WELCOME TO THE WORLD OF THE MEAL MONSTERS
We would like to introduce you to the Meal Monsters, who come from Planet Yum. Please say Hello to Sal, Gor and Pom.
Along with Sal, Gor and Pom, we believe that children should learn about food and ingredients from an early age. We want them to understand how their lunch is made and what actually goes into their dinner.
That's why we have created The Meal Monsters, an exciting interactive recipe app to encourage children to make healthy food choices. We want them to learn about ingredients, kitchenware, nutrition and cooking, all of which will help them build knowledge for a healthy future.
Meal Monsters is an animated educational app that combines recipes, games and storytelling to encourage kids to cook and eat healthy meals.
Children and their parents can make the recipes together, and this is a great bonding experience. The app can also be played as a game or read as a story by the kids themselves as they learn, laugh and burp alongside the Monsters on their cooking adventures. Our app's UI design is easy for children to navigate on their own.
Through all the fun and excitement, our goal is for Meal Monsters to grow into a library of recipe stories across many food genres. We will also provide coverage of important categories, including breakfasts, lunches, dinners, smoothies and snacks.
It is through engaging recipe stories and exciting characters that kids will learn how to identify their food, what ingredients are used, what superfoods are, why whole foods are best and why cooking from scratch is better than processed foods.
Beautifully illustrated and animated, the captivating characters carry us into a wonderfully imagined world of their own as we fly with them from Planet Yum.
After a hard day's cooking, if you are very quiet, you may find them resting in the egg compartment of your fridge!
How do they get in there?
They enter through the Pineapple Portal on your fridge!

THE MEAL MONSTERS TEAM
We are Mary-Kei Macfarlane and Elisa Galbraith.
We and our small but dynamic and dedicated team are all creatives in our own right. We love cooking, kids, education and creativity, and this project was formed out of friendship and a playful approach to technology and food science.
WHY KICKSTARTER?
As independent creators, we have come to Kickstarter to raise the funds needed to help us complete the task of launching Meal Monsters.
We love Kickstarter because it allows everyone to participate in unique and creative projects like ours. This means that we can speak directly to you, our audience, and hear your feedback while maintaining our creative vision.
Together, we can work to create something truly amazing!
Whether you are able to help with £5 or £25 or with something more, you can be sure that every penny will be put to good use.
HOW WILL WE USE YOUR CONTRIBUTION?
We have already finished work on our first recipe and have started on two more. To enable us to launch the app, we need to spend more immediately in a number of areas:
CREATIVE
- Hand-drawn sketches & illustrations for 5 recipes
- Design storyboards for 5 recipes
- Digital illustration & animation for 5 recipes
- Record voice over and sound effects for 5 recipes
- Illustrate images for our first song & video
- Record music for our first song
TECH
- Coding for 5 recipes
- Bug testing & fixing
MARKETING & PR
- Social media advertising campaign
- Design images & create content for social media
- Design press releases & newsletters
- Website development (updates, content)
FURTHER STAGES OF DEVELOPMENT
If we go above and beyond our target, additional funds can be used in the following areas:
RECIPES
The main focus is to add more recipes to the app. Funds raised above our goal will go towards making an additional five recipes for the app.
GAMES
If we are able to greatly exceed our target, we will allocate funds towards our first Meal Monsters game.
Games may include:
- Grow your own veggies! Add soil, sun and water and watch them grow
- Catch healthy food falling from Planet Yum!
- Park your Radish Rocket! Safely land on the 'radpad' as you navigate through Planet Yum and healthy food
- Pick your own veggies! Identify veggies by their leaves above the soil. Pull them from the soil to see what is growing.
- Clean up your kitchen! Save the Meal Monsters from slipping on banana skins and wet floors. Watch them fly across the screen!
THE MONSIE
We can't wait to introduce the Monsie! Take a Monsie (a monster selfie!) and share on social media.
This is already designed, however, further funds will go towards the coding and functionality required to make it live on the app.
MERCHANDISE
Merchandise may include lunch boxes, chef uniforms and colouring books.
Our first downloadable colouring book is available here on Kickstarter as a pledge reward.
We are already designing a further two items.
We will get samples of these and then provide them on the website for pre-orders.
ONLINE DEVELOPMENT
An online store will allow us to provide digital downloads such as colouring books as well as physical goods.

RISKS AND CHALLENGES
With Kickstarter, we see this as an opportunity to involve our audience and consumers as partners and we take Kickstarter and our project very seriously. We aim to deliver high quality content and therefore one of the things we can't always predict is how long the project will take to finish.
We will work our hardest and do our best to deliver on time without compromising on quality and content. We will keep you up to date with what's happening on Planet Yum and how we are progressing.
REWARDS FOR MERCHANDISE PRODUCTION:
As we start getting samples for merchandise, this may require more time until we are satisfied with the item and suppliers. The items we produce first may also vary depending on customer feedback and demand for specific merchandise. Should any issues arise we will keep you updated with the latest information.
APP DEVELOPEMENT:
Although we have already completed our first recipe as a prototype and outlined a plan for how the final app will look and function, we may need additional time for any changes based on customer feedback and to add more features.
Our recipes take time to develop as we want to give full attention to the illustrations and animations without compromising on quality and style of the app.
BUILDING OUR NETWORK:
We will be putting together our team of experts which includes nutritionists and chefs to advise us on recipes and content. Our goal is to expand our recipe database and so we will work closely with nutritionists and experts on kids recipes. This will take time to ensure we deliver the best recipes.
