Pacha's Pajamas is a fantastic new ecosystem of physical and digital products that make learning a playful family experience. Produced by "healthy entertainment" producer, BALANCE Edutainment, Pacha's Pajamas is leading a wave of inspirational children's stories that are changing the world! This is a story about a little girl on dreamtime adventures whose companion characters come alive right off of her magical pajamas. The story has already won 9 awards, attracted top celebrities and is impacting 100k children around the world. Several products have already been developed: the first book in the series, augmented pajamas, and several award-winning musical storytelling albums.
Our NEED now is to build a community of on-going supporters who see the full potential of what we're doing and will wear this wonderful story right on their sleeves. Building with this community, we aim to bring the animated Pacha's Pajamas series to television or video on demand!

Pachamas are Organic, Fair Trade pajamas that work alongside an awesome augmented reality (AR) app and companion book! The AR app brings characters to life when you position a mobile device over them. The AR app also works with the companion book, the soundtrack and the Youth Leader card game, which features Pacha. The interactive elements connect families with the latest wave of good work being done in our communities by people of all ages. Our product portfolio works together to boost self-awareness, ignite the imagination, and reconnect kids with Nature!

It is important that you know the pajamas will not be delivered until April 2015. As you may imagine, it takes time to set up the manufacturing process for organic cotton, fair trade pajamas. We have to select a top quality supplier, finish all the samples, test them, make any adjustments, send the order, have them manufactured and then finally sent to us for shipping. All in all, it will take about 4 months. That being said, we will send an augmented reality enabled Gift Certificate to the recipient of the pajamas to arrive by Dec 24th. The company founders, Aaron Ableman & Dave Room, have been working/dancing their way across the Americas, promoting the campaign with concerts, flashmobs and meetings in parks, schools, children's hospitals or wherever the wind blows. Recently, they showed some parents and kids the App over the album and everyone thought it was a magic trick... One of the mother's yelled with jubilation: "Let's have a pajama party!" Augmented Reality or AR is a technology that superimposes a computer-generated image on a user's view of the real world, thus providing a composite view. In other words, AR is a live direct or indirect view of a physical, real-world environment whose elements are augmented (or supplemented) by computer-generated sensory input such as sound, video, graphics or GPS data. As a result, the technology functions by enhancing one’s current perception of reality
AR is all around us (e.g., the weather reports, the first down markers in NFL broadcasts) and it’s been helping Hollywood storytellers tell stories about the future for a long time. If you have watched some Hollywood Sci-Fi movies like Iron Man 2, the 6th Day and Minority Report, you have probably seen how our world may look 20-30 years from now. Who knows when augmented applications become mainstream but they are already making their way to smart devices. Augmented reality is the future but thanks to these augmented reality apps such as Aurasma, you can experience the future today.
Today’s kids are considered digital natives, growing up with unprecedented access to media, through a multitude of devices that keep them glued to screens an average of 7 hours per day. Much of what they experience is vapid if not violent, misogynistic, glorifying consumption and addiction. In 75 percent of the TV programs shown during hours when American children are most likely to be watching, the hero either kills people or beats them up. We now know everything we experience rewires our brains. Hence, parents realize that much of this screen time (and pop music) can be detrimental for their kids.

Pacha’s Pajamas, the Company’ flagship property, is for empowering girls and raising more conscious boys. Pacha is a little girl whose pajamas whisk her off to imaginary worlds where she discovers her true self. When wakes, she uses what she’s learned to bring her dreams into reality.
Pacha's imagination is bigger than the Andes Mountains, homeland of her ancestors. After a stress-induced asthma attack, her magical pajamas carry her into an epic dream where she's the central player at a nature festival. Full of musical plants and dancing animals, the event is a worldwide call-to-action to save the planet from destruction. Through the dream experience, Pacha awakens with the skills needed to stay healthy and better understand who she truly is.
Pacha's Pajamas teaches kids that they are deeply connected to nature and one another, they have everything they need within themselves and they can create the world they want to live in.
One of Pacha's main messages is that we are ALL connected!
We will use the funds to produce our first PJs line. Our goal is at least 100 pair of PJs. We will also use the funds to do a print of the book.
+$10,000 will enable us to make the chapter book comply to the Common Core Standards and Next Generation Science Standards.
+$100,000 will enable us to white label our own Aurasma-based augmented reality app

Risks and challenges
We have already created a working prototype of the pajamas and the book, and tested them with the Aurasma Augmented Reality (AR) App. So we know that the AR works. There is the risk that the AR does not work as well on the final pajamas.
The most prominent risk is that AR is new in children's entertainment and education. While AR has been used by weather reports, professional sports broadcasting and futuristic movies, it is just now in the last several years become available on smart devices and we cannot predict the extent to which it will be adopted in children's entertainment.
Our experience with augmenting the Youth Leader card deck suggests that kids will absolutely love AR.
As with any technology, there is the risk that it could be perceived as having negative effects and in this case that would be encouraging kids to spend even more time on screens. We would not be surprised if some segments of the parenting community levy this argument and we would not argue against this possibility.
BALANCE, however, is committed to kids spending more time in mindful real life activities. BALANCE designs it's product set in a balanced way that utilizes the latest advances in technology to spark interest in important topics for their development (e.g., connection to nature, the food we eat) and provides many avenues for kids to have real world experiences. There is always a first step in an exploration. BALANCE aims to be the first step in explorations that support the healthy development of today's kids by for example build self-esteem, develop empathy and encourage kids to create the world they want to live in.
Another challenge is for a startup entertainment technology firm to start an apparel line. Selling pajamas is certainly different than selling books, music, and apps. To mitigate this risk, we are working with Dhana, Inc., the producer of Dhana EcoKids, the first children's organic, fair trade apparel line.
