I debated backing this project for weeks on 2 weaknesses, and these are 2 that I believe have limited funding for this project.
      1. The full metrics needs to be part of the basic app. We don't need an app to tell us we have dirty air, we know it already. What we don't know is what particulates are in the air and therefore we can find solutions to deal with them.
      2. Smart things is a very limited platform with few users. Either link it with Amazon Alexa or Google home and Insteon and IFTTT and you would have a much broader audience.
I backed this project to stay informed on the future of it, but it is handcuffed at the moment in its capabilities. Set it free and this will take off.

What is the difference between the Super Duper Early Bird other then the shipping costs?

    4. Jan on August 25, 2017

Twitter and Facebook post done :)

    5. Jan on August 25, 2017

@Creator, thanks for your message and updating the shipping cost.
This price is good for me :)
We all hate shipping cost but stuff needs to be shipped ;)

This for me is a reason to stay a backer !

@Jan Willem Koedam: Hey Jan, thank you for your pledge and comments! We are planning to ship to Europe from Spain to alleviate non-EU purchase costs. But your comment on total shipping cost is valid, and we are taking your suggestion. We're about to create a new reward tier momentarily with a lower international shipping cost (usd15 / €13) and will let you know when it is all set up to make the change. Thanks again for your feedback and support!

    7. Jan on August 24, 2017

Ps. I believe strongly that the amount of international shipping cost, is keeping many backers away. This campaign should have had at least 1000 backers already. Is it not possible to change the amount for the shipping and let backers change the pledge ???

    8. Jan on August 24, 2017

But again, the product is great and would be perfect in my smart home, and can communicate with some other Kickstarter products.

    9. Jan on August 24, 2017

He great product, but I will only keep backing of the shipping cost will go down. This is much to high for a small product like this.
Don't forget international backers from Europe have to pay tax and VAT also over shipping. So for me shipping cost now will be almost 50 Dollar !! And the Bloom itself will be 135 dollar total 185, and I think you understand that is a reason not to back.

Next to bringing down shipping cost, are more and more campaign shipping from Europe. I don't know exactly how, but they send bulk to Europe and send from that warehouse. Backers don't have to pay import cost anymore, but safe at least 14% %

@Markus Jöbstl: Hey Markus, great question! Our sensors don't need to be calibrated, although they do require some warm up time when they're first connected for accuracy. We suggest that this is done in an environment that it is closest to earth's atmosphere (in clean air). Nearly all gas sensors are subject to saturation over time (often tens of years) but proper care and protection of the sensors from extreme elements will keep them functioning properly. Hope this helps! And please let us know if you have any more questions! Chris and Monica

Hey there! From some gas-detectors (Co. Dräger) I know that they have to be calibrated with a test-gas once in a while. Other gas detector-sensors get saturated over time. Do you expect such issues or do you have some nifty ways to avoid them? All the best wishes - Markus

This product is amazing! Now we know what we're breathing. Thank you

Hi Michael! Thank you so much for your pledge and your support!

We currently don't see how to update the shipping cost of rewards that are already active with pledges, but will work with Kickstarter to bring shipping down to $20 for int'l -- worry not! So please start spreading the word, we'll take care of the rest!

Bloom provides two concentration metrics. One for oxidizing gases, listed in ppb. And a second one for reducing gases, listed in ppm. Regarding the algorithm, we are heavily considering making sections of this project open sourced once we are funded, please stay tuned!

      All the best!

      Chris and Monica

Bugger it! Sorry, I thought I deleted the first one accidentally so I did another and they both popped up. My bad!!

      G'day guys,

With Monica's enthusiasm it was hard not to back this campaign! Very contagious.

I'm expecting that the US$35 freight Down Under (to Australia) is amended to something realistic like US$20 MAX.

I'll keep my finger away from the 'C' button for now and see what transpires.

This campaign feels like a winner, just got to get those nuggets backing you. I'll mail your Kickstarter around to some other nerds I know.

One thing. Apart from the clean air score itself, do you provide the actual individual values for each compound that is detected?? And do you provide the algorithm used for the calculation of the air score??

      Cheers guys,

      Michael

One thing I'd like to know, apart from the arbitrary air pollution score, does it provide the name and concentration of the actual chemicals in ppm or similar? And do you share your algorithm for the air pollution score?

      Cheers guys,

      Michael

This is really exciting. I have a small french bulldog named Pebbles who has shortness of breath sometimes and I'm wondering if it's because of the air? I need this!

Hello! Thank you all so very much for the early support! It really means a lot to the success of the project and the ultimate goal of promoting clean air.
You can find a list of the elements that Bloom detect towards the end of the page. Here is a short summary.
      - Hydrocarbons
      - Reducing and oxidizing gases
      - Carbon Monoxide
      - Nitrogen dioxides
      - BTEX (benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and xylene)
      - Other VOCs (trichloroethylene, formaldehyde, ammonia)
      - PM2.5e -- Particulate Matter Equivalent. Derived through the levels of nitrogen dioxide and certain hydrocarbons. Which form much of the ambient Pm 2.5 mass

Can you show us a list with each pollution types that bloom can measure?

Very excited to receive my bloom!! I have two little ones and being able to measure the quality of our air 24/7 will be imperative to our health. Even my cat seems to have allergies....
