Greetings and salutations! I am Random, better known as Mega Ran, and I make music... about my loves, like video games.
Three years ago, I resigned from my career as a teacher in order to put my full effort into making music, and it's been an unreal ride ever since.
Time to take it to another level. To the Land of the Rising Sun. To Japan.
This campaign has more levels than Super Meat Boy. DJ DN3 and myself have booked a two-week tour through Tokyo, Kyoto and Osaka. We will be performing alongside some of the greatest chiptune musicians in the world, amazing game creators and cover artists, including the composers of STREET FIGHTER 4, STREETS OF RAGE 3 and APE ESCAPE! All of it is lined up to be captured in 4k resolution video for a Blu-ray documentary. Now we just have to fund the trip. I'm no stranger to touring overseas straight punk rock style, so this should be fun.
Above, Daikanyama M Opening Night and Sabaco Finale video interviews with game composers Aliceffekt and Motohiro Kawashima.
Live Game Boy remixes with NNNNNNNNNN and DJ Master Kohta at 1H1D!!! vol.31, Cafe la Siesta, Kyoto.

Of course tour and production costs add up, so I'm counting on you, Kickstarter backers, to help make history!
Here's a visual aid for the project costs, starting with roundtrip airfare ($2,500), studio costs ($1,800) and disc manufacturing ($1,500) for our intended CD, Blu-ray and vinyl releases, as well as booking venues in Tokyo ($1,000), equipment rental and travel.
Crowdfunding through Kickstarter has allowed myself and my producers to manage the risks involved in producing ambitious multimedia projects on a manageable scale.
This project is sharing with backers innovative game-inspired music and hip-hop from passionate composers, arrangers and performers. This amazing opportunity requires the support of backers in order to meet the production requirements of an international, independently funded collaboration.
Backing this project will lead to some amazing perks:
- A Mega Ran Remix album with songs re-imagined by chiptune artists
- A Blu-Ray disc featuring concert and interview footage
- Custom cover songs and freestyle shootouts for our supporters
- Limited edition music albums exclusive to Japan
- Tickets to special events in Tokyo
- AND STRETCH GOALS including new collaborations, vinyl, special limited releases, first looks at my other monthly releases and making-of featurettes with prominent indie game creators
So to make this happen, we need AT MINIMUM a total of $10,000. And as you may know, if we don't get that, we get nothing. So it's Japan or Bust!
If we DO make that goal, we'll be adding stretch goals to commend your generosity. As an added incentive: I'll give my new Castlevania album Nocturnal Cantata to all backers pledging $20 and over, instantly! Have it already? You'll also get the instrumental tracks or any other album you might be missing.
Thank you so much for your support! Arigatou!

Risks and challenges Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
We have done extensive preparation to overcome the challenges of booking venues to perform together with our tour partners in Japan. Any unforeseen setbacks to the remix album and documentary are ready to be tackled by our extensive team of musicians, translators and videographers dedicated to making the Mega Ran Japan Tour a success.
The Tour EP consists of about half the material of the LP. It will mainly be tunes by the remix artists, with vocal tracks by me, the full EP will contain new mixes of older tracks, as well as several new recordings over Mega Man remixes by the tour collaborators, double the music, double the fun!
Correct. since the dates were closing in on us, we had to make the purchase of plane tickets, lodging and travel in Japan, leaving us DANGEROUSLY broke, which is why we need to recoup those costs on Kickstarter!
m4v files? I don't want to watch a documentary on my mobile device. Can I watch on my laptop/desktop?
YES. M4V files are totally usable at home or on the go.
YES! All backers over $125 get the custom USB drive full of goodies and music from each tour artist now! *other changes will be here so keep an eye out*
I've also added CUSTOM SONGS to the $500 Level.
Just message me and we'll work something out. I'm sure I can do what I can to make you happy. Thank you!
