Tasty Minstrel Games (TMG) was founded because, like you, we love good games. Lately we have been asking ourselves and others:
"What games do we love that are out of print and hard to share with those newer to the hobby?"
We are pleased to bring you, the much loved:
In an all new Emperor's Edition of the game! With Metal Coins and Big Plans...
Colosseum is a game about being a Roman magistrate charged with hosting a series of shows for the people and Roman nobles, with a chance that even the Emperor himself will visit your performance.
You'll earn wealth and prestige for the shows they host, using your rewards to perform greater and more elaborate spectacles than have ever been seen before.
You will need to manage your resources to improve your arenas, hire performers, contract scripts, and lure the Roman Nobility to your shows.
COLOSSEUM Emperors Edition will include:
The Metal Coins in the image above come from the Deluxe Edition of Orleans we Kickstarted last year. The coin designs for Colosseum are shown below, the size, colors, and exact details have not yet been finalized and is subject to change.
The first stretch goal that was unlocked introduces the layered Colosseums to the game. In the pictures on this page they are white mock ups from our manufacturer, but here is a 3d render of what they will look like when printed:
Our Second unlocked stretch goal resulted in Silk Screened Meeples, and now we will also be including a sticker sheet with alternate art for the meeples as well so you can choose the feel you want them to have on the board.
To keep things simple we are offering a single Reward Tier:
Also, to make sure that your game arrives to you in the best condition possible...
SHIPPING INFO :
EU - Friendly. We are shipping the games to a partner in France to distribute the games to EU backers.
CA - Friendly. We will be fulfilling all Canadian orders through Snakes and Lattes.
AU - Friendly. We have found a start up shipping group who will fulfill the games in Australia for us as well.
All other countries will be fulfilled from the USA. Most pledges do have a shipping fee that will automatically be added at the time of backing the game. We have tried to keep these shipping costs down, which has been hard given the final weight of the game.
For all pledges we ask that you please consider the shipping option put forward and how it may affect you with your nations postage laws and back accordingly.
Colosseum is won by the player who has the single highest scoring Event over the course of 5 rounds of play. [Points for each show are NOT cumulative]
Each of the 5 rounds will consist of 5 phases each, these phases are:
- Acquiring Event Asset Tokens
- Trading Event Asset Tokens
- Producing an Event
- Closing Ceremonies
In the Investing phase you may spend money to make a single upgrade to your show. These upgrades include new Event Programs, Arena Expansions, Season Tickets, and an Emperor's Loge.
During the Acquiring Event Asset Tokens phase you will bid against your fellow players from various offers of available Event Asset Tokens. For each active player selecting the Event Assets Tokens to be auctioned off you may win one auction. This is the designers preferred rule set that was previously known as the "Intense Auctions" variant.
The Trading Phase allows you to trade Event Asset Tokens with other players. You may also choose to not trade if you like the Tokens you have, or you may choose to sweeten the pot with money as well.
When you Produce An Event, you will first have a chance to move the Nobles around the board, trying to get them into, or closer to your colosseum. Then it's time to count Spectators that came to your Event, more Spectators equals more coin for you, and is your score for the round.
The Closing Ceremonies is the only phase that is not optional. Here the highest scoring player will receive a Podium that grants additional Spectators to future events, that player may also need to donate an Asset to the lowest scoring player as well. Any player that produced an event will also need to remove one of their performers from the game.
The game will end after 5 rounds of play, the winner being the player who had the single highest scoring Event during the course of the game.
If you would like to preview the rule book, you may do so HERE. There are no images yet, and the wording is not final, but this version does give a good idea of game play.
While I met with Wolfgang Kramer at Essen this past year he told me a little about the history of Colosseum.
"Colosseum was developed for the theme." Wolfgang explained. In it's infancy Markus Lübke had an idea of a game where players put on shows in an arena, he called it, "Spectacle". He had no rules to go with the game, just an idea.
Excited about making his game a reality Markus Lübke, found a publisher who after hearing the idea for Markus's game decided to put him in touch with Wolfgang Kramer. Wolfgang then got with Markus and the two of them together brought life to Markus's idea.
After a lot of work, Spectacle became the Colosseum that many of us have already grown to love.
THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR YOUR SUPPORT!!!
Risks and challenges
Tasty Minstrel Games (TMG) has delivered numerous games throughout the world. Some that were funded on Kickstarter and some that were not. As an established small games company, the real question is making sure we manage potential sources of delay and communicating clear expectations throughout the campaign and after the funding ends.
TMG is now a small team of 6 individuals that are managing all aspects of the business which has helped to mitigate all of the various risks and challenges.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
