Mercer Watch Co. is a small designer and producer of timepieces located in historic central New Jersey, USA. We strive to design and produce custom mechanical timepieces of the utmost quality for an affordable price. Our website and available watches can be seen at www.mercerwatch.com.
We have previously run three successful campaigns on Kickstarter. Today there are many watch projects on this platform to be sure. While most of them unfortunately fail to deliver a quality piece for a reasonable price - that's where we excel.
Our backers have played a large role in our success thus far - and now we're asking for your support once again. To date we have prepared designs, made case molds and built prototypes of the Brigadier chronograph. The next step is large scale production for sale and distribution - and for that we need your help.
The Brigadier Chronograph is our newest offering, and it carries the same brand DNA as our most successful model to date - the Brigadier. These watches were named after Brigadier General Hugh Mercer, a key player in the battles of Trenton and Princeton during the American Revolution. He was a doctor, a soldier and an accomplished leader - and he's also the namesake of the county where we reside.
The Brigadier line shares the same case, and is characterized by bold lines and the use of both polished and brushed steel surfaces. The total package is attractive and refined. The watch leans toward the dress end of the spectrum, however it can also function quite well dressed down for the weekend.
While the original Brigadier was a traditional three hand design powered by a Miyota automatic movement, the Brigadier Chronograph utilizes a hybrid mechanical/quartz movement from Seiko - called the VK64. This "Mecaquartz" movement employs a quartz module for precise time keeping and a mechanical function in order to control the chronograph. The end result is robust, reliable and affordable time keeper.
The Brigadier Chronograph case is made from 316L surgical steel and is 42mm in diameter and 11mm thick at its thickest point. The lug width is 22mm, and the lugs sweep back nicely to follow the contour of your wrist.
The dial of the Brigadier chronograph is multilayered and has a guilloched center section, just like its predecessor. This adds interest and gives the watch depth, which is a nice effect under the domed sapphire. It also has a date window at 6 o'clock so you can stop checking your iPhone to see what the date is.
The straps for the Brigadier Chrono are padded patent leather with a crocodile grain. The underside of the strap is made of nubuck, making for a soft feel and an incredibly comfortable wear. Strap color will vary with each model, but come in blue, brown and black.
As you see below, we are opening this Kickstarter with 4 color combinations of the Brigadier Chrono. Here is the breakdown of what will be available to you at the conclusion of this campaign.
1. White dial with rose gold case and brown leather strap
2. Navy blue dial with steel case and navy leather strap
3. White dial with steel case and brown leather strap
4. Slate grey dial with silver counters (a reverse panda pattern), steel case and black leather strap
*NOTE: you will be able to select your preferred color at the end of the campaign.

We have recently added in stretch goals to allow our backers more choice and to increase the value of your pledge even further assuming we hit certain pre-determined goals.
Our first stretch goal, reached at $35,000, will allow all backers to choose the color of their strap for the Brigadier Chronograph. Choices will be made after the conclusion of the campaign.
The second stretch goal for this campaign adds in another dial color - one that we call Sand. Its a sand/coffee color that works quite nicely on this piece. If the campaign hits $55,000 you will be able to choose this color.
Assuming we meet our goals during the campaign we anticipate a delivery in June. Here are the specifics.
Q. How do we choose the color of the watch/strap we want?
A. After the campaign concludes backers will receive surveys in order to allow them to select their watch and provide a shipping address.
Q. How accurate is the VK64 movement?
A. The Seiko VK64 is accurate to within 20 seconds per month. The SR936SW silver oxide battery will last 3 years with normal use.
Q. What is the warranty on the watch?
A. We want you to feel good about your purchase, so every Mercer Watch comes with a limited 1 year warranty.
Q. What is the shipping like for those outside of the USA?
A. We ship worldwide. but take note that you may be responsible for duties, fees and/or taxes depending on where you live and the customs policies in your country.
Q. What will the cost of the watch be after the campaign?
A. The Brigadier chronograph will retail for $329 after our Kickstarter campaign ends.
Risks and challenges
Our risks and challenges are the same as others with product-based Kickstarter campaigns - namely, production delays. We do not anticipate delays beyond our timeline above, but there are no guarantees in life and so it is possible that something unanticipated could occur during production.
If something were to happen, rest assured that we would keep our Kickstarter community appraised of the situation.
