Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get Better. It's not. - The Lorax, Dr. Seuss
I love the ocean. It is a vital part of the world we live in both scientifically and culturally. I will go on a journey of exploration and discovery with the non-profit, Pangaea Explorations (http://www.panexplore.com/) and write an educational children's book about my experience and findings.
On the Pangaea boat the Sea Dragon, we will travel through the South Pacific to study the affects of plastic pollution, overfishing and toxic waste on marine ecosystems and the societies that depend on them. With the data, photographs and interviews I gain on this voyage I will write a children’s book. I hope to present this book along with other educational materials to youth to inspire and show what they can do to keep the oceans safe for generations to come.
The voyage with on the Sea Dragon will allow me to live out my passion for exploration and experience first hand what is going on in specific island communities and areas of the ocean. This will prove to be extremely important when I write the book to help fully understand what is happening and how local scientists are addressing these issues.
Your help will allow me to step foot on the boat as well as cover research expenses including pH and CO2 sensors, a trawl used to gather plastic samples and more. To make my dream come true I will need $8,500. I plan to personally cover the costs of airfare to Rarotonga and home from Hawaii. Your support in this lifelong dream of mine, whether financial or by simply spreading the word to others means the world to me.
