Mid-Autumn Update

Hey guys here is what’s been happening since our last update.

General News

Kickstarter have informed us that the funding should be winging its way to us now, finally! It has yet to land in the bank account, but at least we know it will be available soon - allowing us to kick it all up a notch! If only there was a quicker way to send money around the globe...

Due to the Mid-Autumn Festival in China, our factory has gone quiet for a short period - however we have been focusing on perfecting the rings, production planning and figuring out all the logistics.

Distribution

We’ve think we’ve cracked the distribution challenge and have mapped out exactly how we are going to get the rings from the factory in China to all you wonderful backers. We reached out to our network and secured the help of a very experienced company who ship products from China day in, day out - they will be helping to ensure the rings are shipped quickly and efficiently to our designated picking and packing teams, in key locations across the globe.

Quality Assurance

A Quality Assurance plan has been finalised and we’re in contact with a company that specialises in this area to carry out our stringent tests. The next step is to get all our testing tools together and shipped over to them, then schedule in their first checks once production has started. John has been busy writing software that will give us a detailed record of the checks, allowing us to keep a second set of eyes on the entire process.

Survey Responses

We’re still working on the survey responses, collecting and collating all the data so we can get our initial order in as soon as possible. With the sheer amount of different ring sizes, metal colors and inlay cover color combinations - this has certainly been one of the most challenging aspects of the process! The reminder email to those that haven’t yet completed their surveys will be going out shortly. If you think you’re on that list (ie: haven’t yet filled in a survey), then please check your kickstarter messages for the original google survey link =]

If you have any questions, please email support@nfcring.com and we’ll be happy to help! We only have a small team, so please bear with us if your support requests aren’t answered straight away. Rest assured we will see them and respond as soon as we can.

Thanks,
The NFC Ring Team

Until next time…

David, we're due to do a separate update about estimated delivery.

We're going to be late on delivery, we know that, we're still trying to figure out exactly how late. October is starting to sadly look unlikely. We are having terrible luck right now (peep the current news about Shenzhen). If we don't get the rings to backers before Christmas I will be really frustrated, everything was perfectly lined up too, grr!

The best thing I can suggest to do is sit tight and wait for us to get an update out about when we are scheduling to get the rings to your door step, trust me, if I could stop up all night and get things moving faster I would but things are out of my hands.

Can we get an ETA though? Even if it's really vague... Sometime before Christmas?

@Tom we're also open sourcing our QA procedures as to get input from everyone involved: https://github.com/JohnMcLear/nfc-ring-specs/wiki/Quality-Assurance-Procedure

Feel free to share your expertise and ask others to contribute :)

I think it's great that you're outsourcing important things like shipping and QA to other companies. Too many kickstarter projects fail in exactly that area because they figure they can save some money and do it themselves. Turns out worldwide shipping and quality testing a brand new product is hard. Duh, go figure...

@Faiq Hussain: I'm due to post a blog post of my Kickstarter experience on http://mclear.co.uk in the next week - follow my on social spam and hopefully we will be able to get an answer from Kickstarter about why payment was late so you can feel confident backing projects in the future.

      Thank you guys :)
So much better planning and management than another project I backed that in the survey suddenly doubled the shipping cost after the campaign was over.
I appreciate how smooth you run things even more now :)

While waiting for the NFC ring I can only recommend others to have a look at this NFC app, that changes action depending on time exposed, currently running program and state (music paused, music playing etc.)
