The Cunnin' Plan
I love gaming. (And I bet you do too!) To be honest I don't love T-Shirts as much as I do gaming. But let's face it; polite society requires that we wear a shirt of some kind almost everywhere we go. So why not combine the two things; our love of gaming and society's unreasonable requirement that we cover up when out in "teh public". (No shoes, no shirt, no service indeed!) To that end our crack team of graphic design ninja-pirate-monkeys came up with a bunch of gamer related shirt designs to launch www.ArmorClass10.com; a site that aims to clothe gamers the world over!
Shirts are a bit like bumper stickers for your body. They let you make a statement and show some individuality in the process. But unlike bumper stickers you get to wear a new shirt every day! (Seriously folks, every day. Do I have to elaborate on "Gamer Funk"? Nuff' said.) The T-Shirt is an essential piece of clothing and is really more of a cotton billboard for telling the world who you are, and the things you love.
This Kickstarter project will kick off the ArmorClass10 site with several T-Shirt designs. Funds raised will go towards producing the designs, shipping them and funding future T-Shirt releases. The good news is that we already have all the equipment needed to produce shirts! From one to one-thousand; we are ready to put shirts out today. We have full access to a complete screen printing shop, as well as all the other tools and equipment needed to go from concept to finished shirt.
So unlike a lot of other T-Shirt projects; we will not have to farm out the production of shirts to a third party. (Well, if the Kickstarter gets thousands and thousands of backers then there is always that option; so I'm not closing any doors!) But by doing the work ourselves, we can keep costs to a bare minimum and that will allow us to focus on some clever niche designs specifically for the table-top gaming crowd.
Our initial funding goal was surpassed in 24 hours! So what does any good Kickstarter do when the surpass their goal? They add Stretch Goals, of course! If you keep backing us, we will keep adding designs.
If you've spent any time on Kickstarter, you have probably seen the ever-popular "Kickstarter Shirt". We are doing our own "take" on that idea. The final stats printed on the shirt will be the final stats of this Kickstarter project.
Dice bags! Yes, dice bags.
Think of them as really small shirts. (But without the arm and head holes, of course.)
These bags are cotton, are 4.5 inches wide and 7 inches tall. Each bag has a drawstring set about 1.5 inches from the top which gives it a "neck" when the drawstring is closed. The bags also feature a flat bottom gusset so it will stand upright when you fill it with dice! They have also been treated with our top-secret, patent pending Mojo Preservation Technology to ensure your dice never lose their Mojo!
Backers can add a dice bag to their shirt pledge or as a stand alone item for $4.00 each.
Here is the sample with the ArmorClass10 logo and some dice for size references. I know I hate those really small bags that barely hold one set of dice, and leave you no room for a couple extra D20s and D8s. These bags will hold plenty of dice!
Yes, you can get this design in different colors if you don't want to end up like most "Red Shirts"!
Nothing beats the feeling of tearing open the package that was just delivered and finding that awesome new shirt you ordered. But to make the experience even more awesome Armor Class10 is producing a series of certificates that you can redeem at your game table! From a free re-roll to, automatically winning initiative, extra XP or an exemption from paying for your share of the pizza, you never know what exciting and valuable certificates you will receive. Each order will include certificates, and the more shirts you order the more (and more valuable!) certificates you will receive. (Plus, it seemed like every other Kickstarter was offering stickers, and we wanted to be different.)
The Kickstarter Goal
We're asking for $1500 in backing to launch our line of shirts. We hope to get more, of course, but can produce all of our designs and send them out for this amount.
So, what will the money go to? As stated earlier, we already have access to a complete screen printing shop. We are one of the newest renters at the Artisan's Asylum, a hackerspace and community workshop located in Somerville, MA. In addition to such awesome tools as a laser cutter and 3D Printer; they also boast a full woodworking and machine shop and (this is the key to our Kickstarter) a screen printing shop!
The Asylum has a shirt press, washout booth, darkroom; the works! As renters, we have 24 hour access to all the equipment. That lets us focus on delivering shirts rather than out-sourcing production or buying equipment. (And keeps our funding goal as low as possible to get started!) The funds will go mostly to purchasing the blank shirts, paying for the shipping, ink and other supplies. Other funds will go towards producing future designs to sell on the ArmorClass10 website once the Kickstarter concludes.
We are prepared to get cracking on this project and put shirts out now. The plan is to have all the shirts in the mail come November; just in time for Christmas! (Or whatever generic or religious winter solstice festival you prefer.)
Thanks for taking the time to look over our project. We hope you like one or more of our designs enough to consider backing us!
Risks and challenges
The major risk is getting all the items printed and mailed in time for the Holiday season. (And the Zombie Apocalypse, of course. But I suppose that goes without saying.)Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
