Hi Kickstarter fans!

First off, thank you for pledging yesterday everyone! We're 4% of the way to our goal, and it's all thanks to you and your love of giant robots! We're off to a bit of a slow start, so please make sure to ping your friends today and let them know about this campaign!

We wanted to introduce you to one of our staff - David Isaacs, former President & COO of UFC. He's our new Head of League Development, and he's here to help us build out the rules, regulations and infrastructure necessary to turn giant fighting robots into a professional sport.

He helped develop the Unified Rules of Mixed Martial Arts, which are still in use today, and is ready to help MegaBots do the same!

Let's keep up the momentum today so we can make this sport a reality!

      I had thought that the livestream strongly reminded me of the UFC's set-up (especially with commentary by Goldberg). Glad that there is an experienced hand to guide this into a new sport. I can't wait to see where this goes.

      Hi, David. Awesome to have you aboard and looking forward to assisting in any way I can. As a game designer with 17 years of experience under my belt, I figure I can provide you with at least one sound board to bounce ideas off of, and an eye for balance in a combat league that is going to need some hard rules to prevent pilot death (the top priority imho).

      1.) Everything we do should minimize pilot risk while maximizing robot carnage. The fans came here to see robots turn each other into scrap metal, not to have a match prematurely ended by a life threatening hit to the pilot compartment. Without a focus on pilot safety, I fear that the league will have trouble getting pilots to even participate. The goal of these matches should never be to "kill the meat, save the metal", it should be the opposite "scrap the metal, keep the meat".

      2.) Entertainment over Engineering: While I'm all for pushing the envelope on what a robot can do, a lot of designs are simply not going to be entertaining. We saw this a lot in Battlebots, and rules had to change to prevent optimal boring designs from dominating. I think weight classes are a good start, but also chassis types should be a factor; bipedal two-armed, tracked, quads, etc. The designs should be forced to work within a framework of "entertaining design" and then within that framework optimal builds can be generated, rather than optimal engineering dictating and ultimately squashing entertainment.

      3.) Projectile weapons are, by their nature, designed to be kinetic kill weapons. If your weapon isn't punching a hole through the megabot and blowing out internal systems, it's going to be perceived as dead weight to most viewers. However, here-in lies the paradox. You can't have these weapons and keep pilots safe. Projectiles are uncontrolled once fired, and the risk of having an armor piercing round hitting a pilot (or hell, the audience) is too great. Solutions to this are found in point #2: Entertainment over Engineering. Cockpits will need to be made out of materials vastly more resilient than the rest of the megabots. In this way, the penetrating power of projectiles and physical attacks will not need to be extreme in order to inflict damage on the rest of the megabot. This is another framework restriction that I feel is necessary to have if we have manned machines on the arena floor.

      4. Cost: This is a big factor which, hopefully, the suggestion in #3 above helps to alleviate. Repairing state of the art machines is expensive (the cost does drop as replacement parts are bulk manufactured, but starting out, it's going to be brutal). This means ticket prices will be out of the reach of most fans, unless... you can reduce the costs by using cheaper materials. These cheaper materials support the idea above that enables weapons that are lethal to megabots but not to their occupants to be used instead of an engineering arms race without a ceiling.
