Campaign Cancellation

Posted by MegaBots, Inc. (Creator)

Hello MegaFans!

First of all, thank you so much for your support. We deeply appreciate the hundreds of you that stepped up to help make this sports league a reality! Your pledges mean the world to us.

Unfortunately, given the way Kickstarters typically unfold (with funding spikes at the beginning and end of the campaign, and trickles in the middle), and the rate at which people are pledging, it's almost certain this won't be successful. As a result, we have decided to cancel this campaign and look for alternative sources of funding.

We realized going into this campaign that it wasn't structured the way Kickstarter usually recommends - i.e., set the fundraising goal low and hope to exceed it several times over - but we didn't want to get into a situation where we might let down our fans by being fully funded and unable to deliver on what we promised. Our goal was set to a realistic budget for what we needed, in order to get to an arena event in a year. It looks like crowdfunding is not currently a viable way to raise money for this sport right now, and we'll be looking into other ways to make it possible. We'll let you know if and when we've figured it out!

If you're still interested in supporting us, we encourage you to check out the MegaBots store for our in-stock merch that you can receive by Christmas. We have kids shirts, patches, hoodies, and all our standard crew shirts/logo stickers/Eagle Prime poster available now!

Goodbye for now from MegaBots!

Well... so much for passing the word around in a hurry then. I must say this didn't felt like the right time of the year for something this big. But it's important, your plan has far more implications for the future that the league by itself.

Though I do hope you'll find that other option and come back with this precise plan in it's full glory! :) Especially the part where teams from all around the world works together to improve heavy robotics.

      Above all, don't give up!
You've taken quite literally an heavy responsibility by starting this. We're counting on you.

I saw it coming, and I'd much rather you aim for realism in your goal than a pipe dream; making it real is what this was all about, after all! I truly hope that you're able to work it out through other means, so that you can bring it to the next level!

It's very sad to hear, but the realistic stance makes this very understandable. I really hope you guys manage to get this off the ground and prove all the pessimists and naysayers wrong!

I completely understand your reasoning and deeply appreciate the amount of transparency you are going with for this process. However, I would like to know how I could get an opportunity for those VIP tickets again as well as an opportunity to pilot the gunner seat of Eagle Prime for 10 minutes. I understand the kickstarter's cancellation but it was like a dream come true for me when I pledged the Gunner Experience Package and seeing that taken away has hit me a bit, despite understanding why. I would be completely willing to pay the around the same amount i did in the pledge for another method of getting a chance to make this dream of mine come true.

We appreciate the transparency and more importantly the integrity of not glossing over the total funding needed to bring a sport to life in a year. This goes a long way and when you do find a platform or avenue that supports this type of integrity and ability to get funding please share that information.

Unless Kickstarter changes it is currently transformed into a place where it seems you have to be majority funded in the first 48 hours to be successful. Its a model of bring your own crowd to the crowdfunding website that majority funds the project already rather than seeking organic grassroots funding effort like it did back in 2012 - 2015.

Very sad to hear it but I think you've made the right choice and we appreciate the transparency.

This sadness I feel right now. It's like a sickness, a sickness that's only prescription is giant robot fights. Will I ever be well again? :(

Thanks for the transparency and explanation; you guys know more about Kickstarters than most of us at this point!

Scurrying my human butt over to the store now...

Sad to see this get canned but understandable.
I wish Gui, Matt and their team the best in what the future has in store for them.

How about a ? That could build an additional monthly income for you guys on top of the merch we'll buy :)
