Rescue Polar Bears: Data & Temperature is a cooperative game based on Rescue Polar Bears with a new data and temperature system added to the game design to make the strategy more diversified.
The consumption of fossil fuel and releasing of greenhouse gases yield the global warming. Around the north pole, the last icebergs are melting and the polar bears are facing the risk of being extinct. The players form a scientific organization. They try to collect data about climate change to persuade the governments to change their energy policy. At the same time, they also need to prevent polar bears from sinking into the freezing water.
Each player drives a rescue ship of different ability to complete the mission on the Arctic Ocean. As long as the players collectively gather enough data, they win together. However, if too many polar bears sink into the water, everyone loses.

We are joining in with our global partners to make this game available here for a very limited offering. See details below. Due to the way this game is coming to us there will be NO stretch rewards, though some add-ons may be available post-campaign.
- Guaranteed Copy! Due to printing constraints with our worldwide partners our initial printing of this game will be among the smallest we have ever run. We are at the mercy of the factory and the rights holders to even get this game to the USA market so we just can't be sure when more may become available.
- Early delivery to your door! Backers will get this game several weeks in advance of the release date, or even earlier! NOTE: We are not even sure this will enter distribution yet, it depends on how many we are able to produce in addition to what KS fulfillment takes.
- Discounted Pricing! The game will retail for $60, but you can get it for $50 right here!
- Cheap Shipping! We're subsidizing the shipping for all of you so shipping is extremely affordable. This game weighs a LOT, over 3 pounds, so it is very expensive to ship. Those seeing expensive shipping options may need to consider a group buy option for cheaper per-copy shipping costs.
Great components! including amazing, adorable polar bear meeples! Note the first printing for Taiwan/China was made with resin and we will be doing a limited run with the same high quality resin bears! Any print runs we may do later on will include the plastic polar bears and they will have a different look to them. So if you like the resin bears, NOW is the time to get your copy! It may be your last chance to get these adorable resin bears!
- Amazing Insert! This game will include what some have said is one of the most well-thought-out inserts for a game. The components are easy to organize and it makes set up a snap. The insert was carefully designed specifically for the components in the game and not just a cavernous empty space to toss everything.
- Revised Rulebook! Updated rulebook to clarify the rules and make setup and game play painless. You can download the rulebook here.
"Very good cooperative game. Harder than Pandemic but also more interesting. And way more beautiful." Grueh, Alfortville, Ile de France · France (here)

"Usually I'm the one who likes to be rescued from playing CO-OPs, but this one was fun! Very interesting how this game is able to sustain the tension throughout the game. The polar bears are so *cool* they just have to be saved." Ellen M, Westport, Connecticut (Here)
"Rescue Polar Bears is my game of 2017 and also 2018 possibly 2019 and possibly for all of forever time. I give this game all my paws up." Colin, The Board Game Bear (read full review on Reddit HERE)
"This game plays pretty fast and I was engaged the whole time. I felt we were making meaningful decisions and no one took a leader role. We were definitely working together more than dictating. We had some pretty serious bad die rolling round and I was seriously thinking we were going to lose... It was a great time and I can't wait to play it again this weekend. SO CUTE!!!" Steph Hodge, All The Meeples Of The Rainbow (half way down the page HERE)
*Custom faces will remain on the final version of the dice
*Please note: the exact color of the dice has not been finalized.
Shipping is calculated based on your country, so please pledge and enter the country you want your rewards delivered to. Please note this is a very heavy, sturdy game and shipping is expensive. We are supplementing the shipping costs but it is still just expensive to ship anything internationally.
Please consider a group buy if you want to get your cost per copy down to less than half of the single copy pledge level. This is also not EU or VAT friendly, the stated value of each copy will be around $15 USD so while individual copies may not be taxed with VAT/Customs fees in all countries, it certainly will be in others, especially if you pledge for multiple copies.
We've had a lot of previous successful Kickstarter projects in the past. You'd think by now that we'd be set and not need to run such a project any more, right? Well, not so much. While Mayday has been successful, we're still very small and our cash is tied up in other projects. In fact, if you look at Mayday's early publishing history, we introduced just three new games in 2010 and 2011 before we discovered Kickstarter. Since utilizing Kickstarter, we've launched over 40 campaigns, making us one of the most experienced KS campaign creators ever, and that is ALL thanks to backers like you!
By using Kickstarter, we're able to gauge interest and get the game made in much larger quantities and with cheaper prices to our customers. This is a large part of why we were able to offer our last few projects at such a low price point. With this much stuff in the game and such a small company, this would only be possible with the support of the Kickstarter community.
This project in particular needs Kickstarter as we are contractually obligated to join in the production with other publishers and have a very small window of opportunity to decide how many copies we will make. We are huge fans of accountability and keep an active google spreadsheet detailing all of our past projects as well as a tab for every unfulfilled project (just two unfulfilled at the time of this project). Both unfulfilled projects are scheduled to be fulfilled on time or early. Check out the details HERE.
Mayday Games is a board game publisher. We have published games about the whole of humanity being wiped out (Eaten By Zombies), ship crews being eaten (Walk the Plank and Get Bit), deforestation (Click Clack Lumberjack) and other potentially inflamitory themes. But Rescue Polar Bears is different for us, as the threat to our environment is real and present. Those on the political left and right disagree about the degree of change to our environment and even the causes. But all of us can agree that if a species as iconic as the Polar Bears is threatened with extinction that we will all want to take action.
This game tackles this possibility in a family-friendly way but we hope all of us will engage in real conversations about what our planet will be like after we are gone. For more information about polar bears and their future prospects we recommend reading THIS put out by the US Fish and Wildlife Service. There is a very real debate as to the true nature of the polar bear's current risk and our voices should be heard, regardless of your political leaning. Please keep your comments here on Kickstarter respectful and free from political debates, that is what Facebook is for.
Kickstarter specifically prohibits us from announcing any donations of funds raised on Kickstarter to any charitable organization. Read more about this topic HERE. But we are committed to conservation and Rescuing Polar Bears! Mayday has donated $1,000 USD on the day of this campaign launching to the World Wildlife Fund which works to preserve our precious natural resources. We are a proud Partner In Conservation Member and while we can't announce any donations as a part of this kickstarter, we will be donating more to this important charity after the campaign too. Details will follow after the campaign is over.
Risks and challenges
Mayday has successfully handled 40 prior projects, so we know what we are doing. With this particular project, we have minimized the risks involved with our advanced preparations. If we meet our goal, this project is print ready. The factory is ready to publish, and the art and layout has already been completed. Changes to the project, if any are needed, will be completed prior to the end of the campaign.
But with our experience comes wisdom. We also know that we cannot control every factor in the chain from manufacture and printing to delivery. That is why we have built in extra time into our forecast to account for any unforeseen events that could arise. We believe the addition of this extra time will ensure that delivery of this project will NOT be delayed beyond the estimated delivery date.
We have had over 33,000+ backers to our previous projects, and as always, we stand behind our campaigns. We understand that there may be an occasional glitch in the delivery. If you are a previous backer, and have any missing or damaged parts, just send us a message here on Kickstarter and we will work with you to rectify the situation. Thanks again for all the support!
We have two partially undelivered KS projects at present, but we expect to have this one delivered on time. For details on those two projects you can check them in the link below to see exactly where they are at. We are glad that of our six projects last year that just one is still undelivered (Cahoots) but it will be shipping from the factory during this campaign. We are really happy to be delivering Rooster Rush 3 months early! We're putting extra time into our forecast for delivery to ensure this project will NOT be delayed beyond the estimated delivery date.
