About this project
this is essentially the same project as my first unsuccesssful project. the only difference is that it will be running for 90 days as opposed to 33.
What I didn't say in the video:
This design will be open source manufacturing. I hope that if it becomes truly popular, it could be cut in the country it is bought in, or at least in the same continent. Apart from that I believe that open source manufacturing will give me greater freedom as a designer, to continue improving my design on my own terms. This way it can develop most organically, and I don't have to follow a certain product line, or focus on marketing etc. etc.
This is an invention I've been working on for well over seven years now. It is laser cut out of 3mm wood (high density fibreboard) It has always been of utmost importance to me that it is completely non-plastic.
Because it is built with rails, trolley cars can be built for this marblechute. So it can be far more than just a mere marble run.
So how long is the world's longest marble chute going to be? I intend to build one at least half a kilometer long (that translates into approx. 550 yards). The current record is slightly less than half as long, it "measured 210.31 m (690 ft) and was made by Jelle Bakker (Netherlands) at Avonturenpark Hellendoorn in the Netherlands, on 13 May 2009." http://www.guinnessworldrecords.com/records-4000/longest-marble-run/ If the Funding is wildly successful, if, for example, I raise twice as much money as the set goal, then I also intend to build a much longer marble chute. Within reason.
What will the money be used for?
Producing these marble chutes one by one is prohibitively expensive, but if I have enough orders, I can buy my own laser cutter and bring the retail price down well over 50%.
What the backers get:
This is an image of the container for a 15 meter marble chute, and the length of one side of the trianglar case measures just under 24 inches. The 4 meter marble chute will be about half the size.
Here are some more shots of the marble chute when its hung:
If the project is funded I will ship all the marble chutes within a month after the project deadline, so give at least 2 or 3 weeks for shipping from germany, and you receive the marble chutes one and a half to two months after this project's deadline.
As for the chutes used to build the worlds longest marble run: I'll be building it this summer, and it will have to be on display at least a month or so, so they will ship in the fall of 2011, if this project is funded.
