"The Myths of Design" is a collection of advice, stories, anecdotes and interviews featuring some of the world's best designers. I've hand selected 10 designers that in my opinion are doing design the right way. People who want to create the best possible work, make long lasting relationships with their clients and who are making the world a better place, through their design.
I began working in design in 2006. I was young, excited and eager to dive in. As the years went on I worked through jobs both full time and freelance I began to see a darker side of design. Clients and designers were butting heads. Designers were burned out, losing their passion and all around negative towards their professions. Frankly put, people were complaining a lot about work that took up a large portion of their lives and I was right there with them.
Flash forward to 2013 when I began working at Jolby & Friends. I left my comfortable agency job to go work in their small creative studio after hearing the partners speak at a design event. They looked at design differently and I was intrigued. Negative words were never said about clients, the work was fun and exciting again and most importantly we were open and honest with each other. Always wanting to create the best work possible no matter how much hustle it took. Not much has changed since then.
The First Chapter:
The road ahead isn't an easy one. I have written the first chapter with one of the most positive designers in the world, Kate Bingaman-Burt. This chapter is available to read for free at themythsofdesign.com.
My idea behind kickstarting this project is simple. I believe in this book and know that after you read the first chapter you will too. This is a Kickstarter in the most literal way possible. Only 1 of the 10 chapters is written and by backing this project you will kick start the rest of the book. If funded, the book will be completed in mid to late 2016.
The book will be printed with a soft perfect bound cover, full color inside and out and will be approximately 5"x7".
Invisible Creature Package:
1 Printed copy of "The Myths of Design" and an Invisible Creature gift box! Gift box includes 1 set of IC barn blocks, IC stickers and an IC snapback hat.

Risks and challenges
I'm treating this Kickstarter as just that, a kick start for this project. I have completed one chapter which you can read online for free. The remaining 9 chapters have yet to be written. With that said, as soon as the campaign is funded I will begin the remaining 9 interviews and chapters. The biggest risk and challenge is simply time. I've allotted 6 months for writing with 3 months for design and production. I am working closely with printers I have previous relationships with and am confident in the timeline set.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
