Megacorp is a card game about business, set in the dark, cyberpunk post-capitalist era of mankind's colonization of the galaxy. Most of humanity (The CORP) have been incorporated, made cyborg by nanoblood with shares in their very person traded on the stock market. Others, the INCARNATES have embraced trans-humanism through genetic augmentation and finally the religious GNOST have held on to unspoiled humanity but congregate around psionically empowered shepherds.
Players take the role of corporations controlled by indomitable founders from three factions. Test your commercial acumen and challenge your friends business skills in a fun, dynamic game where assets change hands and the boardroom takes to the battlefield!

A fully detailed Wikia with all card details was created by our team here
An detailed explanation on how much we are raising and why:
The primary goal allows us to produce the most basic version of the game (Four starter decks in a LCG or Living Card Game format) and that's it!
We have taken 4 years of self-funded development to fine-tune the game for competitive play. The artwork, lore and rules for the basic version of the game is essentially complete and we can send it to you as soon as the basic funding goal is achieved.
Economy of scale is achieved- we can print and assemble booster packs and boxes. With Boosters, several modes of organised play can be initiated including draft, sanctioned tournaments and more.
This is an important milestone as it also allows us to seek more efficient channels of distribution and fulfillment for the game.
We will be able to add over a hundred new cards into the game including 4 more founders. This stretch goal also unlocks booster pack rewards!
While most of the world outsources to our region, we HAVE direct access to friends, neighbours and colleagues in the tech vertical - and are able to turn Megacorp into a mobile game! Using the unity engine for iOS and Android.
Megacorp was designed and envisioned as a Trading Card Game, however we created this campaign with the aim of getting the core product offering to our supporters as quickly as possible, hence a low, achieveable target. $11,000 USD is the minimum viable funding amount to have the 4 starter packs sent to funders in quick order (Which functions effectively as a pre-set card game).
By the 23rd century,
corporate entities had taken over after the failure of traditional government. Mankind was faced with massive challenges: overpopulation, epidemics, economic chaos, and climatic change culminating into what seemed to be an inevitable extinction event. The end of mankind was nigh.
And then the impossible happened—a technological singularity gave birth to the first intelligent machines. But instead of enslaving or uplifting humanity, they simply left. But not without a gift: the first feasible interstellar spacecraft design.
Twenty-three habitable planets were identified, and hordes of 'less desirables' and non-corp citizens were desperately shepherded into huge ark ships set to colonize their destinations, set adrift for hundreds of years of cold sleep. Earth was thought to be a lost cause.
Now in the 90th century,
thousands of years after the exodus, mankind had developed faster than light travel. One of the original intended twenty-three colonies, on a planet known as P4-11, was rediscovered. The Incarnates and Corp, the two modern factions of humanity, decided to observe and not make first contact until the time was right.
The denizens of P4-11 were manipulated by the original crew of their ark into thinking that their planet was the original Earth, and they called their world Gaia. Sadly, within a mere several centuries, the population of Gaia had repeated some of humanity's greatest mistakes: two large superpowers hailing from the eastern and western continents were steeped in a world war. The Western allies invented the bomb.
An atomic bomb was dropped on the Easterners’ greatest aircraft carrier group. And just like their forebears, the destructive power of this odious weapon was underestimated. The naval superiority of the East was wiped out, but not without creating tidal waves that took the lives of 350,000 civilians.
Desperate, the leader of the East, the Emperor of the Han, cried out to what he perceived as a God, a being who was in fact a powerful representative of the genetically enhanced Incarnates, masquerading as a supernatural entity, which was in itself an act that circumvented the non-interference pact.
The Incarnate gave the Emperor a deal that would change the destiny of Gaia forever. If the Emperor wanted to save his people, he must wed his precious only daughter to the Incarnate Observer's son, so that their bloodlines would merge along with their political affiliation. The East and all its member nations would forevermore be part of the Incarnate Collective.
The deal was struck.
Screaming monsters burned out of the sky to descend upon the Western armies. Tentacled horrors ripped apart tanks. Winged terrors besieged battleships. The western soldiers fled, confused and terrified. Was this the end of the world? Similarly, the Easterners looked to the multitude of organic ships descending on the imperial capital. The Emperor must have made a pact with demons.
In the Presidential compound, a strange, well-manicured man strode into the oval office of the Western leader. Amazed by both his eloquence and the ability to bypass the heavy wartime security, the President of Brittanica, head of the joint combined allied forces, parlayed with this strange character.
He had silver filaments beneath his skin and spoke every language of every allied country without the need of a translator. The stranger opened his case and placed a series of outlandish items on the desk, naming them as he did: a mass driver, a rail gun, thermobaric ammunition, and more. They were powerful weapons to even the odds with the Easterners. "All these technologies will be yours," he said. "For a price"
And that price was dear indeed, for the stranger was the Corp Observer, and he wanted a 40% stake of the entire west, once it was incorporated in the new order.
Thus, both the ultra-capitalistic Corp and Darwinistic Incarnates intervened in the Gaian World War. The Gnost, comprising mostly of the poor and highly religious, waited.
Eventually, both sides called a truce. Any further escalation was both unproductive and unprofitable. The stalemate would result in a unique political situation in galactic history: never before had a colony been reclaimed by TWO major factions of humanity at the same time.
Both space-faring powers and the terrestrial superpowers drew out a charter. The East would remain Incarnate and embrace its ways, the West would Corporatize.
However, a huge landmass in the middle of an ocean that separated both East and West continents, was disputed. It was as big as Australia on old Earth and was pock-marked with the scars of war, a permanent no-man's land. Any power that set up infrastructure on it would reap manifold trade route benefits as well as inherit an incredibly valuable strategic staging point, as it was in the war. Neither side wanted to go back to armed conflict. Instead, the greatest diplomatic experiment in the galaxy was created: the island, Aohu, would become an independent nation and a specially administered free economic zone, exempt from all partisan compliance.
Entrepreneurs from every corner of the galaxy are now clamoring to innovate, validate, and disrupt this fantastic frontier.
You, the player, are among these intrepid founders venturing into the business arena of Aohu and Gaia. Will you carve your name into the annals of history and be part of the fledgling nation's transformation from third world to first?
A new economy, albeit one encompassing an entire planet, is an incredibly exhilarating opportunity.
Even the humblest startup has potential to become Gaia's first MEGACORP.
But remember. Fundamentally,
The story behind the story
Megacorp was created and designed by Mark G. Koh, a serial tech founder with a lifelong love of card games and business. Growing up in Singapore, southeast asia, Mark discovered tabletop games at an early age of 8- beginning with Advanced Dungeons and dragons. He wished to become a science fiction writer but lamented the huge disadvantage being born in an environment that neither the English medium or the genre would create a success. He subsequently gained a sideline as a ghostwriter for a decade, and 20 years later, Megacorp was conceived.
Mark has visited USA 2 times prior to Gencon 2016 -
Representing SafeChats, a ultra secure communication startup, he beat 26 teams and won the Mobile Challenge Asia Pacific competition in East Meets West Honolulu Hawaii, representing all of Asia in the world championship in Barcelona (Mobile World Congress 2016)
Was invited as a member of the ONLY non-American team to be part of Bluestartups (top 20 silicon valley accelerator) in their seventh Cohort.
The story and game was designed over the course of 4 years, with thousands of hours intensive play-testing sessions on 4 continents.
Volunteers and contributors to the testing sessions include former World Yugioh champion Oscar Renderos, FOW exponents Alex Blandin, Antyn Vejil, Michael Basa and singapore-based legend of the five rings pioneer Nicholas Tan.
The mathematical basis of the card distribution in the starter decks were calculated via multivariate hypergeometric distribution to ensure balance, using the variables of valuation, trait strength and secondary costs.
Why is Megacorp a superior game?
For players- Intuitive adaptations to existing TCG conventions and innovations to the genre are brought to fore:
- Designed with Competitive players in mind - highly scalable in terms of difficulty
- No hand size limit
- Cards can engage, attack and use abilities the turn that they are deployed
- Characters can attack any kind of card, eliminating removal bottlenecks
- Dedicated resource deck (no more 'mana screw')
- Defeated cards enter a "open market" pile, from which any player can make purchases - effectively allowing players access to each others' cards.
- Abundant card advantage mechanics
- Flexibility for players to ramp up a large network quickly, or play conservatively - almost infinite variety of play styles
For Retailers, Megacorp was designed to maximize investment into the game for your store
- Niche: No business-themed game has been released in the TCG segment
- Native language support - Megacorp was designed in English, even the creator made the game in English, removing translation delays/erratas.
- Trackable promo cards
- In-game currency that can be used for player redeemable store credit (please contact us for more details)
- Organised play strategy includes taking into account odd numbers of players and special format (RAID) for judges to participate in the fun
Many TCGs, LCGs and CCGs have a 'commander' type card. The element of a founder in MEGACORP is more in line with the real-life concept of a company founder... think about the likes of Steve Jobs, Jack Ma or Elon Musk- visionaries who started real world Megacorps and prevailed with sheer force of will, grit, wit and sometimes opportunity.
The players of Megacorp are in fact, not taking the role of the founders, but of the entire business. Each game begins with a player deploying their business and their founder cards into play for free. While founders can be destroyed, the business goes on, just like in real life. Founders are not the avatars of the business, the business card represents the business legal entity itself. However, when the business itself is destroyed, bought or orphaned (left with no cards docked to it at the end of a players own turn), the game is lost.
Founders do give unique benefits to gameplay and can provide a great thematic dimension. In this first set, Megacorp features 4 starter deck exclusive founders. And if the booster pack stretch goal is unlocked, four MORE founders will be revealed!
"One more thing I am proud of is also Megacorp's resource system:
Firstly the element of risk and potential for over extending oneself fits in well with the Business theme; The player's money and life total is one and the same. Players lose the game at the end of any turn if they do not return to a positive money total (call it a bank account balance if you will). This provides an interesting consideration for players as they deploy assets and events, depending if they want to ramp into a larger board state or play defensively.
The resource system was fine tuned to deliver a much superior player experience- every deployed card can be utilized to generate trait resource (Either IQ, EQ, MQ or BQ to pay for the secondary costs of cards besides money), with the main business card acting as the ultimate 'mana fix', as it is able to generate 10 of any of the trait resources, at the risk of being engaged; i.e.: not able to block and vulnerable to be bought by an opponent.
The passive Cashflow mechanic allows players to gain money without manipulating any cards: the majority of cards with the cashflow ability are consumers, which are characters that can be augmented, destroyed or used as attackers too.
A dedicated secondary deck provides players with not only money generating mechanic not only an abundance of characters that can become threats (e.g.: Consumers) - allowing players reprieve from being 'mana screwed' or 'flooding land'. This lessens the randomness of losing via resource bottlenecks and puts the fun back into the game. The fusion of money generation with characters in the form of consumer cards means a more equitable play experience. Ultimately, this leads to less need to mulligan. This leads to more quality game time, shorter tournament rounds and happier players.
Truly the flexible design of the game is meant to present the player with the maximum number of play style options with the minimum number of cards under control. And lastly, playing against others will be fascinating affair - as the dynamics that comes with playing with varied opponent's cards contributes to an exploratory dimension."

Lead by our senior Artist Christy Then (Tabi Studio), the Megacorp art team is comprised of passionate manga, anime and game fans based in Southeast Asia. 20% of the profit from the MEGACORP's campaign Will directly benefit these artists, allowing them a financial stake in the development of the game, and creating more jobs in the creative vertical in Indonesia, China and Singapore.
Being distinctively inspired by comic art of both eastern and western cultures, artists from the Southeast Asia have a unique blend of flavor when it comes to the aesthetics of Megacorp. Drawn for the Western market, their art style features a more realistic looks and facial features as to compared with the Eastern influences, which leans to a more simple and exaggerated character features.
By working with the Southeast Asia Artists, MEGACORP's art style uniquely blends the flavor of both, maintaining a semi realistic, yet manga-ish drawing style.

Risks and challenges
We might face challenges in two phases of the project:
Printing is a set process, but artwork does take time and is subjective. Currently we have currently COMPLETELY FINISHED the Starter Deck (Main goal) artwork of the project, however if we meet the stretch goal for the booster packs, which is good news, we would immediately engage the art department to work on the additional cards added to the Core Release set - which is why we have set ourselves the deadline for a Dec 2016 release.
For software development, this might take up to 3 months to a year depending on the final list of features. Currently we are looking at including just the cards in the core set for the logic. Expediting this is possible with further funding but this is difficult to express as an additional set goal i.e.: "same reward, but faster"
Lastly we are wary of the calculation of shipping prices especially to Europe and will be keeping abreast as we find the most efficient way to ship the physical rewards to you!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
