What is "Words" about?
"Words" is a feature length Documentary about gender in the ever evolving landscape of NYC.
"I know nothing in the world that has as much power as a word."- Emily Dickinson
How does language and rhetoric affect the opinions and conversations we have about identity? In what way does communication serve as a form of self-expression, and self-expression a form of communication?
Words will be an exploration of how people navigate identity in the open and evolving landscape of New York City. Using some of NYC's most fluid scenes as a backdrop, Words will investigate the dissonance between self-constructed identity and identities that are projected onto us by society, and how they are contextualized in a range of environments, from the art world to early childhood education. Featuring exclusive interviews from a variety of artists, activists, icons, and innovators, Words promises to be a poignant and powerful tribute to the language we use to shape the many facets of our identities: as men, women, artists, New Yorkers, people.

Risks and challenges
Film making is a difficult and expensive task, regardless of budget or resources. In general, most films do not see a profit until well past the film's release. Although we have many wonderful and generous people donating their time and energy to the project, there are certain costs that are unavoidable. We will be shooting a total of fifteen days in April, and each of those days require crew, equipment, food, and transport. And that's just during the actual shoot... there is still pre and post production to take into consideration! Still, we feel passionately about this project, and believe that our documentary will ultimately pay for itself when it goes on to inspire conversation about the importance of language in our identities.
Every bit helps! Please consider being a part of the conversation!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
