A (short) documentary about tiny houses, and people who find home in less than 400 square feet. Can living small go big?
What is home? And how do we find it? In this 2014 feature documentary, one couple's attempt to build a 'tiny house' with no construction experience raises questions about sustainability, good design and the changing American Dream.

Thanks for the updates! I'm very excited this will be a feature length documentary... I'm sure this has been and will be quite an adventure before everything is said and done! Have fun!

      Hi Conrad,

We are looking into pricing and discussing the possibilities for Blue-ray, but would love to offer an HD version of possible. Of course for everyone out there who doesn't have a Blu-ray player, we'll be sending out regular DVDs. Thanks for asking!

Is this going to be DVD or Blu-ray release... I would love a High Definition copy/download!

The trailer looks amazing -- you guys are obviously doing a fantastic job! I'm so happy I can be a small part of making it happen... and look forward to seeing the completed film and hopefully maybe get a glimpse of the house! My husband and I hope to someday too have a tiny home in the Colorado wilderness... so maybe we can be neighbors with Chris! :)

I'm working with a group of teenagers that are planning to build a tumbleweed style tiny house this summer. We can't wait to see this documentry.

      Hi Angela,

Thanks so much for your support of the project and congrats on your new tiny home! If you'd like to share any photos of your new house with us, feel free to email them to speakthunderfilms [at] We love seeing people's houses and are always gaining new ideas and inspiration from seeing how other people live in their own small spaces. Happy Thanksgiving to you!

I just moved into my own Tiny house in Hawaii 3 weeks ago. The short trailer for this film was very engaging, I look forward to seeing the whole thing. Part of the beauty of this movement I think is the passion it inspires in everyone involved in it, on all levels. The love, care and enthusiasm my builder put into my house was incredible.

And Shannon, thanks or your kinds words—we look forward to sharing the project with you!

Mark, thanks for the tip about People of Mountain Village. If we exceed our goal, we're hoping to use some of those funds to do some aerial shots of exactly what you describe—some of the large sprawling suburbs outside of Denver.

Alek, thanks so much for supporting and thank your family and Lauren too! (Christopher also says hi.) We'll def be in touch about ways to help out.

    32. Alek Hess on

This is a brilliant project! I grew up in Boulder, CO and currently live in Denver. I went to school with Lauren Callaway who originally turned me onto this through Facebook.

My younger brother Russ is in the CU film school and plans on becoming a backer as well. We'd love to lend a hand in anyway possible. The entire Hess family wishes you the best on making your goals and can't wait for the completed product!

It looks like a great project. I hope you can get some footage of the really massive houses out there and some aerials of the cookie-cutter, cul-de-sac nightmares. Also footage of the large trucks hauling lumber and quarried rock. Have you seen Lost People of Mountain Village? Highly recommend seeing it for the satire value of overbuilt places (upper Telluride). Looking forward to seeing the end project.

    34. Merete Mueller Creator on

Thanks Martijn and Emma! We're excited to share the film with you all. And Martjin—even though you can't make it to Colorado just yet, we'll be posting lots of video footage once the house is complete, to hopefully give you a virtual idea of what it's like to live inside. :)

    35. Martijn The on

      Inspiring stuff!
I would like to spend a weekend in the house, but taking a flight to US for just that...
