Frequently Asked Questions
After exhaustive testing and research, we have determined that the yellow-green glow material offers the best overall brilliance, performance, and afterglow duration. This does not mean we won't develop products with other colors in the future but for now we're going with what we found works the best. Breakthroughs in the technology or discovery of different colored luminescent materials that perform adequately for the task may inspire us to expand the color palette in future iterations of the product.Last updated:
GlowaSwitch is eco-friendly because it will likely be installed and in use for many decades and not likely to be obsolete or tossed as garbage any time soon.
GlowaSwitch is an energy-saver because it features a dedicated foam seal that insulates wall switch holes from air leaks. Hot or cold airs enters and exits most buildings from the hole in the wall made for switches leading to energy inefficiency and higher energy bills. GlowaSwitch addresses that with a dedicated tailor-made foam gasket seal.
Unlike switch-finding solutions that use electricity to power a light bulb or LED, GlowaSwitch requires absolutely no electricity to work. Powered solutions often claim to use only a few cents of electricity per month, per switch, but multiply that by a few hundred, a few thousand, or tens of thousands of installations and the energy consumption becomes significant. You could deploy GlowaSwitch in every home and room in North America and the net power consumption would still be zero.
Not only does GlowaSwitch not require any energy to work, it helps save energy too! It's a rare win-win solution!Last updated:
Although you can theoretically install GlowaSwitch light switch plates anywhere as they do, at the very least, act like normal light switch plates (with the added bonus of a built-in, fire retardant, air draft insulation seal), the glow-in-the-dark function needs regular, periodic exposure to charging light to work.
Glow-in-the-dark photoluminescent materials are not directly powered by electricity and require regular, periodic exposure to natural daylight and/or artificial light to charge during the course of a typical day/evening so GlowaSwitch is least effective in rarely visited areas that see absolutely no light whatsoever for extended periods of time such as a windowless basement or closet. GlowaSwtich works great in frequented places that have windows and lights like most bedrooms, bathrooms, kitchens, living rooms, and hallways.Last updated:
Although you can theoretically use GlowaSwitch light switch plates with any standard toggle or rocker light switch, GlowaSwitch is intended for use with non-illuminated toggle or rocker light switches. That means it's not really meant to be used with switches that already have powered light bulbs or LEDs embedded within them if you care about the glow-in-the-dark function. A powered light source would cancel out and greatly reduce the effectiveness and visibility of the glow emitted by GlowaSwitch. Photoluminescent materials are non-powered emitters of light energy so they are best seen and most effective in near total darkness as strong ambient light affects your perception and can significantly overpower the glow effect.Last updated:
Yes, double gang versions of LUMINNO GlowaSwitch are in the future plans and product line roadmap. We introduced the single toggle and single rocker versions first to gauge initial interest and get valuable feedback. Depending on how things go, we do intend to eventually expand the offerings to include multiple gang versions and even families of products with different shapes and designs. The possibilities are vast and exciting so support us now at the early stages with your pledge and your opinions and you can expect many more great products to come! Your support and input is vital in shaping our future!Last updated:
No. GlowaSwitch is not a powered light so it will only emit a soft, pleasant glow when charged by conventional means such as normal daylight from a window or artificial room light from a light bulb or lamp. Having said that, GlowaSwitch's material supercharges and emits a strong glow after exposure to UV light in particular.
In normal everyday use, it will not be so bright as to distract you from sleeping. Its glow won't be visible with your eyes closed as the light it emits is not so powerful it's noticed through closed eyelids.
GlowaSwitch may seem especially bright in some photos but that's because it's difficult to photograph luminous products in the dark without needing to use long manual camera exposure times. The point of the product is not how glaringly bright it can get but whether or not it's bright enough to be visible in the dark, overnight. For its intended purpose it works wonderfully and its soft, pleasant glow can be seen in total darkness from a considerable distance.Last updated:
Yes we can, however, because there are many variables to printing, such as number of colors, etc. it's difficult to offer it in a crowdfunding format as a standardized reward. Quantities would also have to be large enough to justify set-up costs. We would have to quote such a request as a custom order so contact us to inquire about custom imprinting for your business or organization at: email@example.com.
People interact with light switches frequently, every day, so custom imprinting on a light switch plate would offer considerable visibility to get your brand and/or message seen and repeatedly reinforced in a unique and novel way. We can see hotels, motels, hospitality, insurance, real estate, and a wide spectrum of businesses and organizations, etc. using this as a marketing/messaging platform.Last updated:
