Hello! Thank you for reading about my project!
I am a flutist in the San Francisco Bay Area and I have launched a commissioning initiative, raising $5,000 to underwrite a new piece for chamber trio by New York composer Daniel Felsenfeld. This project is the second in a series of commissions from composers including Janice Misurell-Mitchell and Bay Area composer Noah Luna, whose "Entrometido" I have recorded for release in early 2011.
Daniel Felsenfeld and I are active Twitter users, and our partnership was solidified through our social media correspondence. Classical musicians normally apply for grants from different institutions to help fund these composition commissions but I am using Kickstarter to raise the funds independently. Daniel was willing to accept a minimal amount for his many hours of work but I plan to raise enough money for the recommended amount outlined by Meet the Composer. (According to Meet the Composer, a commission for a trio less than 10 minutes long costs 4-10 thousand dollars. Please see: http://www.meetthecomposer.org/node/95 )
The new work, for flute, cello and piano, is tentatively scheduled for premiere during the 2011-12 season, in partnership with the Trinity Chamber Concert series in Berkeley, California. For more information, please visit http://meerenai.com or http://www.danielfelsenfeld.com.
Thank you for your support and please help me spread the word.

Update! The new bumper sticker. All those who select the $10 or higher reward will get this 8"x2" bumper sticker (designed by Meerenai on January 10th):
All those who have already selected a $15 or higher reward will also get this bumper sticker. I was not able to add the bumper sticker to the reward descriptions because Kickstarter will not allow me to edit rewards once someone has selected the reward.
FYI, here are some interesting details about this Kickstarter project:
- If I don't meet my fund-raising goal of $5000, I won't get to keep any of the pledged amount. So, if you believe in this project, please tell your friends.
- Kickstarter charges me a 5% fee on the amount of money I raise. And Amazon charges me anywhere between 2.5% and 5% in fees, depending on the pledge amounts.
- After my project is successfully funded, almost all of the $ will go to Daniel Felsenfeld, after I pay kickstarter and amazon their fees. The rest of the money will be used for postage, making t-shirts, etc.
