Drakonheim: City of Bones was released earlier this year after a successful Kickstarter campaign. The system-free setting book features an ancient city where necromancers operate openly.
Now we're providing some rules content for the setting with the Drakonheim Savage Companion and the Heroes of Drakonheim adventure for the Savage Worlds RPG.
The Savage Companion features all the rules you need to play in Drakonheim using the Savage Worlds system, including:
- 9 archetypes
- 2 new races (goblin and hobgoblin)
- 6 new Hindrances
- 22 new Edges
- 5 pieces of gear
- 5 deities
- 3 new power trappings
- Expanded rules for necromancers and undead
- Full stats for all 29 of the major NPCs described in the setting book
- Several NPC archetypes and monsters
- An adventure generator
Because the companion is designed to work with the Drakonheim: City of Bones setting book, the companion does not contain setting information on its own. While written with Drakonheim in mind, all the material can be used in a range of fantasy settings.
Heroes of Drakonhiem
This three-chapter adventure introduces the players to the city of Drakonheim, as the heroes live through events that shape the city. The heroes trudge into goblin-infested sewers to solve a series of disappearances, confront the rise of the necromancers from the Gray Society, and finally defend the city from a hobgoblin invasion.
Originally written by Matthew J. Hanson as a trilogy of D&D 5e playtest adventures, Heroes of Drakonheim has been updated by Richard Woolcock to fit the fast, fun, and furious philosophy of Savage Worlds.
Drakonheim: City of Bones
Drakonheim:City of Bones has already been published after an earlier successful Kickstarter campaign. It is a system-free setting that details the important people, places, and plots in, under, and around the city. It gives history and flavor to the necromancers who rule the city, the holy order that clandestinely opposes them, the goblins who live beneath the city, and the monster-infested lands around it.
Because Drakonheim: City of Bones already had its own Kickstarter campaign, it will not be affected by this one. However, for those who don't already own a copy, it is available as part of some pledge levels or as an add-on.
If you want a sneak peek at Savage Drakonheim, you can check out some of the free previews we've released through RPGNow or DriveThruRPG. While you are at, it you can visit author Richard Woolcock's blog where he talks about the creative process.
Necromancy: Necromancers operate openly in Drakonheim. This preview contains just a few of the many undead-focused Edges, Hindrances, and setting rules in the Drakonheim Savage Companion.
Sewer Goblins: Goblins inhabit the ancient sewers below Drakonheim. In this preview we show off the new goblin race and its racial Edges in the companion, as well as a pair of encounters from the Heroes of Drakonheim adventure that feature goblin friends and foes.
Prepare for War: In the final chapter of the Heroes of Drakonheim adventure, the heroes race against time to prepare the city to defend against invasion. This preview describes the new system for managing the heroes' limited time and shows a few options of how they might prepare the city.
To learn even more about the setting, you can also check out the previews created for the original Drakonheim: City of Bones Kickstarter campaign.
The Gray Society: A cabal of necromancers who have recently come out of the shadows and now operate openly in the city.
Knights of the Eclipse: A clandestine order dedicated to destroying undead.
Little Grendus: The dwarven section of the city, it is home to the ancestors of the now ruined kingdom of Grendus.
Hobgoblin Lands: Territory to the north of Drakonheim controlled by hobgoblin war clans.
The text of the companion and adventure are completely written, and every backer can look at the first update to read the full books. The companion has even been given and initial layout that will be released to backers as soon as the campaign ends.
We say initial layout, because the book reuses several pieces of art from the Drakonheim: City of Bones setting book. This Kickstarter campaign is to help provide more original art for both the Drakonheim Savage Companion and Heroes of Drakonheim adventure.
The initial goal of $1000 will not provide for all our art needs, but it will give us enough to create a good number of original pieces, which we'll supplement with art from Drakonheim: City of Bones and published stock art, and we'll feel confident producing two beautiful books.
Because we're focusing on funding the art, the more we raise beyond our goal, the more original art we'll include. In reality, whatever we raise beyond paying for printing, shipping, and fees, we'll put towards art. Because it's fun to smash through stretch goals, however, we've named some milestones.
$2,000 - Some More New Art! - We'll include some more new art in both books!
$3,000 - Mostly New Art! We'll include mostly new art in both books!
$4,000 - A Whole Lot of New Art! How much art will we get at this level? A whole lot!
$5,000 - All the new art! Both books will have completely new art!
You can add the following options on to any reward level by increasing your pledge by the appropriate amount. After the Kickstarter Campaign is over, we'll send you a survey that will ask you to describe what extras you want.
$5: Drakonheim: City of Bones PDF - A PDF copy of the Drakonheim system-less setting book (available as soon as the campaign ends)
$5: Drakonheim Poster Maps - Two 18 x 12 poster maps, one featuring the city of Drakonheim, and one the surrounding territory.
$15: Extra Print Copies (standard color): An extra standard color copy of any one of the print books: Drakonheim City of Bones, Drakonheim Savage Companion, or Heroes of Drakonheim.

Risks and challenges
Please be aware that the delivery dates are just our best estimates, and no matter how much we try to build in extra time for things to go wrong we've often misjudge.
The text is written and edited, and you can see it as soon as you back. There are still many other factors that might slow down the final delivery date, including art, layout, printing, and shipping.
