Our food truck is expanding to a restaurant featuring locally sourced Chinese-American food. Our goal: sustainable certification.

Hi everyone! We are the sibling trio behind the Boston food truck Mei Mei Street Kitchen. We're beyond excited to take our truck to another level by opening a restaurant in the Audubon Circle neighborhood of Boston, near Kenmore Square and Boston University. We’re in the process of building the restaurant right now and hope that you’ll join in our Kickstarter campaign in exchange for fun rewards. Our Project - With our own brick & mortar location, we'll be able to expand our menu, feed people year-round (tough on a Boston food truck!) and minimize our energy usage and food waste. We’ve raised almost all the money we need to get the restaurant up and running, but we’re not quite there. We're doing this campaign to make our restaurant as green as possible and achieve certification as a Sustainable Business Leader by the Sustainable Business Network. Funds raised will go to environmentally-friendly improvements such as:

  • Energy-efficient lighting, infrastructure & kitchen equipment (the big ones)
  • Low-flow plumbing
  • Compost and recycling programs 
  • Reclaimed materials for our floors, walls and counters 
  • Solar shades & insulation
  • A mini herb garden!

We're also going to cook much more exciting food on a larger scale once we have our own kitchen. Some of the money will go to kitchen equipment we wouldn't otherwise be able to afford, like a smoker to make more bacon for cheddar biscuit sandwiches and curry-lime hollandaise Eggs Benedict. We’ll need a good convection oven to make French macarons, a commercial steamer for handmade dumplings and buns, and more fun kitchen toys to blow your mind with deliciousness.

Since opening in April 2012, we’ve served our creative, locally sourced Chinese-American street food around the City of Boston and beyond. We’ve got a diverse and always rotating menu - fun meat items like pig’s head spring rolls and handmade braised beef dumplings share menu space with vegetarian favorites like our organic Magical Kale Salad and the Double Awesome – but all these dishes reflect our commitment to local sourcing and sustainability. If you want to read more about us, we've been featured in the Boston Globe, the Boston PhoenixEdible Boston, and more. We even won a Best of Boston award for the city's Best Meal on Wheels 2012 from Boston Magazine and a Greenovate award for sustainable food leadership from the City of Boston.

We aim to serve lunch, dinner and late night food at the restaurant and will also use the space as a commissary kitchen for our food truck. In the future we hope to add brunch and a beer and wine license focused on new England craft beers, ciders and wines. We also plan to partner with many of our local farmer, brewer, butcher, food justice friends to plan events, educational programs and kickass parties. Risks and challenges Learn about accountability on Kickstarter

Opening a restaurant always comes with challenges - delays in construction, holdups with permits and licensing, unexpected building issues, and so on and so forth. We've already begun construction with an experienced contractor so we hope to avoid many of these issues. No matter what happens, we are committed to getting this restaurant open. After all, we've signed a lease, we have rent to pay, and we've got people to feed! Should any of these issues arise, we will commit our full attention and efforts to getting them resolved. We feel very lucky to be part of a very supportive and helpful community of people who love and care about food here in Boston. With their assistance and advice, we feel confident that, in time, we will be able to solve any problems we face.
