The Commune of Courolempierre
The Commune of Courolempierre is a full Campaign Setting for use with tabletop role playing game systems.
Welcome to The Commune of Courolempierre, a new Setting and Campaign for the Morgalad Fantasy RPG (also available in compatible formats for D&D 5E, and Pathfinder as well)! Here are some reasons why you should consider backing The Commune of Courolempierre if you haven’t already:
1. Because the setting is complete, so your risk is minimal!
All the core products offered as backer rewards are practically finished and ready to deliver digitally (with some minor tweaks pending, such as adding the list of backers to the PDF). This means there is tangible product for you to enjoy!
2. Because we need your help for the print run!
Our big stretch goal is to reach $15,000 in funding so we can fund an offset print run of the The Commune of Courolempierre and thus reach hundreds of hobby stores nationwide. And we’re so close, but we won’t get there without you! We have set many great stretch goals for you between now and then! And speaking of stretch goals…
3. Because we still have many cool stretch goals for you, including more conversions, and over 13 maps within the commune!
We have great stretch goals, including 1”-scale PDF battlemaps of the main locations in the campaign, and a few hidden secret areas, and at $15,000, an upgrade to hardcover for all print book backers, as well as a commitment to create additional conversions for other role-playing systems, (ie, AD&D, 3.5, GURPs, FATE, etc.)
4. Finally, because the Commune is in Danger!
The Commune of Courolempierre was hard fought and rebuilt during the last war. It’s inhabitants, after many generations of hardship, have finally known peace. That peace brings about a silence that bodes ill for the Commune. The winter's chill brings many enemies and scouting parties have been spotted along Courolempierre’s borders. What wickedness lies in wait out in the bleak whitefall blizzards? While a team of adventurers investigate these sightings, vile and lascivious events are transpiring. Murders, missing corpses from their graves, and strange treasures begin to appear in the commune. What evil has set it’s sights upon this restful border town? Will you take up the chance to help save the citizens and lay their loved ones back to rest?
The campaign will be available as three or six PDF-only modules, depending on stretch goals, and (after the modules have been released) as a single-volume Campaign Book. If you want to use the setting as a sandbox and ignore the campaign, you can do that as well!

What is Morgalad Fantasy RPG ?
If you're new to role-playing games (RPGs), or an old hand but are not familiar with Morgalad, this is what you need to know: Morgalad is a system for playing role-playing games in any genre: Fantasy, science-fiction, westerns, horror, you name it. It’s Core Rules are built around fantasy themes but with each expansion we are able to explore additional genres with our 4d6 system. You have to learn the simple rules once and then you're ready to play. Morgalad functions on a simple success/fail system configured with a dice pool mechanic. Players use a dice pool that can be upgraded and customized by using character points obtained by leveling up. The purpose of this game is to offer an old school style “crunchy system” and still maintain heavy emphasis on role playing.
The 4D6 System
The custom D6 system also allows players to roll 4 six sided dice (4D6). If a learned ability applies, they roll against a Difficulty Rating(DR) determined by the Host. If no learned ability applies, players will add +5 to the Difficulty Rating and roll an attribute challenge.
- Play a Sample Solo Adventure here.
- Download the free Morgalad Starter Book.
- Get the print or PDF copy of Morgalad at the publisher's site or at most physical and online book and gaming stores.
Let's start with the good news: The campaign adventures are 100% complete, the art is ready, the books are laid out and ready to go. What this means is that, assuming the Kickstarter funds successfully, backers will receive the complete PDF Campaign Setting and Adventures very shortly after the KS ends.
The Commune of Courolempierre Includes:
Three Unique Adventures (Expandable to 6 with Stretch Goals)
- C1-The Scouts of Whitefall
- C2-Of Gold and Death
- C3-The Oubliette of Ogry'mymnon
- LOCKED - C4-The Song of the Swamp Witch
- LOCKED - C5-The Ice Halls of Tarren Fall
- LOCKED - C6-A Guardian's Silence
- 25+ Standard Abilities
- 50+ Profession Specific Abilities

Setting Guide, 30+ Creatures new to the Morgalad Fantasy RPG, 4 New Professions, Over 50 new abilities & upgrades, and three campaign modules available separately and as a one-volume Campaign Book.
What's the Kickstarter for then?
The Kickstarter is for two main reasons:
To recoup the art and layout costs for the over fifty pieces of art for the campaign, including artwork by Gaspar Sabater, Richard Svennson and additional art by Jack Holliday and Rick Hershey.
If we get to fund the Kickstarter AND reach the $15,000 stretch goal, I should be able to change the printing process from Print-on-Demand (POD) to an offset print run. This will help get the Setting Guide into shelves at stores everywhere, thus increasing the number of players who see, buy and play it; and giving the line a much better chance to thrive long into the future.
As a thank you for helping me fund a print-run, every backer who ordered a softcover POD Setting Guide should get a HARDCOVER Setting Guide instead at no extra cost (with the possible exception of a change in the shipping costs).

Courolempierre, pronounced (kor-O-lym-peer), is an urban commune in north-central Lor, nestled peacefully near the restricted borders where the Almast Kingdom meets the Strafenbour mountains. The commune was a tactical vantage point in the establishment of the Orishkaela border. Once a great outpost during the Arym Forest War, Courolempierre suffered many causalities and the original business district along Vertical Alley was set ablaze. The fire, now referred amongst the citizens as the Burning Rain, was set by orcs and trolls throwing flaming oils over the northeastern wall. The blaze spread throughout the smaller districts forcing inhabitants to move to the sewers and escaping to the Red Hand Plantation. Courolempierre is surrounded by 15 miles of farmland outside of its' walls and has a population of roughly 2,400 citizens including 8 active duty guardsmen. The Veiled Lyceum University sets high in the Terrace District housing what remains of their historical records in its' main hall known as the Erudyte Archives.
Origins of the land
The Arym Forest War
As HRM King Alamer Everfrost crossed the orish fields with his combined army of man and dwarven forces. His target was to march towards the military outpost at the town of Couro, his goal was simple: to defeat the orc king Scarknuckle the bulbous, drive the orcs back beyond the Arym Forest, and finally to establish the new borders by forcing the orcs to stay within the Strafenbour Mountains with the rest of their wicked kin. After the murder of his father, Balmar of Almast, Alamer set his sights on the Arym Forest; seeking revenge on the orc tribes responsible for Balmar's demise during a hunt with the Couro Merchants. After gaining the respect of the rebellious southern hammerfest dwarves from the bronze hills Alamer marched forward across the Orish fields where he setup camp just 12 miles out from Couro. Alamer knew if the orcs saw a war party march into Couro that would trigger the war and Alamer didn't want to risk his followers going into battle after a long days march. The Everfrost Army setup camp for the night but little did they know the orcs had spies everywhere. While Alamer's forces slept in preparation for the battle they were surely walking towards, an orc raiding party took over the northeastern most farms on the borders of Couro and began throwing burning oils over the city walls setting all the businesses ablaze along the industrious Vertical Alley. Many merchant families were lost that night as the fires spread throughout the town. The citizens all banded together to escape but were ultimately forced to flee through the sewers emerging at the Red-hand Mill near Goldenfurrow Manor. Fortunate for the townsfolk the Manor was unlocked and well fortified. Sorrow was felt in the hearts of the survivors as it was believed that all of the Goldenfurrow family were killed when the other farms were seized, for none of them were ever seen in the Goldenfurrow home again. With the rising sun came HRM King Alamer and the Everfrost Army which swept through the region like a river of blood decimating all of the remaining orc ranks from the borders of Couro. As the two suns shown across the sky at Midday, victory seemed assured. Alamer knew only two tribes remained in the forests and both were supporters of Scarknuckle. He knew it wouldn't be long before his fathers' murder was avenged. The assurance was short lived for when the tribes came they marched under two seperate leaders not just Scarknuckle their king but under a newly formed religious banner that read Ogrymym'non the Destroyer. The two tribes broke the tree line followed by their king with his mighty axe but the true terror was the enormous troll following behing Scarknuckle. The troll looked unlike any other Alamer had ever known. With gnarled long brown appendages its arms and legs looked more like tree branches than actual body parts. Its large oversized head had been slashed with large horizontal gashes covered in the festering remains of all the crops he had helped destroy in the previous night raid forcing his head to look like a pestilent rotting gourd.
The four most common seasons are Everborn, Deepstorm, Highsun, and Whitefall. Everborn is a time to plant when the snows of whitefall have begun to melt away and the new lush grass begins to break through the soil making the fields ready for plowing. Deepstorm is the rainy harvest season with semi mild weather in between storms. Highsun is the hottest season of the year in which crops grow tall and strong as they reach to the heavens for sunlight. Whitefall is the seasons in which very few civilized creatures travel or come out as the snow and freezing temperatures can chill a person to their very core.
