herself that she didn’t know exactly what she expected to find, or what her plan would be.

But there was no time to dwell on that. As light began to filter through the branches overhead, they made their way down the main avenue of the zoo. In the enclosures on either side of them, strange creatures were beginning to stir – an elephant encased in plates of bony armour; a peacock with a hundred eyes in its tail, all following them as they walked past; the upper bodies of a family of baboons emerging from an engorged, chitinous mass; some horror that might have been a horse or a cow or who knows what before its skin was turned inside out.

At the end of the avenue, beyond the restaurant and the visitors’ centre, stood the laboratory complex. To their surprise, they were able to make their way there without encountering any resistance: no Tacklers chasing them, no Manshields blocking their way, no more attacks by the Whisperer. The place seemed entirely abandoned.

In the labs, they found stacks of notes, shelves upon shelves of carefully-ordered DNA samples, dissected specimens of anatomy no-one had ever seen beyond those walls. Just by skimming the material, it was evident to Dr. Miraine that this was the work of a brilliant mind – but one that, unlike herself, had no concern for ethics or morality in pursuing their experiments.

Still, something else troubled her – something about the notes and the way of thinking they revealed. It was…strangely familiar.

Suddenly, she remembered a student of hers, in the last years of the old world. A promising girl who had assisted her on one of her last mutation projects – a mind as sharp as any she had ever seen, ambitious, endlessly curious. And yet – there was always something about her intensity that Dr. Miraine had always found a little unsettling. She recalled auburn hair and a wry smile – and the image superimposed itself onto one of the first visions the Whisperer had sent her, the beautiful young woman with the disquieting smile.

So that’s who you are, she thought. And that’s why you’ve been toying with me all along.

One question remained: where had she gone? Was this just the next move in her game? Had she moved on to continue her experiments elsewhere? Dr. Miraine had no answers. But, looking around at all the material around her – all the notes she needed to decipher, the samples she had to analyze – she knew she had a thorny road undoing her former student’s plans.

UNLOCK: Mission Objective: Romolo Park Zoo

More Stretch Goals Unlocked!

We are super happy that we’ve unlocked all three Resistance story packs. The expansion Story Book added level 3 story encounters to the level 1 and level 2 stories in the base game. Now with the SG unlocks the Resistance Story Book will also include stories for the Level 2 encounters, replacing those in the Base game Story Book with brand new stories for even more replay-ability!

We've also unlocked another encounter pack: the Pinhead, together with 3 new stories for the story book and the much longed-for printed token bags so you can easily identify the scavenge token bag from the challenge token bag!

There's just one final Social Stretch goal to unlock and we're pretty close to unlocking that one too! So hop on over to Instagram, create an account if you don't have one and follow Mighty Boards to unlock the Crafted Cuts melee weapons pack:

That's all for this update. Hope you've enjoyed the Tendrils in Her Mind story Finale by Daniel Vella, who is also the writer for the stories in the Story Book.

And remember we have more stuff to unlock so spread the word like a mutant infestation and let's get everyone infected by Posthuman Saga!

Keep safe,
Team Mighty Boards
