Edge of Eternity is a turn-by-turn combat system J-RPG. Currently, this is an early concept mobile preview. It doesn't represent the final version of the game.

The game will be playable on PC, Linux, Mac, PSVita, Wii U, OUYA, PS4, XBoxOne, iPhone, iPad, Android, Windows Phone 8, Blackberry 10...

The graphic universe of the game is a mix of Steampunk and Medieval Ages influences, with a hint of the best Japanese RPGs.

Available in English, French or Japanese, the game is currently in making process.

Plot Summary

The end of peace for the world of Heryon has come to the edge. An alien civilization has invaded the world to conquer everything, and enslave anyone that would step into their ways, spreading chaos and death through a virus that turns people and animals into metal monsters.

Daryon, the hero, is forced to leave after being haunted by his kind now turned into monsters. Left to the unknown, he decides to throws himself into a crusade of freedom and bravery, to save his world and discover his real origins. His devotion to the world of Heryon will lead him in an adventure he never expected.

Major events

200 years ago, a major event sealed the destiny of Heryon. The population and institutions were all sitting around the Crystals, elements that shaped the very deep roots of Heryon, such as the way to do war, the way they live and interact. Thanks to mutual understanding and dissuasion, the 3 continents forming Heryon kept peace in order for more than 80 years. But the time has changed.

What they used to consider as a blessing turned into a curse, and Crystals opened a breach to other worlds, turning peace into war and death. The crystals became dreadful weapons, greedily desired by every nations who fought to get them all, and when everything could have been different, the illusions and promises of power led the nation to abandon peace to throw themselves into death rage and horror.

18 774 GY (Galactic year) marked an important point, as a vessel coming from space did land in the harbor of Junor city. As the news spread quickly through the city, doubts and questions grew even faster as no one ever saw anyone coming out of the ship, which remained closed from the beginning to the end.

18 776 GY, as the city was starting to get used to the presence of this vessel, the most unexpected began. Taking off to the top of Junor, the vessel drastically destroyed the city and lands around. Not a warning neither a sign was to be understood.

Nothing but desolation and horror rained over the people of Junor, which was now forced to leave their native land, forming by now the Nomads of Junor.

Incomprehension and fear marked a decisive point in their history, and from this moment technology was prohibited.

Plot

Daryon and Salvia share a common burden: a jewel. A necklace made of Crystal and mechanic part, proof of technology. Something happened the first time they crossed their paths in the little village of Elon, and as they felt closer, destiny sealed their fates. Sentenced to death by the Consortium judge, under the law that prohibited the use of any form of technology, Daryon and Salvia suddenly realized their fates were to become one and only.

Although it was the first time they met, they suddenly felt bounded, and joined their forces to escape the Consortium.

They began a journey together, both burned by the desire to understand the origins of the world and finally figure out why they had these necklaces, and why they could not be removed.

Meanwhile, the situation on Heryon was getting worse as the days went by. The metal disease did spread on the Astryan continent and animals started to turn into hybrid mechanic monsters.

Nobody seemed to realize how big the danger was. Until the world started to fall into the void of carnage.

Will you set them alive? Save them. Save the world, the universe, your life, and discover your origins in an odyssey you have never seen before.

Explore the world in a corrupted medieval atmosphere and discover the deep secrets of the space, to finally seal your destiny in death or endless hope.

The game has been design on the great old school turn-by-turn combat system, to which we added some changes and innovations. We also brought a special command: the mechanic spell that will allow you to mix two different spells to produce a better attack.

 

The exploration in Edge of Eternity is based on recent J-RPG like Lost Odyssey, in which the dynamic camera gives you the impression to be in the screen, bringing life to the action! We also added a world map to develop your inner immersion into the world of Heryon.

Enemies are encountered randomly while exploring the map to always bring you surprises. However, you will be able to use a special skill to disable random encounters.

Multi-lingual playing game : english, french, japanese.

The decors and background are not pre-rendered, everything is made realtime and changing to always put you in a new situation. The view from the camera is thereby more dramatic and situational.

We do believe that views are decisive to build up the atmosphere of a game. It conveys what the situation has to offer, and allows you a total immersion in the screen.

An ATB combat system in which action depends of an ATB gauge that loads. Each character has its own gauge, and action is made possible only when the gauge is full.

A turn by turn combat system that will give you a more strategic and dynamic approach. The list of who is acting next appears on top of the screen. The last of the characters who acts is in highlight, giving you thereby the time to think what will be your next move.

The game will feature a World Map system, inspired by the great previous RPGs. You will also be able to use the Airship and Space Airship systems, widening thereby the possibilities of exploration.

The music was fully composed by Cedric Menendez. His influences for the project come from the legendary Nobuo Uematsu (melodic part), Jeremy Soul and Hans Zimmer (orchestral ones).

The music is one of the most important element in an RPG, and just as everything else in our game, we wanted it with an inner soul. You have to feel what is happening on the screen just by hearing the music, so that the melody becomes your eyes.

For us, the best themes are the ones that bring you back to the moment you first heard them, and once again tear your heart as the story suddenly comes back into your mind. This is the best strength of the legendary RPG music. This one that we wanted, that we needed.


Cloud cross platform

Midgar Studio has created some new technologies, and one of them is the Cloud Cross Platform. You can at anytime save your progression on a platform and use the back-up on another.

Imagine that you are playing Edge of Eternity on your smartphone during the day, once you are back at home you can definitely use the back up on your favorite console or computer to go back in the universe of Heryon. All you need to do is to log your account online.

Platforms

One of our first goal is to allow the player to play on ever platforms.

That is why Edge of Eternity will be available on: smartphone, tablet, PSVita (platforms for which we originally developed the game), PC, PS4, X-Box One, Mac, Linux, Ouya, Wii U…

On the Next Gen platforms (PS4 and Xbox One) Edge of Eternity will be available without the strech goal of the next gen. The strech goal 600.000 will allow us to make a new version of the game using all the HD and resources of the next gen platforms(for the characters and the background.)

Midgar Studio is a french independent studio created in 2008. After 5 years, it all became evident that we wanted to do more, and throw ourselves into the dream of our lives: the RPG, and more precisely the J-RPG. Everyone in the team has participated to at least 3 or 4 productions before.

We have the capacities and skills, the plot and the motivation. Still, the game sees no future without your help and financing. Double the game : if you want more, we propose to double the length of the game and therefor add contents, action, quests...

Next gen version : Edge of Eternity will be available on the next gen platforms (PS4, Xbox One). Reaching this goal, we could propose to you a specific next gen version of the game that will fully use the resources of the next gen platforms.

The trilogy  : The plot of Edge of Eternity was written and thought as a trilogy. Reaching this final goal, two other games will see the day, and you will continue your quest in the universe of Heryon.
