About

Anger provides the energy needed for change. Maybe your situation, maybe yourself. But learning to respond to your anger, not react from it, is the key to healthy usage. 

Think of healthy anger as a road you are walking. On the left side of the road there is the anger that we don’t allow ourselves to feel and express (which makes us sick and ruins our relationships) and on the other side we have anger that is over-expressed (which makes us sick and ruins our relationships). If you have veered off onto one side, you want to course correct back to the middle, not overcorrect to the other side.

Aren't we all pissed off about something right now? We're not wrong to be. But how do we use that anger to change the world instead of letting it poison our own lives?

About the book

Unf*ck Your Anger: Using Science to Develop a Healthy Relationship with Frustration, Rage, and Forgiveness by Dr. Faith G. Harper, PhD, LPC-S, ACS, ACN is a 5x7 inch, 128-page paperback book, illustrated by Trista Vercher.

This is Dr. Faith's ninth book! In it, she uses her trademark combination of science and swearing to shine a light on this much-felt but little-discussed emotion. She tackles topics like:

  • Anger's evolutionary function and why we need it even though we often get carried away with it
  • The human brain's nine rage triggers and how to figure out your main ones
  • The close relationships between anger and depression, bipolar disorder, anxiety, trauma, and self-harm
  • Tons of tools and exercises for managing your anger in healthier ways
  • Steps for using your anger to create social change
  • A new 5-stage model for practicing forgiveness

A little about the origins of this book: It started out as a 32-page zine (if you don't know what that is, it's pronounced "zeen" and is like a stapled pamphlet but cooler) called This is Your Brain on Anger, which evolved into becoming one of the chapters in Unf*ck Your Brain. We've been steadily reworking and expanding those chapters into full-fledged books in their own right, in order of popularity—starting with anxiety and depression, and now it's anger's turn. (If that doesn't give you a snapshot of our national psyche, I don't know what does.) The book will be over 4 times as long as the zine/chapter and completely rewritten — it contains a few of the same big ideas but is it's own entirely new thing.

About the author

Dr. Faith Harper is a trauma-informed therapist with a PhD and a growing number of other degrees and certifications. She is the author of eight books including the bestselling Unf*ck Your Brain. She lives in San Antonio, Texas where she has a private practice, trains other clinicians, and writes prolifically. She proudly identifies as a woman of color and an uppity intersectional feminist.

Risks and challenges

This book has already been developed, written, and edited and we're confident that it's a good book—maybe the best Dr. Faith book yet, but you can be the judge of that.

As for producing the actual book, we always print in the USA (rural Illinois, to be exact). So we know that even the threat of tariffs that is causing worry and upheaval in the rest of the publishing industry won't affect our costs or timelines. And our printer does a good job making books that look and feel great.

Our 24 years of experience have taught us that unexpected pitfalls can always happen, but we're confident that we can roll with anything that goes wrong—and we'll keep in touch with you the whole time to let you know what to expect.
