Kings of Air and Steam is a pick up and deliver game...with a twist.
Played in 5 rounds with each player receiving 4 turns per round.
At the beginning of each round players will program their airships movement for each of the 4 turns secretly. Then each player receives their first turn movement cards, these will dictate how far the airships move, and in what order they get to move.
After an airship moves, they get their choice of one action. Action options include things like building a depot, upgrading your airship or train, shipping goods, adjusting your airships route, or soliciting funds. Once movement and action are completed, the turn is over.
Once each player has resolved their movement and action that turn, all players will reveal their next movement card and continue the process.
Check out the following reviews to get a good feel for what Kings of Air and Steam are all about...
Technology cards are the gizmos and gadgets that really can make your team pop with surprises.
During set up, each player is randomly dealt four Technology Cards. One of these is drafted by each player and the remaining three are passed around. Players continue to draft one and pass the remaining until they each have three technology cards. (Non-drafted Technology cards are returned to the box.)
The three Technology Cards each player has drafted start the game out of play. During the game, As An Action, players may choose to put a Technology Card into play by paying the cost shown in the top left.
Some Technology Cards remain in the game, giving a permanent boost or ability. Others are a one time use with a really strong effect. There are even some that will add to your end game scoring conditions.
One of the elements that really enhances Kings of Air and Steams fun experience is the variety of different teams. Each teams characters and special Movement Cards have fun abilities and a distinct personality.
This diversity allows for numerous match ups and variable play styles to keep the game fresh and engaging every time it hits the table.
Now, World's Fair introduces two new teams to the previous seven. So even when you are playing with the full 7 players you can mix teams in and out.
Those two new teams are introduced below:
Team Momentum will require that players use the Tech card expansion content, tweaking the way the tech cards are used.
Team Leaf on the Wind introduces a whole new way to approach the game, where you can really capitalize having your footprint on the game board minimized.
During game Setup each player receives a Contract Card. This card has a set of goods that the player will be rewarded for shipping during the game. The more goods you ship on your Contract Card, the greater your reward will be.
For those of you backing for the World's Fair Expansion Only (base game is required to play):
USA Customers - Will be shipped to you via Amazon after the slow boat from China brings the games over.
Non-USA Customers - Will be shipped to directly from China. Our previous experience with Flip City indicates that games won't get caught up in customs. After sending almost 400 copies of Flip City worldwide, no hang-ups were reported.
For those of you backing for both; Kings of Air and Steam + KoAS: World's Fair:
USA Customers - Will be shipped to you via Amazon after the slow boat from China. It is our intent that Amazon will ship these together.
EU Customers - This Tier is EU Friendly, these will be shipped to you via a shipping partner inside the EU after the slow boat from China to the EU.
Non USA / EU Customers - Base Game and Expansion will be shipped separately (Two Separate Packages.) directly from China. It is prudent to realize that the larger box may attract more attention. We ask that you please familiarize yourself with your countries import laws so you are not caught by surprise.
