It is the first Millenium, BC. The location is the Eastern Mediterranean. Groups of people banded together in city-states, and through conquest and commerce, they rose to prominence. It was an era where many separate kingdoms and individuals each had their own distinct moment “in the sun”. This is the world of Gentes, where players will guide their civilization through the ups and downs of history, trying to make sure they are the one who makes a permanent mark in the annals of history!
Designed by Stefan Risthaus (Arkwright), this civilization game is for 2-4 players and will last around 90 minutes. While training priests, soldiers, merchants, artisans, and scholars, players will establish and populate significant cities, while creating monuments that will glorify their greatness to those who see them in the future.
To perform most actions, you will take an available Action Tile from the main board and add it to the time track on your player board, paying its cost in coins (6 in the example above) and taking the required number of Hourglass Tokens (1 above).
When an Action Tile requires you to take multiple Hourglass Tokens, you may choose to place 2 in a single space of your time track in order to allow room for more actions - when your time track is full you won't be able to take any more actions for the rest of the round.
At the end of the round, you'll return all Action Tiles to the main board and remove 1 Hourglass Token from each space of your time track. Any remaining Hourglass Tokens slide to the left and stay for the next round, limiting the number of actions you'll be able to take.
Gentes will be published in amazing Deluxified™ format, with all the quality you have come to expect from TMG.
As you may have noticed, we are doing something slightly different with Gentes than we have from earlier campaigns. For Gentes, TMG has decided to replace the cardboard components with wood and metal en masse. Backers will not have to wait for a stretch goal to be hit to complete the material upgrades. We are excited about this small shift in our process, and we hope you are as well!
Tasty Minstrel Games is of the opinion that amazing games should also look amazing while you are playing them. This is why we choose to offer an upgraded version of our releases when we have a Kickstarter campaign. Ever since we first undertook this process, with the game Orleans, the Deluxified™ versions of our games have proven to be fan favorites, and we think that our Deluxe version of Gentes will continue this amazing tradition that some of our other games like Yokohama and Crusaders: Thy Will Be Done helped forge.
The additional cost for the Deluxified™ components matches our cost with no additional profit, to make and deliver them to you the backer. For this reason, TMG will only make a Deluxified™ version through crowdfunding. We will make enough for Kickstarter Backers, some replacement copies, and some convention sales in Limited Quantity. Backing this Kickstarter at the Deluxified™ level is the only way that you can guarantee yourself a Deluxe copy of Gentes.
We are super excited that Game Brewer will be handling EU fulfillment and will also be supplying the games in more languages for our backers. Localized Versions of Gentes will include a copy of the English rules and a set of rules in the language specified in the pledge manager after the campaign has closed. There may also be additional sets of rules in these copies depending on the final numbers of each language that are requested.
People have come to expect a premium experience when choosing to support a Deluxified™ TMG game. Gentes will follow our high quality shipping standard of being bubble wrapped, boxed individually and then boxed up again before being shipped to you. This will ensure that your copy arrives in pristine condition, ready to enjoy.
In addition to premium packaging this project has Friendly Shipping!
What does Friendly Shipping mean? It means that for each of the above countries we will be sending bulk shipments to fulfillment partners paying VAT and fulfilling more directly. We have also done all we can to ensure that globally everyone has a good experience with the best shipping options that we could source. Whenever a shipping partner has the games and is ready to ship, we give the green light. This means that some parts of the world might receive their game a few weeks before other places. This is done so that you get your game the earliest we are able to get it to you!
Friendly Local Game Stores are an invaluable part of this hobby that we love, and we appreciate everything they do to bring value to the industry. We want to support them in any way we can.
We are excited to offer our Retail Pledge to our Brick and Morter stores located in the US, Canada, and EU. Retailers located outside of these areas are encouraged to look into drop-ship options that will allow them to take advantage of this offer.
The Retailer Pledge Tier of $61 is a deposit that will be applied towards your final purchase of Gentes Deluxified™ cases. Case count will be 4 Deluxified™ units, will include all stretch goals unlocked during the campaign, and each case will have a price of $200 ($50 per game). A pledge manager will be used to collect any amount above your deposit prior to shipping, and the cost of shipping will also be determined in the pledge manager.
There will be a Retailer purchase limit of 3 cases of games, and games purchased using the Retailer Pledge Level will be sent out at the same time as the other rewards.
Verification of Retailer Eligibility will take place prior to fulfillment of the rewards.
All of us here at TMG realize that a good relationship between publisher and backer during a crowdfunding campaign is paramount for it to be a success. It is our goal to make sure that the communication in the Kickstarter projects run by Tasty Minstrel Games will among the most active and connected to be found on the crowd funding platform. To achieve this, TMG will do the following:
For the first 7 days of the campaign, we will post updates at least once every 72 business hours. In addition, during normal business hours (8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Mountain Time on weekdays), the comments page will be monitored for questions and those will be answered by the TMG Staff.
After the first 7 days, while the campaign is live, we will update the campaign at least once a week. The comments page will continue to be checked on a regular basis (but not continuously monitored) every day and questions will be answered at those times.
After the campaign has concluded, the comments page will continue to be monitored on a regular basis, but with less frequency than before. Any questions posted will be answered when they are seen. Updates will be sent whenever new, pertinent information about the campaign can be relayed to backers. If 30 days go by without new, pertinent information, a quick "all is well" update will be posted to maintain communication with our backers.
After the games have been sent to our backers, and fulfillment has been completed, we will consider the campaign to be concluded, and any further communication would need to go through our normal support lines.
It is our mission and our intent that with these guidelines, our backers will enjoy an unprecedented level of connection to the campaign, ensuring a satisfying experience from the beginning of the campaign to the day that the game is delivered to them, and beyond.
Risks and challenges
Tasty Minstrel Games (TMG) has delivered numerous games throughout the world. Some that were funded on Kickstarter and some that were not. As an established small games company, the real question is making sure we manage potential sources of delay and communicating clear expectations throughout the campaign and after the funding ends.
TMG is a team of individuals that are managing all aspects of the business which has helped to mitigate all of the various risks and challenges.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
