G.P.S. - A Short Suspense Thriller

In this day and age of smart phones, tablet computers, and driverless cars—when technology is more intertwined with our everyday lives then ever before—I feel it is imperative to take a step back once and a while and be sure our own technology does not completely consume us.

GPS will be a short suspense thriller that embraces this idea.

Actress Michelle LaRue (seen in THE MENTALIST, HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER, REVENGE, and other Hollywood productions) portrays the character of Grace.

Grace is a young housewife in Napa who does not trust her wealthy husband (played by actor John Browning). When she uses GPS technology to spy on him, her discoveries send her on an intense psychological journey.

And yes, Grace has a gun. How will she use it? WILL she use it? From the start of the film, you are instantly transported along with Grace and her quest for an outlet for her emotional turmoil.

This Hitchcock-influenced film is not a commentary on gender relations or domestic upheaval. It is a commentary on people and technology.

Technology is great. But it can also be terrifying. While I am happy to brag that I wrote the first draft of GPS on my phone, I also worry about the image of people staring at their digital gadgets so much that they collide into other people, trip on a sidewalk crack, or crash their cars.

Also, I feel that, while our "smart gadgets" do help us achieve great things that were never possible before, they also can hinder a person's ability to overcome vices and psychological comfort zones. In accordance with this thought, GPS tells the story of one who lets her reliance on contemporary devices take a lifelong obsession and spiral it into utter paranoia.

The goal is to put forth this issue through a compelling, edge-of-your-seat thriller.

We feel you should support this project because we aim to make the film as visually stunning as it possibly could be. Backing this project will not put profit in our pockets, but will help us capture the story and the surrounding setting of Napa County, California in the best way we possibly can.

Your donation will also be vital to ensuring that this film is seen by the largest audience possible, as we intend to distribute GPS heavily on the film festival circuit.

Why Napa as a location? First, because I wanted a scenic setting to contrast with the theme of technology. Plus, I have a personal desire to reconnect with my home stomping grounds (specifically, the northern part of the San Francisco Bay Area) after spending 13 years in Hollywood.

And for those who enjoyed my last short Not Alone online in the FirstGlance Film Festival, you can look forward to some surprise cameos in GPS. ;)

Risks and challenges

Whenever you produce a film, a you always have to be prepared for setbacks. This is not the first short film I have made, so I have a great deal of experience overcoming the potential problems that come up in production. The most major setbacks potentially could be bad weather during the planned time of production, and/or an illness from one of our cast and crew. My solution is to delay production for another weekend, while still hitting our goal of finishing the film by the beginning of Summer 2013.
