Midlands Movies Awards 2020
The 4th annual Midlands Movies Awards is planned to take place at Hansom Hall in Leicester on Saturday 14th March 2020.
With the Academy Awards just a month before, these Midlands 'Oscars' will be a platform to honour the local films released in the past 12 months – whether they be shorts, features, animation, documentaries and more. We will be rewarding the region’s talent in categories such as ‘Best Picture’, ‘Best Actor / Actress’, ‘Best Director’ and many more.
We will be producing video slideshows and giving out trophies to winners. You can find out more about the great selection of nominees and winners at our 2019 event by clicking here. Check out the full 2019 winners by clicking here.
Why an Awards Ceremony?
After the success of our 2019 Awards, Midlands Movies hopes to expand the scope of the Awards by allowing filmmakers even more opportunities to celebrate their work whilst networking with their peers.
In addition to our glamorous red carpet entrance, the 2019 awards was our first awards ceremony that was filmed which enabled us to further honour a wide range of filmmakers.
With BBC Radio presenter Ed Stagg hosting, a full capacity venue experienced an amazing night and Midlands Movies hope to follow that with another great evening out in 2020!
Midlands Movies has showcased a wide variety of talent over 6 years from the region’s film industry - ranging from first-time students and hobbyists to full feature productions involving stars of stage, TV and worldwide cinema. With creatives from every walk of life, Midlands Movies is a place for everyone with a story and skill to share. Currently based in Leicester, support has come from a range of excellent regional writers and have hosted their own themed film screenings in conjunction with Firebug Film Club for 4 years.
IMPORTANT: Please note being a donor has no bearing on the Award Nominations or Winners.
Funds raised will help us pay for the awards venue, photography, refreshments, certificates, entertainment, trophies and ceremony production. Additional funds will be needed for administration and event management.
[Stretch goals] If we reach contributions totalling over £1250 then Midlands Movies can provide further marketing thus giving more publicity to everyone shortlisted, as well as source more VIPs and speakers. If donations total over £1400 then investment will be made available to look into live broadcasting from the red carpet.
We would like the Midlands Movies Awards to be a unique and exciting way to celebrate regional filmmakers for their hard work in a way that is both entertaining and informative. We hope that others will be similarly motivated and draw upon our event for their own artistic endeavours. And finally, your support will also help us share the awards ceremony with audiences long after the red carpet has been rolled away.
Risks and challenges
We have provisionally booked Hansom Hall but should the crowd funding be unsuccessful then we have a list of alternative venues to consider in that instance.
However, with your support we would love to run the event at this prestigious venue as planned.
With three hugely successful events already run as well as the great reception we received from last year's Awards, we are sure to create another fantastic evening with your support.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
