MAVENHAL (formerly Barkeeper & Co.)
One might ask, why Mavenhal? Maven means "expert or connoisseur" and hal with a "u" means "to carry". Our tagline, "Care for your craft", embodies the idea that everyone likes to take care of their prized possessions or collection. Some of the bar tools we see being used out there these days are not cheap and we definitely don't want to see any bottles breaking.
Year one gave us an opportunity to introduce Bar Bag and as a result, we were able to understand more consciously what the lifestyle of a bartender really meant and where our product fit in. We discovered it was more urban. These individuals walk, bus, bike or even ride a motorcycle into work most of the time. At times, bartenders are also hopping on a plane jet setting to a cocktail conference, guest shift or competition.
Craft cocktail culture has grown out of bars and into homes - everyday imbibers and foodies are seeking effortless ways to "WOW" friends at the next dinner party. A proper drink requires proper transport, whether you are male or female, whether you are the local barman or a cocktail enthusiast. No matter what, you need a versatile pack to transport all the necessary tools and ingredients. We wanted to revolutionize the "travel bar" from the 1960's to today's standards that appealed not only to the industry, but the consumer. Transport needed to be safe and secure. It needed to be discreet, but stylish. We went for the simple, stylistic approach of a Japanese backpack. It's time to turn away from the black rollers we are used to seeing. Bar Back is a conversation piece for anyone who works in the industry or is bringing the bar to and from gatherings - from a fun day tailgating, or hanging out on the boat to a formal cocktail party.

URBAN MULTI-CARRY BAG
All because of one clip you have the ability to carry our bag as a backpack, tote, messenger or bag.
Meet the "Mavens" - Lana, Jessica, Steph and Zulcoralis from our "Mavens Mixing Drinks" edition launching on March 7th. The four of them, with another six, for a total of ten in the nation will be highlighted for their professional careers as bartenders. They were kind enough to share with us some of their very own cocktail creations. Recipes will be provided for you to try at home.
THREE THINGS REMAIN...
A wall of two rows of pockets was designed to perfectly fit your desired craft bartending tools with a gusset at the top to accommodate taller tools like a muddler, ice scoop, or squeezer.
The interior face of the fold down pocket was designed with and extra aluminum clip enclosure to accommodate your cutting board, Ziploc full of pour spouts, iPad, or just a notepad for your next meeting. The stitched bar tack panel provides an area for up bar spoons, tweezers, a muddler, and bar whisk.
We gave Cocktail Wonk an early preview and he could not have explained what Bar Back does any better, click the link below. The interior compartment was designed with a double zipper to give you quick access with the ability to open as a quick unzip and reach your hand in from either side or to open up for full access as shown here and stuff the top portion of the bag into one of the side pockets. These side pockets can also be used for keys, a wallet, or cell phone.
"The main compartment of the bag has great capacity. However, it’s a little taller than you’ll typically need. The tallest of bottles fits with ease in this bag, however, with typical bottles, you’ll have an air pocket at the top of the compartment. If you have items like clothes that can go in the space above your bottles, fantastic." - Cocktail Wonk, Matt Pietrek
We have teamed up with TrekPak to provide the only one of its kind, removable and adjustable insert enabling you to lock things into position and limit them from moving around or breaking.
Our back pocket was meant for being able to stash your straps and carry your bag by the handle inside if you wanted to be simple. Or you might just want to put your computer in there as well because of the padded wall.

Quality is number one. We wanted to see our product being made right here in our own backyard. We wanted to have that direct connection to our product to ensure we were producing a superior product at an affordable price.
We work in the craft industry and we wanted to be just as specialized when making this bag as we did Bar Bag. Bar Back is handmade, designed and assembled right here in Seattle WA, a mecca for the thriving craft cocktail scene and bag making industry.
We spent countless hours researching, developing and refining the concept behind the new style of Bar Back. Every detail and feature was thoughtfully considered and tested so that we could deliver the best product possible.
We also talked with backers, previous customers, and professionals that mobile bartend, cater or are brand ambassadors and their feedback was more instrumental in creating Bar Back. With their input, we were able to design a bag specifically around their and our needs.

We hired a soft goods bag consultant, PhunnyBaggs - to help manage our production with 20+ years experience in the business this time around. Production is said to take 45 days, but we wanted to give ourselves some leeway in case there were any issues. The famous saying, "It's better to under promise and over deliver!"
Bar Back will be manufactured in Seattle, WA by an experienced factory with highly skilled sewers specializing in soft goods products. We’re in contact with them now and they are ready for us to move forward once our campaign ends.
You're the best! You may not need us, but we definitely need you! You'll receive a special thank you email, and we'll keep you updated on what's happening with Mavenhal.

As a small team, we’ve done everything within our capacity to get Bar Back to this point. We’ve already invested over $5000 to create the best product possible, but we can’t launch Bar Back on our own. We need your support to help pay for the high costs ($15,000) involved in making our first production run.
If we hit our fundraising goal, we’ll be able to produce Bar Back and build momentum to continue to launch more great bar bags to our existing line for the craft bartending community. This is only the beginning of what’s to come with Mavenhal in 2016.
Thank you for stopping by and checking out Bar Back. We hope you like it and we appreciate your support.
Thank you to all of our friends, family and everyone who has supported us through this entire process. If it wasn't for you we wouldn't have gotten to where we are on this project.

Risks and challenges
Manufacturing - The main risk of any project like this is delays in materials and production. Being that a large percentage of our materials are here in the USA, we don't foresee any issues. Our designs are finished and our sources and factories are ready. It's not if we will ship, it's a matter of when.
We've worked very hard in creating this project to align ourselves with some of the best that remain in the sewing industry here in Seattle. This in turn will hopefully help limit our risks. It is also our second project and we feel we have learned a tremendous amount about manufacturing from our first Kickstarter.
We uphold high standards and entrust our manufacturer to producing a high quality product. They have been sewing since 1996. We will only ship out products that at 100% ready, but no earlier. That date is July 2016.
However, sometimes reality becomes a factor. If something unforeseen happens with our supply chain, we'll be transparent and keep you posted about your order status.
It’s Worth Mentioning Again - We met the deadline for bags on our first Kickstarter project.* There’s no guarantee we can repeat that – we’re still doing seriously ambitious things as a very young company – but as you’ll see below, we’ve got all the right ingredients.
Complexity of Order Fulfillment - We've made the reward tiers streamlined like last time, meaning there are fewer moving parts that could affect timelines.
Product Adjustments - Just like last time, as we continue to test and trial the the final production model of Bar Back, we may need to make some small adjustments to improve the product. These will always be for the benefit of you, the user - and we'll let you know any time we improve something.
Customs - We have experience shipping to over 20 different counties in the past year. We'll work hard to avoid your rewards getting held up at customs, but in the end we can't guarantee you won't experience delays or be charged import duties.
If you'd like to get involved, any amount helps - head back up to the top of the page, and look for the big green "Back This Project" button on the right-hand side.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
