Michigan House is the Great Lakes State's experiential embassy to SXSW. This year will be our fifth year connecting creatives and innovators from all over the state to SXSW's worldwide audience. We've got big plans for speakers, panels, parties, and, of course, for music. Since year one it's been a core goal for Michigan House to provide opportunity and access for Michigan artists who make the trip to Austin. We're asking you to contribute to this effort.
Last fall, we asked Michigan Musicians to apply to perform with us this March in Austin through Detroit-based startup Opnr Music. We had more than 340(!) Michigan artists apply and we've spent the last couple months basking in all the amazing local music sent our way and making some really tough decisions. Now we're trying to raise the funds to help bring more than ten (10) Michigan acts to Austin. We want to help them get there. We want to help them have a place to stay when they get there. We want to give them at least one great show to at play while they're down there. That's why we need your help.
Michigan House comes together each year thanks to an incredibly collaborative effort between a large group of Michigan-based companies and organizations. Their contributions allow us to connect Michigan to the huge global audience that comes to SXSW each year. Our music funding has always been harder to put together, so this year we're bringing it to all of you.
Whether you're a longtime follower of ours or someone who has just discovered us through one of the 2019 Artists - we're excited that you care enough about Michigan's music scene to have gotten this far (and read this much). Now we're asking for you to take a look at the rewards listed below and see if you can support Michigan House's efforts to help Michigan's musicians have their best SXSW experience yet.
Getting down to Austin during SXSW is a dream for a lot of acts. Your support will help make some of those dreams come true in 2019.
Risks and challenges
Even in year 5 we're constantly aware of the risks and challenges that come along with trying to create a large-scale experience during one of the worlds most famous events. Our experience has taught us the levels of planning and attention to detail that are needed to make Michigan House a reality.
We're reaching out to our audience and the audiences of the 2019 Artists so that our efforts on the music side can be properly funded. We realize that failure to achieve our funding goals will limit the amount of support we can provide to the artists and may limit the value the artists are then able to get out of their trip.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
