About

About Me

I am a storyteller, theatre artist and community member on the near west side of Cleveland, Ohio. I graduated from the Ohio State University in 2015 with degrees in English and Journalism, a minor in Women's, Gender and Sexuality Studies, and focused my studies on Russian literature, Shakespeare's work and multimedia storytelling.

I am constantly exploring the parameters of my creative work. I've come to realize the scope of my work can be as far and wide as I can imagine it to be. I want to tell stories that gather people together in a special space, and give them opportunities to become part of the story.

About the project

In 2018, I completed A Weekend on the Estate, an adaption of Isaiah Berlin's translation of A Month in the Country, the 1850 Russian classic by Ivan Turgenev. This adaption invites audiences onto the Islaev estate, where Natalie, a bored housewife, toys with the emotions of her close friend Michael while ignoring her husband and lusting over Alex, a new tutor on the family's estate. The space between stage and audience is eliminated, as people take their seats in either the sitting room or garden, and listen in on the interwoven relationships of characters.

Additional interactions include but are not limited to; one-of-a-kind playbills that guide audience members through the space, helping them snoop for trinkets to take home; an ongoing board game in the sitting room; frequent vodka toasts; communal snuff boxes.

Budget

Raising $4,000 would help cover:

  •  $1,500 payment to actors and designers
  •  $1,000 Set build and installation
  •  $500 Space rental
  •  $500 Printing
  •  $500 Food and drink

Risks and challenges

This is an ambitious project, but a friend and artist I trust once told me that it's better to produce work that you may not consider perfect than it is to never see it come to fruition.

A risk of this project is that its success relies on the audience experience and our ability to create a world they want to interact with. Through a collaborative rehearsal process rooted in open discussion, I hope to build the piece alongside the actors and designers involved, and make a creative experience that everyone can feel invested in.

Another challenge of this project is that it blurs the lines of theatre and installation, and to do this without the support of a larger institution or theatre company requires me to keep multiple plates spinning with limitless enthusiasm. (Good thing enthusiastic plate spinning is a talent of mine.)
