Additional Stretch Rewards Announced!
Announcing our $70,000 Stretch Reward! If we can reach $70,000 we will include for every backer (except retailers who can buy these for $0.50 each if it funds), a custom engraved, 100% wood, one inch starting player token. These will be custom made and laser cut for us in the USA and included in every copy of the game you back for. Help us get these out to all of you! This isn't just a wooden square but a laser-cut token with engraving and shading on it.
Announcing our $72,302 or 1,927Backers... Stretch Goal!??
Yes you read it right, $72,302 is our final stretch goal. We didn't just pull that number out of Davy Jones' Foot Locker, it is a very important number for us. You see our other Pirate Game, Walk The Plank did exactly $72,301 with 1,926 backers. If we can beat either (or both) of these totals then Dead Man's Draw will be our TOP KICKSTARTER ever! So if we can do that we will increase the size of the starting token by 50%, yep to a massive 1.5 inches! Ok, so it isn't huge, but it would be GREAT! If we can do this then all of our wildest dreams will come true, and in some small measure so will yours! Oh and so you know Walk the Plank was sitting at around $63,000 with less than 2 days to go too... we really can do this!
We are very excited to offer this Limited Edition version of the game, after lots and lots of feedback we are using this as the final image of the game for KS backers. Please note if you PREFER the other version you can opt for the standard version of the box in the survey we send out to you after the campaign ends.
We have also just announced a great playmat option for all you backers this was going to be a stretch reward but we have decided to just make it available for all NOW! The retail cost will be $15-20 for this HUGE playmat (22 X 12 inches) but you can get it here on Kickstarter as an add on for just $5 (Plus $1 shipping outside the USA). If you want 4 of these shipped with your game you can add just $15 w/in the USA!
We are offering them to you backers at a screaming deal! Rather than $15-$20 for each one, you can now add to your pledge and get these great playmats for just $5 each! We highly recommend you pick up at least 2 of these but of course 4 is perfect for the game too. In fact if you want 4 of them you can save some more by picking up 4 of these for just $15!
Please note international backers will need to add $1 per mat for shipping. If you want 2 mats that is $5 X 2 + $2 shipping = $12. For 4 mats you need to increase your pledge by $15 + $4 ($1 shipping per mat) = $19 more. Shipping is FREE w/in the USA but $1 per mat for International backers.
This mat will be made of neoprene with full color on the front, think mousepad type material.
Special thanks to Joe Sosta (malkie13 on BoardGameGeek.com) for making this design and allowing us to use it! More playmats may be added on for an additional cost and these will NOT be included for retail backers.

For many analog game publishers (AKA Board Games) the true measure of success is to not just bring a physical game to players' tables, but to eventually bring that game to digital platforms. Mayday is turning conventional wisdom on its ear by bringing an already highly-successful digital game into the physical world. Why are we doing this? So you backers can download and play the game NOW, and because gameplay is already a proven winner in one of the toughest markets in the world!
This isn't just any game, it is one of the most popular games from a well-established industry leader, Stardock Entertainment. Stardock Entertainment has brought such popular titles as Galactic Civilizations® III and Sins of a Solar Empire®: Rebellion. Get Dead Man's Draw as an App by clicking on the picture below.
For the first time on a KS Card Game, you can download and play this game HERE to figure out how to play the game before you pledge! Free to play for your Iphone/Ipad and other platforms. With this pedigree and build up, we are sure you will LOVE this game!
Dead Man's Draw is a pirate themed press your luck card game for 2-4 players and is played in 10-15 minutes.
Back in the beginning of time (2007), a mod for Civilization IV called Fall from Heaven expanded to include a card-based minigame called Somnium. This simple game was an attempt to distill strategy games down to a single decision of risk versus reward, asking players to keep drawing cards and risk losing everything or to play it safe and bank the cards already flipped. Somnium achieved that goal, but never grew beyond being an embedded mini-game in a fan-made mod. Here is a great story about the making of the game.
This was eventually developed into Dead Man's Draw! This was originally launched by Stardock Entertainment as a Kickstarter but JUST failed, check out the original project HERE. So what have we done differently? Revamped the rulebook, reworked the box/presentation and brought Mayday's production quality and board game distribution resources to this project! That also means we have dropped the price from the original KS project!
The cards’ special abilities are key to success in Dead Man’s Draw, and they build off of each other. Each suit in Dead Man's Draw has an effect that the player activates when they reveal a card in that suit.
Critical Acclaim for the App:
Physical Card Game Reviews:
GeekDad's Review: "It’s quick to learn, quick to play, and has a great risk-reward balance if you like press-your-luck games. I backed it earlier just because it looked kind of fun, but having played the app I’ve decided to up my pledge—I’ll have some to give away and I really want this one to succeed!" UPDATE: Latest review HERE.
"Most push your luck games involve the question, "Do I take one more chance or do I end my turn now?" Oh yes, Dead Man's Draw has that, but this game gets interesting when resolving the Suit Abilities. Do I steal a Hook or a Cannon with my Sword?" - London Malmrose
"Fast, tense and fun, since a game only takes 10 minutes. Let's play again!" -Jordon Field
"Dead Man's Draw offers more choices than standard push-your-luck games; not only do you have to decide when to stop drawing cards, but what to do with cards you have drawn. These extra decisions turn Dead Man's Draw from a good game into a great game." - Robert V. Bolton
"I have played Dead Man's Draw on my iPhone. But playing Dead Man's Draw with 3 or 4 players really makes this game shine. It is a blast to play with 8 players! Table talk erupts whenever a Cannon is drawn. "Why are you attacking me? John has more cards!" - Daniel Benson
"Instead of having hazard cards like Incan Gold or getting shot in the face in Zombie Dice, the danger in Dead Man's Draw is getting too much of a good thing" - Daniel Peterson
9/10 "I have the iPad version and have Kickstarted the print version. If you don't like random, push your luck games, you won't like this. If you do, you'll be hard-pressed to find a better one." -Tinyelvis, Belmont NC, USA on BGG
9/10 "I often compare it to a pirate themed black jack on steroids with various game-changing abilities. Awesome looking cards and great replay value with the various stones and character cards. A lot of it is luck, but in a party setting there's always lots of laughs and never a dull moment. While still enjoyable with 2 people, I highly recommend to play with 4 people or more! " -4ndySmith, Canada on BGG
On your turn you draw a card and place it into the play area. When you place a card into the play area you activate the Suit Ability. You can use a Cannon to blast one of your opponents cards into the discard pile. Swords steal a card from one of your opponents Bank.
Either you can place another card in the play area or Collect. If you Collect you move all the cards from the play area into your Bank to be scored at the end of the game. If you place an additional card in the play area and the Suit is the same as any other card in the play area you Bust, you do not score any points and your turn is over. Do you have what it takes to use Cannons, Swords and Hooks to grab the most loot?
Traits give players a powerful, unique special ability for the entire game. There are 17 unique Traits! Traits make Dead Man's Draw replay value off the hook. Two games are never the same!
Details about Traits can be found right here in the Dead Man's Draw rulebook.
Stardock Entertainment's digital version of Dead Man's Draw is for only 1-2 players. Mayday Games tabletop version of Dead Man's Draw plays 2-4 players. To have a Pirate Party you can combine two copies of Dead Man's Draw and play a 5-8 player game!

Coming Soon: Our Next KS Project:
Risks and challenges
This project doesn't have any risks to speak of if we meet our goal. The factory is ready to publish and most of the art and layout has been completed previously. Any additionally needed changes should be completed prior to the end of the campaign. We have launched and distributed more than a dozen Kickstarter Projects.
Anyone missing anything at all from any prior project please send us a message here on Kickstarter and we will get you replacements sent immediately. We have had over 5,000 backers so we expect a few of you may have slipped through the cracks. Thanks again for all of the support!
We have two outstanding KS projects at present. Hold Your Breath and Chopstick Dexterity Mega Challenge 3000 are both behind schedule for delivery but they are both scheduled for production at the factory in the next 30 days and we will get them both delivered in the next couple of months.
A more recent project, Bling Bling Gemstone has already completed and we are sending out the last few rewards this month.
We have had 15+ Kickstarter projects complete and note that all but these most recent 3 are totally fulfilled and we will strive to get this project completed and all rewards to backers in a timely manner.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
