About this project
So, have you ever wanted a tablet computer that you can adapt to your own needs? Film? Art? Graphic Design? How about open source so that all the software is free? Oh, and that uses the same processor as that commercially available tablet that starts with an I? Then Aspectus is just what you are looking for!
Aspectus is an open source, open hardware tablet computer running off of a customized version of the linux operating system. Some of its key features:
• Cortex A8 processor
• 512MB of ram
• up to 32GB of storage (flash based super fast storage!)
• 10.1" hi-res touch screen
• highly customizable linux operating system
• open hardware configuration
• 2GB of free online storage space
• Possible Internal 3G/ GSM internet
The idea for Aspectus was spawned by the need of a viewfinder for the apertus open source cinema camera (of which you can find here: http://cinema.elphel.com). So, after stumbling across that project, ideas began brewing in my mind of the endless possibilities of such a device. Not only could it be used for this project but for just about anything imaginable. The initial prototype is currently being made, but with your support, a finished tablet could be ready in just a matter of months. Money donated will go to the development of the tablet, testing, and revisions. Once complete all designs, software, parts lists, and documents will be released.
