About

Baa'beel awards
Baa'beel awards

Baa'beel is a new, highly-interactive game, for two players, which involves building a fantasy city, controlling areas and the population within them. Compete with your opponent to build the best buildings in the most sought-after areas of the city and gain control by moving the inhabitants of your colour into them.

With a few simple rules and a high replayability, you can learn how to play in less than 5 minutes, and one minute later, you’ll be starting the game!

(vídeo guía en español - gameplay in spanish)

How do you build Baa'beel? The cards from the project deck will help you build the new city. Each card represents a project for a new building or a new zone in the city, which players take turns to go about building.

When one player adds a new project to the map, their opponent can choose any home which still has space available and move new inhabitants of their colour into it from their reserve. Orcs, humans, elves and dwarves have flocked to this area to settle down in the best homes the new city has to offer.

And although Baa'beel is a city based on harmony and peace, the new inhabitants won't let sleeping dogs lie. Every time somebody new comes to a home, one of the neighbours hates it and has to leave, as shown in the following diagram of eviction rules:

This means that when an orc moves into a new home, a human from one of the neighbouring houses will have to uproot. When a human moves in, an elf will move out. An elf forces a dwarf to up sticks, and a dwarf forces an orc out. The monsters, in their particular case, can make anybody pack their bags, but nobody can force them to move out. This will happen regardless of the colour of the races involved, so players need to be careful not to evict their own inhabitants!

In this way, control of the city and its neighbourhoods is constantly changing as players make decisions throughout the game.

How is the new governor of Baa'beel appointed? At the end of the game, each player who controls a house adds the points that home is worth to their points total. In addition, players can win points for a building when they control the most homes adjacent to it. The person with the most points will be proclaimed the new governor!

Below, we explain the main principles of the game in three easy steps. Once you’ve got this, you’re just about ready to start!

In Baa'beel, the main characters are the inhabitants. These are characters of different races who make up the population. Orcs, humans, elves and dwarves, with a few other undesirable characters thrown into the mix, have been the first races to answer the call of the Foundation Stone. Let’s learn a little bit more about them:

But remember, this has only just started. The call of the Foundation Stone continues to attract all kinds of beings. Help us to discover who will be next to pass through the huge City Gates!

Meridiano 6 is a young board game publisher from Spain which creates its own games. We like our games to have a quality finish and we try to take care of every detail, so that the playing experience is as enjoyable as possible for the players. Baa'beel is the fourth game we have published (the third one we aim to finance through a crowdfunding campaign). With this game, its authors, Manuel D. Cruz and Antonio J. Dionisio (Ars Universalis and Plus Ultra), have achieved several awards in prototype contests in Spain, giving recognition to several years in the making.

Illustrations are provided by Paco Dana (Plus Ultra, Aloha Pioha, Rookie Heroes...). His tremendous artistic talent can be seen on each Baa'beel playing card. You can see a few videos about the artistic design process here.

Risks and challenges

Previously, Meridiano 6 has carried out a number of successful crowdfunding campaigns. The aim of this publisher is to publish games with high quality features. This philosophy is reflected in Baa'beel, a game we have produced with great care and attention to detail. Meridiano 6 products are manufactured at Fabryka Kart/Trefl, manufacturers who stand out for their high-quality standards. The parts and material which make up the game are those the factory currently works with and are similar to those Meridiano 6 has used in publishing other games.
The artwork is 95% completed for the base game and all the stretch goals have been determined and are ready to enter the final artwork stage in the event that we are successful. As a result, there will be no delay in completing the material. The illustrator, as well as the layout and design team, has experience in the production of board games.
The greatest challenge is international shipping. However, we have the support of specialists in distribution to board game sponsors, so we are optimistic that there will be no issues in this regard. We have been very prudent with the delivery times so as not to incur delays in shipments.
