Support the film that shows exposing millions to mercury vapor thousands of times higher than safety limits is NOT harmless.

We did it !

Thank you to all of you who contributed ! Your generous pledges have enabled us to meet our Kickstarter fundraising goal !  Not only will we have the financial resources to finish the film, but your REWARDS are now guaranteed!

At this point, we have an additional 6 days left in our fundraising campaign. So, we are going to work hard at raising funds for our extended goals.

By raising over $60,000 we’ll be able to:
  • Hire a well-known actor to do the voice-over narration. This can also help the film gain additional exposure from name recognition.
  • A reality in today’s film market is to spend money in getting the film “out there.” So, we’re in need of funds to obtain a film rep and costs related to promotion and public relations, such as submitting to and attending film festivals. Some of the top documentaries you see in the theaters most likely made a splash on the festival circuit first.
  • We’ll work to get a secure a fair and just distribution deal. But if we can’t, then we’ll use any additional funds to pay for the costs related to the online distribution of the film.
Any help you can give us to get the word out about pledging to our film would be greatly appreciated. http://kck.st/RMJzz5 With humble gratitude, ®andall™ and Team Mercury Exposure

You Put What In My Mouth?

Our documentary follows the lives of 4 people as they struggle to inform the federal government, public and dentists of the extremely large amounts of mercury vapor and mercury contaminated particulate matter generated during the making, placement, polishing and removal of mercury "amalgam" dental fillings.

At great expense to their personal lives, the subjects of our film are desperately trying to alert public health officials that these acute and chronic toxic exposures to mercury have a potentially huge influence on the health of dental workers and the 120 million Americans who have dental "amalgam" mercury fillings, especially the tens of millions who fall into “at risk” categories.

How you can help now.

We need to raise an absolute minimum of $60,000 to complete filming and get us through post production. And we have only 30 days to raise the money – or we don’t get any of the money and all contributions are returned.

To help us deliver an engaging, emotional and professional film that will fairly present the many aspects of this issue, please:

1.      Contribute any amount you can. You’ll get our immense thanks and our thank-you Rewards (see right).

2.      Share this page with as many other people as possible. Put the link on your website, Facebook page or Twitter account. Or email your friends with a passionate plea.

3.      Go to the top of the page and click the Facebook "Like" button and Twitter button to share this page with those in your network. (If you don't have accounts at either, please sign up to start using your social media accounts.)

4.      Embed this Kickstarter campaign on your website or Facebook page – at least until we reach our goal. There’s a handy embed code underneath the video at the top of the page.

If you can do 1, 2, 3 or 4 of these things, we truly appreciate it.

Why we need your help now.

With the $60,000 you contribute in the 30 days, we’ll be able to accomplish so much.

This money will help us finish documenting the lives and struggles of our 4 lead characters through whom the story of the film will unfold. Each of these people live in different states, so a large portion of our expenses during production are travel related. But it’s important we hire talented people to ensure we have professional quality audio and video. The higher the quality, the more we can get our film shown and our message out.

After we complete filming, we’ll have many post-production costs to make a high-quality film, such as editing, color correction, sound design, voice-over narration, audio mix, original music score, closed captioning, translations and deliverables. The film will include a series of top-notch motion graphics that will explain some of the more complex aspects of this issue. Your generous contributions will pay for all of this.

Our extended goals

If we can raise more than $60,000 with your generosity, we’d be able to:

- Put a little more polish on the post-production of the film. This should help the documentary get into more film festivals and get more exposure.

- Hire a well-known actor to do the voice-over narration. This can also help the film gain additional exposure from name recognition.

- A reality in today’s film market is to spend money in getting the film “out there”. So, we’re in need of funds to obtain a film rep and costs related to promotion, such as submitting to and attending film festivals. Some of the top documentaries you see in the theaters most likely made a splash on the festival circuit.

- We’ll work to get a secure a fair and just distribution deal. But if we can’t, then we’ll use any additional funds to pay for the costs related to the online distribution of the film.

So if you're reading this and we've already attained our fundraising goal, please know that your contribution would go to great things and would be much appreciated.

More information about our film

I’m excited to finally be able to share details about our feature length documentary, “You Put What In My Mouth?”

But first, a little back-story....

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) classifies mercury vapor as a persistent, bio-accumulative toxin. Exposure to mercury vapor has been shown to cause or exacerbate over 30 various adverse health effects. These effects happen to mimic the symptoms of many known diseases.

The argument surrounding the safety of “silver” amalgam dental fillings, which contain roughly 50% elemental mercury, has always centered on the potential adverse health effects from the long term use of the product. But the one aspect that both the FDA and ADA refuse to acknowledge is the centerpiece of our film.

Huge toxic exposures during routine dental procedures that violate occupational safety regulations

Our film will explore why dentists are unaware of manufacturer warnings and the elevated exposures during these routine dental procedures. These toxic releases far exceed occupational safety regulations and levels at which The Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR) relocates individuals from residences.

Please re-read that last sentence to gain an understanding of why our subjects have devoted themselves to correct this enormous problem with serious implications to health. Each character in the film struggles to understand why our government and the ADA promote the safety of a product that releases mercury vapor at levels higher than all known safety levels.

It will be noted that most of the 170,000 dentists in this country who work with amalgams do not think exposure to dental mercury causes any harm what-so-ever. And why should they since they were taught in dental school that amalgams don't release mercury.

Thus the vast majority of dentists neglect to mention to patients and staff that amalgam fillings contain mercury. Also, since most dentists are adamant that amalgam fillings are totally safe, they do not know to divulge any adverse health effects that exposure to mercury may cause. This is the exact opposite of what occupational safety laws require.

Our lead characters advocate that withholding this required information robs staff and patients of the information that would enable them to make informed decisions regarding their health.

In addition to examining the devastating effects of dental mercury exposure to patients, staff, and the environment, the advocates in our film will highlight the many currently available solutions to reduce these toxic exposures.

This picture shows the personal protective equipment dentists and staff should be wearing, to meet occupational safety regulations, when working around large exposures to mercury.

Where we are at now.

While researching this subject for the last 2 years, I’ve interviewed officials from government agencies, members of Congress, eminent scientists, dentists, lawyers and both consumers and dental staff who have been injured from exposure to dental mercury..

Most importantly, I found 4 people with unique stories to share. Each has been affected by dental mercury exposure in his or her own way. And each has become an outspoken advocate on this issue.  During my research, I also honed in on the dramatic aspects of this issue and the individuals whom I could document in order to tell the most compelling story possible.

But in order to finish the film I need your help. Please contribute what you can today in order for us to finish the film and for you to obtain some awesome rewards. Remember, we only have 30 days to meet our funding goals, or we get nothing.

So why haven't you heard of this issue before ?

That too is going to be covered in the film. While dental schools teach nothing of how to protect oneself from mercury, those dentists who do find out about the toxicity of amalgam are hindered from sharing that information by way of the ADA's code of ethics, otherwise known as the "gag rule" which limits what a mercury free/safe dentists can say and do regarding amalgam. While the ADA continually argues for the sanctity of dentist / patient relationships, it is only from the pro-amalgam viewpoint.

Mercury free and mercury safe dentists are routinely hassled by state and local dental branches who have assumed the ADA's code of ethics. With looming fear of retribution most dentists who do know of this problem, say nothing. With that context, one can now easily see why a national Zogby poll indicated that 76% of respondents did not know that amalgam contained mercury.

To help people understand about mercury and the toxic vapors it releases, a few of the characters in the film have visualized something that has never been shown before. Since mercury vapor is colorless, odorless and invisible, they have visualized the shadow of the mercury vapor being released during the placement, polishing and removal of mercury dental fillings.

Above is a still from the "smoking tooth: video released by David Kennedy DDS of The International Academy of Oral Medicine and Toxicology. This picture shows mercury vapor being released from a 25 year old amalgam filling after being agitated.

This visualization is achieved by using the principles of atomic absorption. This will enable people to actually see the huge amounts of toxic mercury vapors emanating  from amalgam fillings during those routine dental procedures.

If this issue has touched your life in some way or you feel there is a need for this film to be made, please leave us comments on our Kickstarter page (comments tab at top of page).

This is an American project with worldwide consequences.
