WHO AM I?
Hi! I'm Melanie.
I'm a twenty year old singer-songwriter based in the Lake District, UK. I like writing sad songs disguised as indie-folk/pop ballads. I have been writing my own material and gigging over the last four years, trying to convince myself that I can do this music thing as my full-time job. If I had a penny for every time someone asked me when I'm going to go and study for a "proper" job then I probably wouldn't need to be doing this Kickstarter...
WHAT IS THIS PROJECT?
I'm making a new record! This year I'm going to be recording another EP / mini album. I haven't quite decided on the number of tracks yet but you can definitely expect five or more songs...If you have been following me for a while then you'll know that I released a home-recorded EP last year called "Dreamer" which I am still very proud of. I invested a lot of my personal savings into the 'Dreamer' EP but ultimately I made a few rookie mistakes and lost out on a lot. This time around I have no money but a lot more wisdom in regards to where money is most beneficial which is why I need YOUR help.
WHERE IS MY MONEY GOING?
I want to be 100% transparent and honest about where your money is going so I put together a little pie chart (technically a pie heart) so you can see exactly how I will be spending it! Most of it is going towards making the actual music so paying my incredible musicians, production costs, mixing, mastering, studio time etc.
WHAT DO I GET IN RETURN?
I would never ask for money without the intention of giving something back. So that's why I have a variety of different 'rewards' in return for your support. For the first time ever I have been designing merch (including writing a very small and very exclusive book all about the stories behind my songs and processes!) and for anyone crazy enough to want me to sing at their actual house then here's your chance!
Risks and challenges
As an independent artist I have to fund everything I do whilst still trying to make money (it feels impossible at times). I want to be able to offer you tangible, physical things in return for your generous support.
Trying to raise £5,000 in only 30 DAYS is terrifying to me. And because of Kickstarter's "All or Nothing" rule if I don't make the full amount, I don't get anything. So whatever you can give, I will be immensely grateful.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
