About this project
Now that we've exceeded our modest goal, we have a real possibility to cover more of the $12,000 total costs of making this book and even adding amenities like lay-flat binding, a thicker cover stock, coated post-consumer paper, and other fanciness. Please see us through to our stretch goals!
The Sea Shepherd Conservation Society is a non-profit, marine conservation organization. They use direct action tactics to protect marine life on the high seas in situations that are risky.
Think!, Eat!, Act! is a cookbook featuring the vegan food prepared on the Sea Shepherd ships' anti-whaling campaigns and written by one of the chefs. Inspired by the Sea Shepherd's goal of protecting the animals that are victims of human cruelty, this book uses delicious vegan food to show readers that every action has a consequence, and that you can live both well and compassionately, even while facing the challenges of being an activist living on a ship.
Divided into profiles of ideology leading to veganism, 80 delicious recipes with full color photos, and profiles of current vegan activist campaigns around the world, THINK! EAT! ACT! is downright inspiring.
Risks and challenges
This will be tied for our longest full color book to date at 192 pages. The vast majority of full color books are printed in China, to the detriment of American jobs and labor conditions. But we will be printing these at a worker-owned print shop in Illinois, because it's what our conscience allows.
Combined, all of this costs about $3,000 more than our typical release. This Kickstarter project will ensure that we can afford the cost difference.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
Most of our books only cost $2,000-7,000 but Think! Eat! Act! will cost us around $12,000! On top of that, we'll need to ship books to the author in Europe. Now that we've exceeded our modest $3,000 goal, we have a real possibility to cover more of the total costs of making this book and even adding amenities like lay-flat binding, a thicker cover stock, coated post-consumer paper, and other fanciness.
The book is finished being layed out and designed. The photos are taken and placed. The recipes are written. We just need to do final proofreading and corrections (the eighth round of them) and have the funds to print the book!
