What is Choreo?
Choreo is a 2D Musical Platformer set in a vibrant world with a Lovecraftian foundation. We've drawn inspiration from early Disney cartoons, Aztec and Mayan culture and the Cthulu Mythos to create a world that has a colourful and bright surface, with dark and twisted roots.
Inspired by platformers such as Rayman Origins, and the Super Mario series, we aim to create and engaging, smooth game-play experience with stunning visuals and depth.
Centuries ago, five beings rose up to overthrow a tyrannical Elder Being and seal its evil away where it could no longer influence the world around it. As civilisation developed under the Fives rule, the world slowly forgot about the threat of the entity, and the last remnants of its empire have turned to dust. Now, a group of cultists succeed in awakening this darkness from its slumber, drawing it back into the world in a new form. It's gleaming smile belies its dark intentions, and the entity sets out towards the Fives stronghold, determined to reclaim its empire, and make the world that forgot its rule tremble.
Dynamic Music System:
Choreo incorporates a dynamic music system that develops the main score as you attract more followers. At the start of each level you will only have access to a simple guitar track, giving you a basic ambient score. Each Follower you collect brings more instruments to the track, eventually giving you access to the full theme at around the mid point of the level. The idea is that as the intensity of the level increases, so too will the music, and finding those additional instruments provides extra incentive to explore.
Composed By Richard Evans - www.rb-evans.com
We want to evoke the sense that music is an extension of Choreo, that through it, he is in control of his environment, and as such plan to implement a variety of powers and skills directly related to the music of the game. These will range from manipulation of your followers, to altering environmental structures and more!
Simple Guitar Track from the start of the Level:
Full band track once followers are collected:
Don't miss out on the chance to grab the full soundtrack in our backing options!
Engaging 2D Platforming :
Combining our own experiences as players with engaging genre tropes, we've aimed to create a visually impressive, enjoyable experience that will introduce you to our world, and some of the characters that inhabit it. We've drawn our inspirations from a deep catalogue of games we've enjoyed over the years, particularly looking at more recent titles such as Rayman Origins / Legends, Shovel Knight, and more to see what people enjoy, and what makes a platformer feel fluid and responsive.
Vibrant Hand Drawn Art and Characters:
Every asset in game has been hand-drawn by our artist, each created lovingly during the development process, and we think the quality speaks for itself. We want to expand the world of Choreo to feature a multitude of environments, enemies and characters, each beautifully detailed and animated to bring the game alive for players.
Final Product Goals:
Our aim is to create around 20 levels for Choreo, featuring 4 distinct sections of the city:
- The City Outskirts
- The Slums
- The Temple Gardens
- The Great Forge
with an arena for the final boss encounter:
- The Seat Of The Five
Each Biome would contain 4 levels, a mini boss, and a member of the Five as an end of section boss, as well as unique enemies and followers designed to organically fit with the stage.
As the game progresses, we will introduce new mechanics and ways of manipulating both your followers, enemies and the environment, gradually increasing the difficulty of the game through puzzles and more complex enemy encounters.
- Phase changes for followers, e.g. turn to stone, set on fire.
- Using Followers as weapons.
- Grappling hook using physics themed around Loco's decaying body.
- The ability to turn enemies into followers.
- Manipulating Terrain using shock waves.
and many more.
Each stage would contain hand drawn art as well as brand new music composed specifically for Choreo.
Should we manage to exceed our goal, here's some of the awesome stuff you can expect to be added to the game!
Nick Pritchard (26, Likes Cookies): A Film and TV Production graduate, Nick's always had a deep interest in Video Games and their design, though he hadn't taken the leap into the coding world till recently. He's been working hard to improve his coding knowledge in order to keep up with "The Artist" and is determined to make Loco the awesome game he knows it can be.
Favourite Games: Legend of Dragoon, Castlevania, Heavenly Sword, Resident Evil 7, Little Nightmares
Favourite Movies/TV: Cloverfield, Saw, The Strangers
"The Artist" (25, Enjoys long walks by the computer): Mysterious and perplexing, The Artist has honed his skills over the years hiding in the shadows, to be able to produce the amazing game art you see in Choreo. Having studied computer animation at University, his passions collided with Nick at their previous job, and together they formed Mega Sloth.
Favourite Games: Pokemon, Space Invaders, Tetris, Binding Of Isaac
Favourite Movies/TV: One Punch Man, Akira, Fanatsia

Risks and challenges
For any game in development, the creation process is notoriously tricky, and rarely runs completely smoothly. We are doing everything in our power to ensure that the final product meets expectations and provides a clean, and technically fluid experience for everyone involved.
With every new build of the demo we've published so far, we have actively listened to feedback from players to improve the game and to resolve any bugs that occur. If the Kickstarter is successful, we may look at bringing on board an experienced developer to make sure that the final build is robust and runs as smoothly as a modern game should.
The main challenge we face as a small 2 man team is the amount of development and game art required to complete our vision of Choreo. We both have careers outside of the game which we need to survive, but are dedicated to making Choreo into the great game that we know it can be.
We have thought long and hard about how we plan to develop the game, and with a realistic and achievable road map for the future, we feel confident that we can deliver the game that you deserve. If funding is successful we may look at bringing on a small number of additional hands to ensure that we can complete the project to a high standard and on time.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
