We're the hosts of the podcast One Bad Mother, and we think you're doing a great job. Let's face it: we all love our kids, but parenting is crazy hard work! And nobody goes around giving you credit for being a good parent. That is, until now! We've created a set of parenting merit badges because you've earned them!
Our Essentials Pack of five sew-on parenting merit badges includes:
The "Acquired a Kid" badge. Congratulations! Whether a baby gestated inside you or your partner or a surrogate, or you made it through the adoption process. However it went down, You did it! You got a kid!
The "Sleep" badge. How'd you do it? Nobody knows. Somehow, you got your kid to sleep. And they slept for four hours. Keep it up for a month, and you might stop hearing voices.
The "Awkward Romance" badge. What's the best kind of romance? Trying to conceive, trying to work around a big ol' baby bump, trying to "reconnect" after childbirth, or trying to sneak some intimacy without waking one or more nearby sleeping children? We all deserve a little love in our lives, even if it's THE MOST AWKWARD kind of love. Congratulations...you did it.
The "On the Toilet with a Baby" badge. This is a real achievement. You had to use the bathroom. Whatever the scenario, you made your choice. You held and maybe even fed your baby...while you sat on a toilet. So, there’s that.
The “Detachment Parenting” badge. You had to go to work or get your hair done or whatever. You had to leave your crying baby with a babysitter or daycare. Your baby screamed and, with all your heart, mind, and body, you wanted to go back for your baby. But, you didn't. GOOD JOB LEAVING YOUR BABY.
Our Advanced Level Badge Set includes all of the essentials plus five more badges for parents who have leveled-up:
The "Self Care" badge. Hey, remember taking care of yourself? Congratulations! You just remembered you're an actual person with needs. You ate one *&%$!-ing meal, took one *&%$!-ing shower, or successfully made one *&%$!-ing phone call. All better now!
The "Poop in the Tub" badge. Hey! Look at that. Sorry!
The “Got Milk” badge. You went out for milk...and came back afterwards. You could have used the opportunity to run away and start a new life! But you didn’t! You came back. Good job! Enjoy your milk.
The “Unsolicited Advice” badge. There you were, out with your kid, minding your own business. You weren’t asking for advice, but someone went ahead and gave it anyway. OK. Thanks for that!
The "Flip Flop" badge. You swore you wouldn't allow this to happen, but: the TV is on, or your kids are drinking as much juice as they want, or you went through the drive-thru instead of cooking dinner. Whatever you said you wouldn't do back when you didn't have kids, you're doing that now. It's come to this! Oh, well. You’re doing O.K.!
The Deluxe Set comes with all the Essentials and the Advanced level badges plus three special bonus badges:
The "Parenting Genius" badge. I saw what you did! I’m paying attention! You solved a parenting problem, large or small, with your own amazing brain. YOU ARE A GENIUS.
The "Parenting Fail" badge. Hey, you had an idea! But...it didn’t work. Your intentions were good, but that just wasn't enough. Actually, you screwed up pretty badly. But, luckily for you, your kid is still alive and, as far as you can tell, in good working order.
The signature "One Bad Mother" badge. That’s right. You got this. Whether you're a single parent, a partnered parent, a co-parenting parent, or a commune parent, you’re doing a good job! Go on with your bad self.
When you back us at the Deluxe level, you'll also receive our custom-made "DID IT!" pennant and a killer canvas messenger bag that doubles as the coolest diaper bag ever.
Risks and challenges
We're working closely with an established merchandising and fulfillment company who've helped us to carefully price out the costs of manufacturing the badges, compiling them into great-looking packaging, and shipping them out to backers in a timely manner. We also have vendors for our custom pennants and messenger bags. All items have been designed so it's just a matter of reaching our goal to make sure we can order the merchandise according to the minimums set by the vendors. Maximum Fun has years of experience working with vendors on making custom merchandise for our network of podcasts. In our experience it's always possible for delays to arise on the vendor's side, but usually not more than a couple of weeks. We've also timed this so that packages should be able to go out to backers prior to the holiday rush around Christmas time, when mailing delays can become more common.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
