Thank you for your interest in my Kickstarter campaign. It means a lot to me that you are thinking of supporting this project. The decision to launch this fundraising campaign was not made lightly. It is very humbling to admit to needing help, but there are significant economic considerations between a musician and a finished recording. I can’t wait to get this music out of my head so that I can share it with you.
“Cosmic Yonder” is the title of the record I’m making. The theme of this album is the cyclical nature of the Cosmos, and how we, as a small part of this infinitely larger organization, are physically and emotionally bound by the same laws which dictate the behavior of everything from the galaxy to the quark. There is something entirely predictable about the unpredictability of human emotion. Just when we are soaring at our highest heights, something knocks us down. Just when we hit rock bottom, something picks us back up. This collection of songs explores the human condition; from the vast distance between you and the person you’re standing beside, to the intimate closeness between you and someone a world away.
In late August I will be recording this album at Elevation Studios in Cleveland with Jacob Fader at the console. I've composed music for strings, and will be employing a wonderful trio led by the talented Tara Hanish Klein. There's Joe Hunter, one of the greatest pianists I've heard, Gary Naherny, a great drummer and friend, the legendary Ray DeForest on bass, and what would a record with "yonder" in the title be without the twang of a Banjo? Dave Pethtel has the five-string under control.
I am set to record this project, pay these talented folks, and make the best music that I can. While the total cost of this project will reach around $5000, my goal of raising $2500 is aimed at mastering (a process designed to make “Cosmic Yonder” sound great when it finally gets to the listener), and duplication, the physical production process associated with getting a good looking CD into your hands.
For your contribution, you will get something in return. Check out the rewards available at each pledge level. Contributors will be named in the CD package, and there are other physical rewards, from the CD itself when it’s done, to an in-home guitar lesson, or a songwriting workshop for a group of your musical friends, to a private house concert sometime after the project’s release. If you're beyond the Cleveland area and an in-home concert proves unfeasible, we can make arrangements to create a reward that works for you! Either way, I look forward to thanking you for your support.
Kickstarter is reliable. I have personally pledged to three projects thus far. Each project made its goal, and the music created by my friends has been fantastic. The pride of having helped in a small way is real. This is a goal based fund drive. If we come up short, no one is charged, and it’s back to square one. If you pledge right now, your credit card won’t be charged until the deadline, and only if the goal is met. Again, it is extremely humbling to ask for financial help. But I am doing so with confidence, and the greatest appreciation for your ongoing encouragement and support of my mission to create great music, and launch it into the Cosmic Yonder.
