If I get funded, I plan to send every backer my first chapter before it goes to an editor. You won't have to wait until June to read the first chapter. Alas, I have to get funded for you to get it though and you have to be a backer.
How can you help make sure that happens?
Share this campaign, back me and tell your friends! :)
So when I get funded, you get chapter 1. YAY, it's awesome by the way! :)
My story as an author began with National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) when I wrote my first draft to Midnight Crimson in 2010. I was excited like every author before me once I had a first draft in my hands. I headed into the edits. It was tough. The process of writing the same chapters over and over was a slow learning process for me. I was determined to write and continued forward even with a massive setting change which gave my novel a great back drop. An ex-mining colony.
All was going to plan when the unthinkable happened to my family. My father, a great man, lost his battle with a bad valve in his heart and died in Feb. 2013. My mother, a wonderful woman, tried to move forward but lost her own life in Sept. 2013 to lung cancer. It was a very hard year.
The loss of my parents in their 60s set my writing career on hold. I took a few years to come to terms with their deaths. The pain is still there but their memory helps to push me forward in my own goals. My mother before her death had told me she wanted me to finish my novel.
For her and my dad, I want to do my best to bring my novel to life and to give my novel it's best chance at success. To do this, I need your help. I currently have no budget for a professional editor or a marketing budget.
An editor will help to make sure my grammar is in top shape when I self publish. Without an editor, my novel might look unfinished and not professional enough in the tough market. I want to make sure my novel is the best it can be for my readers and an editor can help me do this.
As an unknown author, I need exposure so people can find out my novel exists. A marketing budget even a small one can help me get the word out to the right readers. Without marketing, my novel may just get lost in the huge shuffle of books self published every day.
Please consider helping me bring my novel to it's best. I want to make my parents proud and I want to give the readers out there a novel worth reading and a memorable one.
The brief description of Midnight Crimson on the back of the cover.
Sarah, a Vampire-Human mix travels to Dusk to meet Megan, her friend and finds herself in the middle of a Vampire clan war. Tag along with Sarah as she meets Kamian, head of the Midnight Vampire clan and falls in love with him. Will she survive the war, will she find true love or will Dusk be yet another disappointment in her life.
I use a logo to promote myself as an author on different online sites. This helps readers to recognize it's me and not just my current novel.
My budget plans with the Kickstarter money.
I plan to use a freelance editor for a line edit and plan to use a budget at around $1000. My novel is approximately 65,000 words but most line edits run by the page at approximately $3-5 a page. My novel is approximatley 300 pages. At $3 a page, I would spend $900 for a line edit.
I will use the rest of the money for marketing. This means I may have as little as $200 for marketing but I plan to use Facebook ads where I can set the amount to spend on the ad, friends and family to help spread the word about my novel and other low cost high return marketing ads.

Risks and challenges
My biggest risk and challenge is meeting the standard readers have of novels which are self published in the market. Many times writers self publish books which readers assume are a low quality due to book cover-art, lack of an editor, being an unknown author and not sounding professional enough as an author. I have read countless articles, blogs and done research on how to overcome a few of these challenges.
I know my book cover is the first thing a reader sees and is used to market the book hence why I spent countless hours doing my cover with a photo program. I try to be a professional by having a separate author Facebook page which does not include my family issues or events. I want to hire an editor so my book doesn't end up with grammar problems. I do know the editor will need to use the Chicago Manual of Style which is the manual the publishing houses use with the books they publish. I plan to market the book with Facebook ads, book clubs and other ideas. I know to make sure I track my ad campaigns to know how many books are sold vs how much I spent on an ad. It will help make sure I don't overspend on ads not working in my favor.
Overall, I plan to do my best and not give up in my struggle to become an author and to meet the standard of readers worldwide.
