UPDATE: The Final Day is Here!
This is it folks! It's the final hours of the of the campaign and we've unlocked a host of incredible stretch goals! Check out the full package we've unlocked so far!
It is a time of hope, it is an age of heroes...
More than three hundred years have passed since the fall of the Atlan Alliance, and the people of Aetaltis have finally brought order to their fractured world. Fledgling nations have grown into powerful kingdoms, thriving merchant states have re-established old trade routes, and the priests of the Enaros have rebuilt their great temples. But in this time of hope, the shadow of an ancient evil is rising once again.
Deep beneath the surface of Aetaltis lurk the armies of the fallen god Endroren. For centuries, an order of holy knights known as the Warders of Alantra maintained powerful mystic seals that held the forces of darkness at bay. But when the Alliance fell, so did many of the ancient orders—including the Warders. Now, after centuries of neglect, the wards are failing and the dark ones have returned.
For the first time since the Age of Darkness, orcs, goblins, trolls, and a host of other fiendish monsters threaten the good people of the world. They strike with unrestrained cruelty; attacking, killing, and destroying all that lies before them. The recently reborn holy orders have combined their divine strength with the temporal power of the new kingdoms to face this growing threat, but the dark ones are many and the defenders are few.
But there is hope!
Lord Drakewyn of Agthor has called upon the brave men and women of his land to take up arms against their common foe. In response, a small army of heroes, known as adventurers, has joined the struggle. These stalwart men and women fight the battles ordinary soldiers cannot fight, go where the holy orders dare not go, and serve as beacons of hope in a world growing darker with each passing day. From hardened dwarven warriors to crafty cheebatan rogues, from fleet-footed fey scouts to mysterious Selenthean mages, these brave souls offer what may ultimately prove the only salvation for this troubled land.
We want to publish the three core books and an adventure for the World of Aetaltis, a heroic fantasy campaign setting created for the Fifth Edition of the world's most popular role-playing game! We spent the last five years working out the kinks, testing the rules, successfully fulfilling two previous Kickstarters, and getting everything ready to go for this campaign! Now we're ready to bring these core books to you.
So what makes Aetaltis special? Aetaltis takes everything you've ever loved about fantasy RPG worlds and gives it new life. We aren't turning our backs on classic fantasy elements or throwing out the stuff that made fantasy so popular with gamers to begin with. Instead, we embraced it all, made it cooler than ever, and used it to make a world that is deeply familiar yet totally new at the same time!
In Aetaltis, you and your friends will explore a fantastic new world of adventure where:
- Dwarven zealots engage in a brutal guerrilla war to retake their lost Deepland homes from a seemingly unstoppable horde of monsters.
- Humans lead an alliance of races from another world who were trapped on Aetaltis after the cataclysmic destruction of the world gates.
- Magic is as terrifying as it is powerful, requiring spellcasters to take exceptional care or risk losing control of the supernatural powers at their command.
- Feline-featured drothmal barbarians from the Icebound Plains wade into battle with wild, terrifying abandon, reveling in every wound they take as a blessing from the God of Trial.
- The spirits of the fey are so deeply entwined with the power of magic, it causes these otherworldly beings to take on myriad physical forms, from elves to sprites to fairies.
- Ten foot tall orog mercenaries wage an endless war against enemies on the battlefield—and the darkness that corrupts their souls.
You are the heroes of a new age—a spark of hope in a land where danger and the forces of darkness assail you on every front. You are stalwart warriors, clever wizards, pious priests, and crafty rogues: daring adventurers who aren't waiting for some great king or a distant god to rescue them. You're taking matters into your own hands and bringing the fight to the enemy!

It’s an immersive text commissioned by Lord Drakewyn of Agthor to aid novice adventurers as they set out in search of their destiny. Written by a group of scholars from the Royal College of New Erinor and annotated by a rogues gallery of explorers, merchants, and adventurers, it contains everything a would-be hero needs to know, including the complete history of the world, detailed descriptions of the gods, and information about the races, cultures, and nations of the Amethyst Sea basin. It also offers tips for traveling in the lands surrounding the Amethyst Sea, guidance on the best places to find the adventure you seek, and a variety of helpful everyday advice for anyone who wants to try their hand at adventuring.

It includes new races, new classes, new spells, and a unique point-based Aetaltan magic system. Plus we'll help you bring your character to life with new backgrounds, a host of cultures, and tools to help you describe why your character is an adventurer. You'll also find a complete equipment list, new magic items, and much more!
The Gamemaster’s Guide
The Gamemaster’s Guide contains everything a GM needs to craft fantastic Aetaltis adventures and run an extended campaign set in the World of Aetlatis. It includes guidance for running Aetaltis adventures, a menagerie of Aetaltan monsters, a number of “For the GM's Eyes Only” rules and setting expansions, and a pile of handy tools that make it easier to run a great game. Plus you'll find an expanded set of rules for awarding inspiration in your games that ties it to the Aetaltan gods and gives players cool new ways to spend their points.
The Forgotten Gate
Discover the World of Aetaltis in this introductory adventure. You'll forge the beginnings of a new legend in this Fifth Edition adventure that is specially designed to introduce the core elements that make Aetaltis so much fun. From the terrifying, life draining powers of bound undead and the inherent risk of delving too deep into the Deeplands, to the wonders of Aetaltan magic and the world's rich history, it's the ideal way for you to unlock the secrets of the World of Aetaltis.
Fifth Edition Compatible
This campaign setting and the associated rules are written for use with the Fifth Edition of the world’s best known roleplaying game. This means you’ll need the Fifth Edition starter set, Fifth Edition core rulebooks, or access to the Fifth Edition rules in some other fashion to play a Fifth Edition game set in Aetaltis.
The more people that join in on the Kickstarter, the more awesome stuff we'll make. More books, more monsters, more magic, and more adventures! With every unlocked goal, you get even more for your money!
We love roleplaying games! Like REALLY love them. We're also all huge fans of all things fantasy and science fiction, from D&D to Tolkein to Star Wars and beyond!
But we're more than that. We're writers, artists, game designers, and editors. We've written science fiction and fantasy for companies like DAW Books, written and edited for roleplaying games like Shadowrun, crafted articles for Dragon Magazine, created art for games like Magic the Gathering, and produced cover designs for best-selling authors like Terry Brooks, Brad Beaulieu, Anthony Ryan, and Brian McClellan.
What we want more than anything is to use our skills and experience to bring an amazing universe of adventure to you. We want to craft a universe that will awe and inspire you, that will make you laugh and cry, and most importantly, that will make you believe in heroes again. (If you're like us, you'll probably agree—the world could use a few more heroes.)
Help us bring Aetaltis to life and someday we'll take you even further! From the heart of the sprawl to the depths of space to a gateway that will let you pierce the veil between the worlds, our plans go far beyond this first setting.
This is our passion and our purpose, and we can't wait to share it with you.
This Kickstarter is about getting the complete Aetaltis setting out there and into the world, but it's not the first Aetaltis product we've released. If you want a taste of what Aetaltis is all about, see some examples of the types of products we produce, and get a hint of what is in store for you, check these out:
THE HEROES OF THORNWALL
CHAMPIONS OF AETALTIS
We want to put books in your hands! We're talking about awesome, hefty hardcovers with fantastic art and magnificent maps. Kickstarter provides us with the infrastructure we need to raise the funds necessary to make this happen. Using Kickstarter not only make producing the book possible, it ensures that every creative person involved in the project is treated right, both financially and professionally.
Just as importantly, Kickstarter lets us get to the heart of what we believe about gaming: gamers are a community. We are a team, working together to keep the dream of visiting fantastic worlds through our imaginations alive. RPGs are about people coming together, and Kickstarter lets us launch this product in a way that embraces that ideal.
Add-ons let you add additional books and rewards beyond the ones in your normal pledge level. Maybe you want an extra copy of the Player's Guide for the game table or a copy of the Adventurer's Guide for someone that wants to learn about the world, but isn't a gamer. With add-ons you can do that.
If you want an add-on, choose the base pledge level you want and then simply increase your pledge amount by the cost of the add-on (or add-ons) that you want. When we fulfill your pledge at the end of the Kickstarter, we'll ask you which add-ons you wanted to get!

We're Working with DriveThruRPG & Backerkit
We're working with DriveThruRPG and BackerKit to bring the World of Aetlatis to your door. Although the team here are experts at making great games, these two companies are experts at printing, shipping, and managing the Kickstarter reward fulfillment process.
DriveThruRPG has a fantastic system for downloading your digital rewards AND for printing and shipping the books. They also help us keep shipping costs way down for overseas backers. In addition, for all of us who already use DriveThruRPG for a lot of our gaming purchases, it puts all the digital Aetaltis books in your DriveThruRPG library.
BackerKit offers a handy tool for keeping track of what your rewards are, paying for shipping, and even letting you add extras after the Kickstarter ends. BackerKit is built to make the process of reward fulfillment easier and more secure for you!
Your Shipping Costs in the United States
If you are receiving print copies, your pledge does not include shipping costs. We will calculate and collect your shipping payment when we're ready to send you the books. We cannot guarantee how much shipping will cost, but on 6/18/19 the cost at DriveThruRPG to ship 5 hardcover books of a size similar to the books we're creating was less than $15! DTRPG also lists estimated shipping costs here on their support pages.
Your Shipping Costs Outside the United States
If you are receiving print copies, your pledge does not include shipping costs. We will calculate and collect your shipping payment when we're ready to send you the books. As we mentioned, one reason we chose to work with DriveThruRPG is that they can ship around the world at VERY reasonable prices. On 6/18/19 we ran the numbers at DriveThruRPG to ship 5 hardcover books of a size similar to the books we're creating to a variety of places in world, including South Africa, Switzerland, the Netherlands, and Australia. The shipping cost quoted for each of these was roughly $15 US except for Australia which was around $40 US. DTRPG also lists estimated shipping costs here on their support pages.
Any additional costs incurred (import tariffs, VAT, other taxes, etc) are your responsibility, and we're not experts on what these might be. That said, we'll do our best to answer any questions you have.
Risks and challenges
There are always things that can go wrong, and we remain ever vigilant! That said, we already ran two successful Kickstarters, and we delivered what we promised when we promised it. Oh, we faced our fair share of challenges backstage, but we made sure that YOUR experience was the best it could be.
We're also veterans of the game and book publishing industry. In fact the sort of work we're doing here is what some of our team do full time. Again - we get that things can go wrong, but the fact is, we know what to do if it does! We've definitely got this, and we've got the track record to prove it.
